I feel bad giving this practice one star because Dr. Nunez is such a nice man, but he's not someone I can in good conscience recommend. My first several visits and procedure went smoothly, but then my condition began flaring up. I saw him on three separate occasions for this particular flare, including the office visit, the colonoscopy and the follow up visit. At each turn he asked if I was depressed because according to him, my body looked normal. When I received the pathologist's report in the mail saying I had Chron's Disease, I was shocked because Dr. Nunez never mentioned that after my colonoscopy (I've been diagnosed with colitis for years). So I spent several weeks thinking I had Chron's Disease. When I had the opportunity to ask him about it at the follow up visit several weeks later, it was clear he'd never read the report he signed off on because he said, "No, you don't have Chron's. Why didn't you call me about this?!" How am I supposed to know you don't read what you sign???! When I said I still don't feel well and he asked if I was depressed for the third time, I was done. I think he was more interested in pedaling some vitamin line and a GI medication (Lialda) he probably gets kick backs from than to accurately address my symptoms. I eventually found another GI in the Med Center who saw and treated me for my flare up, and I've never looked back. The care and attention to detail my new doctor and his staff offer is unparalleled. At my first visit he spent 40 minutes with me in the exam room going over my history. He changed my medication (to Apriso) and my diet (no cruciferous veggies, limited dairy and bland fruits like apples and banana). I immediately started feeling better. It's ironic that at one point Dr. Nunez told me what you eat doesn't have much of an impact on your health. That comment alone should've caused me to search out another specialist. Unfortunately, getting my medical history to this new physician was no easy feat thanks to Dr. Nunez's staff. They should be embarrassed by their behavior. Here's a tip for he and his office staff: if you're not going to give the time and attention to your patients they deserve, don't be surprised they go elsewhere. It's also unfortunate I know two other people with GI issues who received similarly poor treatment at Dr. Nunez's hands, one of which wound up in the hospital and nearly bled to death. My main purpose in writing all this is that, if you're experiencing GI issues, please don't ever think it's all in your head. There are amazing doctors out there who can help you through this. This doctor is just not one of them. read more

I recently took my mother in for a GI scope due to some issues she was having. The scope was done by Dr. Nunez as my mother has been a patient of his for years. She was having some persistent stomach issues which had worsened dramatically in the last month and a half. First off, his office staff is terrible if you are trying to set an appointment to see him in the office. My mother called and asked for an appointment. She told the person she spoke to she was having terrible nausea and difficulty keeping any food down. My mother is 88 years old. The person in appointments told her they would call her back to set an appointment. No one called. Three days later my mother called AGAIN. This time she wouldn't let them 'call her back' and insisted they make an appointment. So they gave her a day the following week but told her they'd call her about a time. Guess what? No call was ever made so the day of the appointment, she got up got dressed and called them to see what time she should be there. They didn't have her on the schedule but told her to come in at a certain time. He scheduled the scope after the appointment. We arrived at 5:55 am to the assigned hospital entrance at Kingwood Hospital. There were about 15 people waiting as the doors open at 6 am...or 6:15 was more accurate. Mom got checked in and got in her 'room' with her IV in around 8 am. She didn't get wheeled in for the procedure till around 9:30. After the procedure (which took about 20 minutes), they wheeled her back to the room and we waited to see the doctor to find out about results. Dr. George Nunez came in, obviously in a rush and began rattling off what they had found very quickly. Mom cannot hear well...even with hearing aids and she didn't have those in due to the procedure. I began asking questions. He pretty much told her she has an ulcer...stay away from Ibuprofen and aspirin. Keep taking your other medicine. He was about to rush out but I had more questions. Mom has been really sick lately and has lost 32 lbs in a month! I'm concerned. So I'm trying to ask him questions and he INTERRUPTS me and tells me I "need to ask my questions more quickly because he needs to get on to the next patient." I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped. REALLY? So, he's the doctor and he doesn't have time to answer patient questions? I did not cause a scene (amazingly) I did however insist he answer my questions, which he did but he did so in the most condescending-you-are-wasting-my-time tone I've ever heard from a doctor. He left. And I guess the nurse could SEE I was really pissed off. She came up and asked if she could help with anything and I told her what he'd said. She was shocked! I am 83 years old and to date I have never experienced as I did on my first appointment with Dr. Nunez. Details of my experience are in the letter I wrote to him: Jose A. I am sorry that I allowed the situation around me to influence my behavior, which ultimately contributed to you expelling me from your office. I did not walk into your office that day agitated or upset. Your office manager's lack of civility and aggressive nature put me on the defensive, and you witnessed the culminating result of those behaviors. I am disappointed about how I reacted to your manager's disrespect and tactlessness. By nature, I am a gregarious and pleasant man. For over 40 years, I have been an active church member, lay minister, couple's counselor, and loving parent. I am quick to joke and happy to engage in friendly conversation with people