I'd never been to this shop before but it's the closest one to me so I thought I'd give it a try. The film advance arm on my old Yashica broke loose so I was hoping they'd be able to easily fix it or give me some good advice on what to do. When I went to the shop there were 3 people working & when one of them was free I approached him & started to describe my issue. He basically cut me off without even looking at the camera & barely looking at me he said "repairs start at $150". This caught me off guard & the camera itself likely isn't even worth that much, so I sucked my teeth & promptly walked out of the shop never to return. Fast forward to about a week later, after maybe 15 mins of internet research & $20 on eBay, I had an idea of what the problem might be & a new part on the way. Once it arrived I was able to easily install it myself & the camera was good as new again. This is likely what I should have done to begin with & not even bothered with the shop, but the dismissive way I was treated as a potential customer & the immediate willingness they showed to price gouge me was super disappointing. They could have even charged me double what the part cost & made $20 for 3 mins of labor & I in my amateur ignorance likely would have went along with it but they chose to reveal themselves instead. When I used to live in North Park, there was only one camera shop I would frequent when I needed gear, equipment, advice, etc. It was George's Camera! Probably over 10 years later nothing has changed. What they offer, their care for the customer, and services they provide remain top-notch. I will regularly visit George's once again for my future camera needs! I have to admit I'm no camera expert. I work off an excellent Canon M50 mainly for my YouTube channel. It's been a little frustrating for me as adjusting settings has been difficult in reference to the graininess of my videos at times. I recently learned more about lenses and planned to buy a couple of new ones. Since George's has two stores, I had to wait a couple of days to get the one I wanted but that was all right. It's a great courtesy that the George's Camera stores go out of their way to ensure the best service to the customer's needs. On this visit, I purchased a new lens along with a ND filter. Planning to do more outdoor videos brought a need for a wide angle lens and from all my research, the Canon 11-22mm is one of the best for outdoor shooting and vlogging. Yes, that will be a new game for me, but I'm committed to seeing it through! Now, on the COVID front, George's Camera is one of the most careful shops I've seen in their approach to letting customers in the store. There are standard notices on the entry door on COVID requirements. But when you enter, you have to wait at a counter and get permission to go in the shop. I was asked both times why I was visiting George's. I had good reason, but I'm afraid of how they may have responded if I said, "I just want to look around!" Well I was there for a purpose both times, so there was no need to test the waters with that one! Now, when you go in, they have a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table and do use it before you cross the threshold into the shop. I like the caution they take for their customers. And certainly, wear your mask! There are other places you can get camera gear like Best Buy, Amazon, etc., but the employees at George's are true experts. They all know camera, gear, and accessories inside-out. Some shops at other places may offer deals, but most of the time, camera equipment is priced by the manufacturer, not the store. I would encourage my readers to visit George's Camera to see what they offer among new products and rentals. It's great to see this shop is still how I remember it and I'll get my gear and accessories here as much as possible to support this great business! Thanks George's! I have been to George's a number of times and it is truly the best place. The staff is really nice and very helpful. You can get film developed, passport pictures, lots of choices for cameras and accessories. I just bought a Canon T7 there and am so happy with it. They also give you a free class when you purchase a camera. There is parking in the parking garage on the other side of the street and they will pay for your first hour of parking. My wife and I just visited this store with our 3 month year old baby. We were eager to travel with him in the near future, and needed to find a place to take his passport picture. We did a quick google search and found George's camera to be a couple of minutes away from home. We were very lucky to have met the older gentleman that works in the store. We feel terrible because we forgot his name, but if you visit the store, you can't miss him. There is a clear age gap between him and the rest of the crew. My son does not fare well with most, and we were very happy to say that he was over the moon with him. He took a great picture of our son, and was very patient and kind along the way. the only place i'll come to develop film!! i've probably brought 10+ disposables to george's over the past couple of years and it'll always be the place i go/recommend for film developing. the one time i went to walgreens they took months and the photos were horrible, it's cheap but ur photos won't be developed to their full potential. i always opt for scans and they're in my inbox within the week, sometimes even days later. i have never had an issue with film getting lost or photos not developing well (or if they did it was definitely user error). highly recommend george's to ensure your film photos are developed to capture all the beauty of the images!! the only negative is that parking in north park is super tricky, sometimes i get lucky and can park close but other times i have to park blocks away. read more

Horrible customer service, would not recommend to a friend. I bought a camera for my husband because I thought I lost his. I was told I had 15 days to return or exchange the camera. We took it back in 10 days later and was told "no you can't return or exchange because you don't have the smaller box inside the large box." All electronics were accounted for and still in perfect condition. No where on the receipt or was I verbally told that ALL the tiny boxes inside had to be accounted for if we wanted to bring it back in. I'm not out $2,500 because a .20 cent cardboard box is missing... I don't trust this place and would never buy from them again. read more

