Because of those deep roots, it has been incredibly disappointing to see its recent decline now that I am trying to bring my own children here. Over the past couple of years, the environment has changed significantly and it just doesn't feel like the safe, clean space it once was. The restroom facilities are no longer accessible or available, and the playground equipment is not being adequately maintained. Additionally, there is now an unhoused community located right next to the park grounds. I want to be entirely clear that I have no ill will toward anyone, and I deeply understand that everyone needs a safe place to stay. However, having an encampment directly adjacent to a dedicated space for young children raises valid safety concerns for us parents. Unexpected things can happen, and it makes it difficult to feel completely secure when bringing our little ones to play. It is truly sad to see because this park holds so many beautiful memories for my family. I sincerely hope local management can address these maintenance and safety concerns so it can be restored to the clean, thriving community space it used to be.

Adj: Still Substantial and Satisfactorily Safe…read more Shasta Community Park is a storybook themed park off Bruceville across from Cosumnes River College close to Cosumnes River Blvd. It's been around for a good 15+ years now and we've not come here for quite a few years, even though we drive past somewhat often. It's right next to the Valley Hi-North Laguna Library so it's a good place for kids to burn off the energy and go get some educational fun and check out some books and have some fun park experiences on the same trip. There's bathrooms here and if they aren't opened, the library when it is opened has bathrooms too. Now that my littles aren't so little anymore, they aren't too keen on parks, but they still like libraries, so they went to the library and I decided to stop by the park and take a quick stroll. Things still look pretty good overall here, the play structures are older, but still in ok shape, the grounds look clean and maintained, and the trees have really grown in now so there are plenty of shade for hot sunny days later this year in the summer. They also have water features, namely a spray park area so kids could cool off and get soaking wet in the summer. The sprays usually operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There's plenty of seating under 2 huge gazebo for gatherings, picnics or just hanging out, plus there are a couple of bbq grills too so you can easily have BBQs here. In addition to all that, in this 20+ acres park, there's a skate park, a basketball court, and soccer fields, so there's plenty of exercise and fun opportunities to be had here. Safety wise, I would say that past the afternoon it's probably best not to hang out here as it could be a little unsafe here, so when the library closes at 6p, I'd suggest not staying around. Otherwise, it's a safe park and well kept, except for the tall grass and weeds in the parking lot shared with the library that were totally overgrown, minus one start for that, maybe the park and rec district folks haven't gotten the manpower to keep it cut down. Overall, this is still a pretty good park, and although it's getting older, it's still maintained quite well.

My grandsons had fun with their scooters but it would be awesome for skateboarders. There is a water feature that is typically working from Memorial Day weekend (or beginning of June) to about Labor day (although it stays hot in our area well until October!) unfortunately the water feature is outdated and / or breaks down often. Last year, the water feature was down a lot in May/ June and again in August / September. 5/5 rating for the park for grass, shade, trees, (mostly up-kept and safe) play structure, restrooms (bring your own soap, and the toilets clog very easily). 2/5 rating for the water feature: It is being out dated, and the schedule of it being open is unreliable.

Adj: Small but Sufficient…read more This is a nice little residential park just south of the Costco on Elk Grove Blvd. It's pretty small, but it's never crowded and that maybe the best thing about this neighborhood park. For a quick trip for kids to let off steam or for a short exercise routine, this park fits the bill. Recently, it was fenced off for some updates. Turns out CSD resurfaced the 2 little playgrounds' rubber flooring. I have mixed feelings about the synthetic material used for kids play areas, but they are more cushiony than places with bark or sand playgrounds. Overall, this is a well maintained and comfortable park to take a walk, run laps, walk the dogs or bring the kids to. A little place with a lot to offer. Check it out!

This park isn't as fancy as the others in EG but then it's also usually empty or not busy which is nice. Lots of open space, manicured fields for a soccer or vball games. It's all good. It's very close to the EG Costco too so it's also a nice place to bring some deli ready to eat meals and salads and sandwiches here from Costco for an in impromptu picnic when the weather is nice like it's been lately. All in all, a small but well kept park that's not so popular for some peace and quiet and for kids to let out their energy, quite safe too since it's not big so it's easier to keep an eye on the younguns. One star knocked off for the playstructures being close to the street (the round about) as you can see from one of my pics, one of the structures is right by the street close to the stop sign. I think it would've been better if they play areas are more toward the center if the circular park, just pave some paths so people can walk towards the middle, that would be better for safety for adults and kids alike.

We even came on a windy day, and it was still a wonderful place to be. It is so spacious that it's the perfect spot to fly kites. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10

Came here on a weekend afternoon and this time, we hit the pickleball courts. I've not even been to…read morethis part of the park, could've fooled me, all this time I thought these were tennis courts, haha. Just goes to show how much I know. My kids started playing pickleball, and came to a clinic taught be a coach. It was good times. The courts are nice, they are heavily used according to the wife, as tons of people from all around town come here to play quite competitively in the mornings. Recreational players who are so good, they look like pros to us. Anyways, lots of retired folks and others who come to play because this is a great sport for all. Well, the kids look like they have enjoyed it so far, it looks to be fun. There's 6 courts here and very spacious. Nets look in good condition, courts look good too, the pavement looks a little worn here and there, but I also could tell it's all kept up pretty well. The fence here is good too, so it's pretty secluded, there's some seating w/a couple of tables w/a shaded patio cover right by the courts for resting if not playing. I took a few pictures of the BBQ area so I'd remember how much room there is for future parties, plenty of picnic tables and the water feature/spray park area is nice too. That part won't start till after Memorial Day, according to the wife. It was windy the day we came for pickleball, but I ended up playing a few games too after the clinic ended, and wife and I both had a good workout and it was fun. There are pickle ball and tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds for kids, walking trails, and exercise equipment (great pull-up bars). The size of the park is huge so I can't see this park feeling too crowded even if there are a lot of people here. Plenty of curbside neighborhood parking. Everything appeared to be well maintained, clean, and new. Quiet too.