I do not know. Very seldom do I become upset or lose my cool. I also am someone who grew up in south Texas, during an era when Latinos were expected to be submissive, non-confrontational, and fearful of authority. And had I stayed there, I would be a very different man. But I lived in the Southeast during the Civil Rights movement and saw the results of hate and injustice. And I was a career officer in the military during Vietnam, so I know what aggression looks like. But I am not afraid of it, and I will stand my ground when confronted by it. It has been a very long time since I felt the need to assert myself and match aggression with aggression, but your manager caused exactly that response. Even more disappointing was your immediate and abrupt reaction to the situation, especially considering all the negative online reviews about your staff. You did not seek to understand the situation or see it as confirmation of all those bad reviews. You came highly recommended. And after our first consultation, my wife and I looked forward to establishing a long-term doctor/patient relationship with you. Unfortunately, the episode on October 19 will force us to look for another doctor. And if people ask, I will have to concur with all those negative online reviews and comment about my experience with your reaction. Our last meeting was unfortunate and uncomfortable, but I hope it compels you to reevaluate online reviews and reexamine the conduct of certain members of your staff. I would like to start out by saying that medically everything went well. Dr. Nunez is a very capable Doctor and I have nothing but admiration and respect for him and am very satisfied with the way my procedure went from a medical perspective. I had an elective surgical procedure performed and Dr. Nunez was the treating physician. I take exception to the utter lack of communication on the part of his office staff and the staff at where the procedure was done. It turns out I was going to need an anesthesiologist for this procedure. I was under the impression that since Dr. Nunez was considered in network and the facility where the procedure was being conducted was in network there would be no issue. Imagine my surprise when I was wheeled into the operating room on a gurney and met my anesthesiologist for the first time after I had already been prepped for surgery and taken the day off from work. Turns out my anesthesiologist was considered out of network by my insurance company. I received a bill from the anesthesiologist for over $860.00 for the balance that my insurance company did not pay (because the anesthesiologist was out of network). Someone at Dr. Nunez's office I presume contacted my insurance company prior to the procedure to determine what benefits they would pay for the procedure that was conducted. They should also have the ability to determine what insurance the anesthesiologist accepts. Unfortunately, his office staff was either unable or unwilling to connect the dots and I received a bill for $860.00 since the anesthesiologist was out of network. If I would have known this prior to the procedure, I would have appreciated the opportunity to contact an in network anesthesiologist to perform this procedure. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Nunez for the better part of 19 or 20 years, he has always taken time to talk to me, his staff has always been friendly and helpful. At one point he was unhappy with the lack of communications from different medical facilities after procedures and sending tissue sample out for tests so he and some other GI doctors opened their own facility for better patient relations, I have been to this facility several times and the treatment was first class, and information he needs to have is communicated to him more expediently. His staff has always been friendly and helpful, they have gone out of their way to be helpful in making sure my needs and cate were taken care of. Dr Nunez is a first rate GI doctor and I trust him vehemently to make sure I am taken care of. He is hard to get an immediate appointment with because he had such a following of his patients but if you can wait for the appointment this is a doctor worth waiting for!!!! read more

I hate to give Dr. Nunez a 1 Star but I just had the worst experience with one of his employees. Sonia is said to be the "manager" for the clinic but has the worst attitude and is not willing to help patients. I've called Dr. Nunez office multiple times. There was a point my pain got so bad that they were able to accommodate my appointment to an earlier day without any problem. They were super nice. Dr. Nunez diagnosed me with something that causes me to have sever pain. Due to the pain I have to miss work. I called the office today to get some paperwork filled out so I can get an intermittent leave and no get in trouble at work for missing out. Sonia answers the phone and starts being nosy wanting to know what the leave was for. After I explained she said I needed to go to the office, which I have no problem but she is giving me an appointment for a month and a half later. The documents for my leave need to be submitted within 15 days or it gets declined. She did not care. I asked her if Dr. Nunez had diagnosed me with something why did she need me to go and get seen by him again like it I was lying. She started catching attitude and started being a smart mouth. I feel like my hands are tied and my claim will be denied due to her lack of empathy and no help. I asked to speak to someone above her and she said I have the manager no one is above me but with such an attitude. Now I feel like I have to waste my time again seeking another doctor to get diagnosed for the same thing to be able to get my paperwork done. Sonia should NOT be working there. Dr. Nunez told me if things get worse to make another appointment with him. So I asked her if I were to get worse pains if I could schedule and appointment she said I would still have to wait over a month to be see but I can go to a walk in clinic, why would the doctor offer a follow up appointment but his so called manager send me to a walk in clinic. read more
