I have a long history with this park, having grown up visiting it with my family as a child, so it holds a very special place in my heart. I even hosted my first baby gender reveal here back in 2022! Because of those deep roots, it has been incredibly disappointing to see its recent decline now that I am trying to bring my own children here. Over the past couple of years, the environment has changed significantly and it just doesn't feel like the safe, clean space it once was. The restroom facilities are no longer accessible or available, and the playground equipment is not being adequately maintained. Additionally, there is now an unhoused community located right next to the park grounds. I want to be entirely clear that I have no ill will toward anyone, and I deeply understand that everyone needs a safe place to stay. However, having an encampment directly adjacent to a dedicated space for young children raises valid safety concerns for us parents. Unexpected things can happen, and it makes it difficult to feel completely secure when bringing our little ones to play. It is truly sad to see because this park holds so many beautiful memories for my family. I sincerely hope local management can address these maintenance and safety concerns so it can be restored to the clean, thriving community space it used to be. read more

Adj: Still Substantial and Satisfactorily Safe Shasta Community Park is a storybook themed park off Bruceville across from Cosumnes River College close to Cosumnes River Blvd. It's been around for a good 15+ years now and we've not come here for quite a few years, even though we drive past somewhat often. It's right next to the Valley Hi-North Laguna Library so it's a good place for kids to burn off the energy and go get some educational fun and check out some books and have some fun park experiences on the same trip. There's bathrooms here and if they aren't opened, the library when it is opened has bathrooms too. Now that my littles aren't so little anymore, they aren't too keen on parks, but they still like libraries, so they went to the library and I decided to stop by the park and take a quick stroll. Things still look pretty good overall here, the play structures are older, but still in ok shape, the grounds look clean and maintained, and the trees have really grown in now so there are plenty of shade for hot sunny days later this year in the summer. They also have water features, namely a spray park area so kids could cool off and get soaking wet in the summer. The sprays usually operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There's plenty of seating under 2 huge gazebo for gatherings, picnics or just hanging out, plus there are a couple of bbq grills too so you can easily have BBQs here. In addition to all that, in this 20+ acres park, there's a skate park, a basketball court, and soccer fields, so there's plenty of exercise and fun opportunities to be had here. Safety wise, I would say that past the afternoon it's probably best not to hang out here as it could be a little unsafe here, so when the library closes at 6p, I'd suggest not staying around. Otherwise, it's a safe park and well kept, except for the tall grass and weeds in the parking lot shared with the library that were totally overgrown, minus one start for that, maybe the park and rec district folks haven't gotten the manpower to keep it cut down. Overall, this is still a pretty good park, and although it's getting older, it's still maintained quite well. read more

Ahoy Matey! Over the weekend we checked out one of the coolest parks we've been to in Sacramento, located right next to Sacramento Public Library: Valley Hi-North Laguna! This amazing park features a Treasure Island and Swiss Family Robinson themed playground, our toddler had a blast going through all the make-believe areas! They even have a water mister area and several sculptures! This includes a Peter Rabbit outdoor reading area, tiger our toddler was obsessed with, a big whale, treasure chest and giant open story books! We brought dinner and ate at one of their many picnic tables! ~More Info~ They opened in 2009! Both themed playgrounds have fabric shades and rubber flooring so it's more comfortable for playing! Many sporting areas as well! Popular too, lots of birthday parties were going on, restrooms could be more maintained tho, no tp in both women and men's. 4/5 stars! I have been here mainly for Valley-High Library until recently I join the Pokémon community group and realized that this park is great for family. It's not overcrowd but always busy. Beside the library and playgrounds for the kids, there are basketball courts, skate board ramps and tennis courts (however missed the nets for long time and no replacements). read more

We were in the area and my son wanted to go to a park. We found this place and decided to stop by. They have two large playgrounds and they are covered by a shade one has a giant ship that my son really enjoyed. There's a big open field that has no shade. There's a second part that you can rent out with a lot of tables that are covered with a roof. Not sure if there's bathrooms here. Overall we had a good experience. read more