My sisters each wanted copies of photos of my mom and dad from the 1930s and 1940s. This was not an easy project. When I took the frame off my mother's photo, I realized the photo had been printed on a piece of gauze in the 1950s. George's nailed it. They transferred into a beautiful photograph. We walked into George's Camera today fully expecting to be upsold and pressured to spend a lot of money. Boy were we surprised. I brought in my older Canon to be checked out and cleaned. I was told they could clean it for $60 but it really didn't need it. All it needed was a bit of TLC that I could perform myself. The staff greeted us as we walked in the door and truly made us feel welcome. Since I haven't used the camera in several years I wanted to play with it before I replaced one of my broken lenses, which can only be used as a paperweight, since its fall. They respected my decision and even told me about the Encinitas flower fields event where I could try other lenses that will have there in April. I really wanted to like this place. Just moved to San Diego from Huntington Beach and love medium format film photography. I shoot and develop a roll or two a week. For 7 rolls of 120, scans (jpeg) and development, it came out to a whopping $180 dollars. I couldn't believe it, it's the most I've ever paid for dev/scans. If you are considering them as a frequent source, please reconsider and instead send your film to either Bills Camera in Huntington Beach or ProPhoto Connection in Irvine. Bills prices pretty much blow these guys out of the water and their scans are far superior, prophoto is also great and they have 50% off for students. Additionally asked for cuts of 3 on each rolls, a simple request. Again. It was too much to ask of this place. And check out took nearly 20 minutes. At bills it would have taken maybe 40 seconds. Really wanted to like this place. Can't recommend at all. read more

I can't say enough about how great it was to work with George's Camera. With four days to work with before a funeral for a family member, Anthony was a huge help in scanning a photo, helping to improve its quality by using some of his software in the store and helping me turn it into a poster sized display with backing. We're from out of state and stopped by during our vacation. All of the staff was very helpful and friendly during our visit! We were in store for a lens cap and cover for our little Minolta X-700 and found exactly what we needed. They even recommended another option that we ended up going with! They're very friendly here and validate parking at the lot across the street. It's also open until 6 on weekdays which is perfect for working professionals to squeeze by after a work day. However, it takes a while to get film developed (4-5+ business days. I've found that Nelson Photo and Total Photo do so in 1 business day (sometimes less). I also feel that George's was more expensive - $20/roll to develop, no bulk or student discounts. They also write down themselves your name/number/email. Which is normally fine. But, bless the gentleman at the front desk, I've had my film sent to the wrong place TWICE because other clerks couldn't read what was said. But the service is great, and it's super convenient. read more

As it turns out, he's the General Manager which explains the top-notch service. Steve was genuinely friendly and accomodating even when I told him all I wanted was to exchange my lens hood for another size. He special ordered one for me without hassle and even showed me one of lesser price in case I needed one right away. I opted to wait so he processed the order and said it should be in by week's end. What I liked was when I handed him my basic Canon telephoto, non-IS (GASP!) lens, he didn't look at it with disgust nor try to upgrade it to a higher model. I mentioned "I have no business owning the IS model just yet being a novice with little disposable income" and he laughed and joked, "I know, once you actually start making money off of your photography, then you can probably justify it." Amen to that! You've made me a customer for life! Dropped off an older DSLR for a mechanical repair and worked w/ Ryan. Absolutely top notch customer service. - Never felt pressured to buy anything, pay for anything more expensive, and even after the free repair estimate, no pressure to get the camera repaired versus buying a new one altogether. He was supportive if I wanted to hold onto it and think about it. - Wealth of knowledge. I am naturally curious and ask a lot of questions. Ryan was extremely professional, knew the answers to most of my detailed questions about repair, and offered some advice on my point-and-shoot that's been feeling a bit clunky lately. - Quick turnaround. I came to this place to get my film developed but after I recieved my pictures the quality was not that great. Expect to wait at least 2 weeks to recieve your order. I remember the pictures that I took in my disposable camera and it seems that some of my pictures were not devloped which was very annoying. It could be because they don't work on the pictures themselves but rather send them somewhere else which could also make sense as to why it takes a very long time to recieve your order. She advised me that it would be $20.00 to have it shipped to the people who would do the consultation and then they would call me to advise me of what needs to be done. Great prices and selection So I have been in here many times before for my various photographic needs, and I have to say it is nice having such a professional camera store located in North Park. On this particular purchase, I went in to buy and lens and filters. All of the sales associates were busy with other customers so I decided to browse the tripods. They have a nice selection of photo sticks and heads, but their selection for bigger sticks and video heads was lacking. I noticed a free salesman and made a beeline towards the counter. He listened to what I was looking for out of the lens, and then brought out a few different lenses and let me put them on the camera and test each one. He was very friendly, and was genuinely passionate about cinematography and his job, which is always pleasant. He cut me a deal for paying cash, and I was very satisfied with my purchase. Sure, you may save a little bit of money using an online retailer in certain cases, but George's provides the service, knowledge and support that their online counter-parts (for the most part) lack. I had the best experience at George's Camera today. I had purchased a disposable camera for fun a few months ago and needed them developed same day for a birthday gift I was preparing. I called them and asked if I could bring in my camera for rush-same day order. I dropped my disposable at 12:00 pm and got a text 1:50 pm that my photos were ready. I was able to get both physical and digital copies along with the original film for about $30. So cheap and so fast. It's crazy how hard it is to get film developed nowadays and how long the turnover rate is at other places. The staff I have interacted with all have been friendly and accomodating. Sometimes I like to wander around and see what is new on the market. I've been using George's for film development for about five years now. As an amateur/hobbyist, I really love George's. They've always been kind and patient with me when asking questions and have never made me feel stupid for not knowing a ton about film. I've gotten lots of beautiful pictures back from their development lab. They've given me advice about 3 different cameras and have a big selection of film. As long as I'm in San Diego, this will always be my go-to spot. Edited to add that other reviews have stated they don't develop film on site. As far as I know, this is false. The George's in Clairemont sends film to the George's in North Park for development. George's North Park has a photo lab on site and only sends slide film off site for development, which is clearly stated on their website. read more