Shasta Park is a great outdoor activity for the kids and families. It's right by the North Laguna Valley Hi Library across from CRC. There are two play areas for kids. Two gazebo areas for gatherings that can be reserved through the city of Sacramento. They do have bathrooms which is a plus. It has a water play area, basketball court, softball field, and so much more. I love the shade and seating available. It's a beautiful park. read more

Neighborhood mid-sized park next to a Sacramento branch library. Common amenities include athletic fields, covered gazebos, kids play area and concrete surfaced trails. Some mature shade trees. I generally come here in the coolness of early morning for some exercise. Occasionally, I encounter the aggressive dog leashed to the less intelligent owner/parent. I give that a wide space, but I carry a weapon prepared for the worst encounter. Nobody should have to face being bit or mauled by an untrained dog with an entitled idiot human. We love going to Shasta Community park for family walks AND to meet up with fellow Pokemon Go players. It's always nice during big game events to go to the park and find a little community to belong to. The little water fountains seem like a great way to cool off little ones during summer too so we will definitely be returning often. read more

It's a relatively big park. There are some open fields for playing soccer or other games. There is a walking path that goes around the park. There is an aesthetic part of the park at the corner. It has an isle of palm trees leading up to a pretty flower set up. It looks like a place to hold a small wedding. The playground has a ship theme. There are exercise structures around the park. There is a seating area in the shade for parties to eat and gather. It's right by the library. The parking lot has enough parking. read more

Best park for Pokémon go! Many gyms within short walking distance of you need to do spontaneous raid within an hour window. There is a crew there every time we went there! They also have a library and water play thing for kids. Excellent location for both adults and families! read more

This park is okay. As mentioned there are two different areas for kids to play. One section is for toddlers, and the other is geared more towards older kids. The set up is great, as it is right next to the local library. There are many downsides to this park as well. The play structure areas are very run down, and in serious need of repairs. There are also many people who have parties here, and leave the place trashed afterwards. Some are good about disposing of garbage, but they are few and far between. There are also a lot of unsupervised kids running around, and I've seen many arguments break out as a result. Bottom line is if you bring your kids here WATCH them, and if your having a party CLEAN up afterwards. If people did these simple things the park would be a much more enjoyable place for everyone. When i first moved in this area this was my to go to park... its not too big not to small and it has a skate park what more can you ask for? This area also has basketball hoops and a tennis area... awesome right? I can see myself bringing my babies here.. looking forward to some future family playtime highly recommended read more

This park is as good as it gets!!! Its like a mini water park but FREE with so much more to offer! Shasta Park has a couple playgrounds, baseball field, tennis/basketball courts, water mist stations, skate boarding area and a huge field to play whatever your heart desires! They have 2 huge playgrounds... one geared for the toddlers and the other for the bigger kids. Each with its appropriate age swings. I don't mind chasing my nephews around this park because my shoes are not being planted on dirt, sand or bark.. its like I'm stepping on what feels like rubber and soft sand paper (if that makes any sense). In the middle of these playgrounds is where you will find the awesome water mist area for kids and adults to run around and play in. Its so refreshing to have that cool mist greet your face on a hot sunny day. I will admit to running through these fully clothed because I was so desperate to cool off.. and it did just that. It cooled me off. =) Just found out from their website that the gazebo that is off to the far corner is meant for weddings! So this park really does have it all! I can't wait for the trees to grow.. this park needs more shade... The only shade you'll find is under the main gazebos by the playground and those are usually reserved on the weekends. read more

I actually really like this park! I think the area could cause some hesitation for parents, but the actual park itself is quite nice. Located off of Bruceville, it has two parking lots--one that is farther away from the actual park and another lot that is shared with the library on site. I came here on a whim because of Pokemon Go, but got the opportunity to actually walk around and look at the playground, the skate park, and the wide open field that allows kids to run around. I found the actual playground site to be very nice. It feels fairly new, but my information on this is minimal. The actual infrastructure is still nicely kept and the different swing sets, interactiveness and small water area are all colorful and engaging. The downside to how nice this park is unfortunately is that the parking lots are quite small for such a lovely park. This is definitely a place I imagine gets very busy during the summer time when the sun is shining and the kids want to go outside and play. During winter it's nowhere near as packed, which makes it convenient for me, but I can see this becoming a very easy annoyance. If you have kids this is certainly a place to visit. The EG/Sacramento area has quite a few parks, but even though it's size is small I found the play area to be much more engaging and interactive for the little ones. EG Park is huge and has a great area for kids to run around, but there's no play structure like the Shasta Park. Give it a visit! Your kids or you may fall in love with it! read more

Great location. Lots of parking. Nice playground and spray ground for the kids. I like to take the kids here after a trip to the library which is also in the same lot. I threw a birthday party for my son here a week ago. All my guests enjoyed themselves. Yes, even the adults. They even said the bathrooms were pretty clean and not smelly. This place has everything. They have tennis, basketball courts, a small skate park, a small workout area, water jets, and jungles gyms for kids of any sizes. Big, little, and medium. If you like to have a birthday party here you can call parks and recreations and reserve a special area just for that occasion. The kids that run around here aren't really too rowdy like the other parks south of the area and the park feels pretty safe. The park is huge so no one is ever invading anyone's personal space. When I go, I like to play a couple round of tennis with my girlfriend then hop on a game or two of basketball with her brother. That is all I really do here but there is always something for everyone to do. read more

Good park for summer picnic, you can go to a bout a block and get a bucket of fried chickens and some side and you are good to go for picnic or you can just bring some hot dog or hamburger or BBQ it in the park. They have a water sprinkle on in the park during a hot day to cool off. Bring your skate board with you in the park too for some skate or you can do people watching :) read more

Shasta Park is located next to the Valley High-North Laguna Public Library, and across the street from Cosumnes River College. Behind the library you'll find a very nice children's play area with a nautical theme, that includes a sea ship play structure. There is a large lighted soccer field, and a free skateboard area. The skateboard area has a series of metal ramps and some spectator seating. There are also a couple of basketball courts and a couple of rarely used tennis courts. There is a single unlighted youth baseball diamond. The permit if use this baseball field is held by the Athletic Youth Sports Association, so it is generally not available during the spring and fall. There is a public restroom with a single men and women's bathroom, both with locking doors. Why the deduction of two stars? Both the skateboard area and the basketball courts looks like it might be "locals only." I also observed teens openly smoking pot in the evening. Seems safer during the day. read more

This park has two play structures, water spout area, large party rental area with a grill, bathrooms, and a large field. It shares the parking lot with the Valley Hi North Library. This park is clean, the play structures are well maintained, and the grass is cut regularly. I love the spongy non-slip ground around the play structure, which reduces slips and falls of the little ones buzzing by. My only gripe would be the party rental/picnic area can be dirty with trash or leftover party decorations. So I try to move away from that area. Overall, a great place for a playdate and let the kids have fun. read more

Love that this park has two kids playgrounds; one for younger and older kids. There's plenty of shaded areas. My favorite part is the library! We often go to the library first pick out books and end with playtime at the park. I haven't experienced the splash ground yet, but I'm excited about it!! read more

Great park to go to the library first and then let your children whether they be big or small play on either playground. They can accommodate A LOT of kids. And in the summertime the Misters come on. Thats my daughter's favorite. read more

This is a very nice park, until later in the day you start getting all kinds of kids running through and taking food and drinks from your party, some without even asking. then the most annoying is when we had to leave our function early due to the disrespectful partiers next door smoking marijuana, this was really bad, they had so many kids and no control of them. There should be some kind of police surveillance a few times a day to enforce the rules at the park. I will never have a party there again!!!! read more
