Brought out of state family here. They've changed the inside a bit and it for the better. The made the Mexican bread area much better and they added roasted whole chicken and they're amazing. They have a whole onion and spicy poblano peppered inside the chicken cavity. They taste awesome and def worth the price and it lasted us about a week. They have added a few new items and added a couple of cold cases around the store. Staff is always friendly and checking out is always quick no matter now busy they get. Def recommend stopping by. Moving from Miami to rural Ohio has been a real shock to my palate, especially considering my Cuban/Spanish heritage. The variety of restaurants or ethnic food available for purchase at grocery stores is laughably low. So i heard about George's International Market and checked out their website. I was really excited to try it because it gave the impression of being "International" and i love a wide variety of foods. I decided due to this to make the long drive into Fort Wayne to check this place out. My first impression of this place was confusion. Just inside the store you find a statue of a lion holding a shield, a statue of Elvis, and a third statute of Marilyn Monroe in her famous skirt scene. I am unsure what this has to do with a supermarket. I then walked into the actual market and was surprised at how much smaller it looks than in the website. I also discovered as I began exploring that its "international" designation is a bit overstated. It does have food from one or two European countries but its mostly hispanic and really mostly Mexican. Was i a bit disappointed? Yes. That said, i did find a lot of food that my culture also loves in here that overlaps. Firstly, i found actual green plantains! Usually in the supermarkets near my home they sell plantains but they are rarely green. To be able to fry some up and have tostones! Yes!!!!! I also found other products my family and I would love including plantain chips, malta, yuca, tamales, Jamaican patties, and croquettas. The croquettas were of the frozen variety and sadly only in chicken, i prefer ham. I was also very happy when I found Pineapple Nectar for my mom. She loves the stuff and hasn't had any since we moved! So i did end up buying quite a bit when I came here and i will likely come back again. I hope they continue to expand what they have available for sale here, though. read more

Yes they have anything you need, fresh produce, 10 butchers cutting meat all day, olives at a super price, chips, fresh salsa, guacamole to go and carnitas on the weekend! We stopped in to pick up some bulk olives which were half the price of other grocery stores in town. We also ended up with lingua tacos, a pint of guacamole , pork and chicken tamales and Mexican cheeses. Of course a desert was in order so a tray of excellent baklava topped of our order!. We ran into the owner "George" and he was gracious. Schedule some time to shop this store and spend time wandering thru the aisles and be amazed! read more

So I just got home with worry in my heart. After the hour drive from Georges, my car smells like Carnitas. The worry comes from actually unwrapping the package and it never seeing it's intended use. It's that good. We hit this joint every time we go to Ft. Wayne, no questions asked. I'm not sure what store this used to be back in the day, but I will say it's about the size of a medium grocery store with the whole back wall dedicated to meat. Let's talk about meat for a sec. On Saturday there is a whole team of anywhere between 8 to 10 butchers breaking down whole products before your eyes. The far right portion of the counter is dedicated to just carnitas. Like most Mercado, carnitas are a weekend thing, and at George's, there are mountains of it from shedded to whole chunks. For the folks that know me, know I'm a sucker for a good grocery store. I like the fancy high-end ones, this is true, but give me an old school mercado any day. This is real food for real people. This is where the cooks at those Mexican joints come for their supplies. These stores are the source for all things Mexican in it's raw form. Georges, for me is more of an institution where I gain inspiration to try cook this kind of cuisine. If your in the area, or even if your not, make your way here and see what it is all about. Oh, Did I mention that there is a taqueria inside the store? I'll save that for another review. George's International is your go-to spot for all your Mexican food needs. It boasts a wide selection of Mexican brands. Great produce. Nice meat selection. While you can't get all your shopping done here - it is a great spot to stop in to when needing produce for dinner. And the best part - 8 limes for $1 (at least every time I've been there!) Salsa Grille Taqueria is inside and don't miss it! Best tacos, quesadillas, burritos, guac, and salsa around! There is also an attached bakery - which I have yet to check out - but selection looks to be big! read more

Friends...I swung past George's after work tonight to grab a sweet treat for a small gathering of friends and I've just been crowned the most thoughtful guest! I purchased their 4-tiered cake called the atomic and for kicks got churros for the kids. This cake was to die for. It was so fresh, with a yellow cake layer, a strawberry gelatin layer, a cheese cake layer, a chocolate mousse layer and chocolate cake layer, garnished with huge strawberries! George's did NOT disappoint. Go George!! Oh, and the churro I nabbed was unbelievably fresh and crisp! read more

I was here two days ago and discovered this precious little diamond in the rough. And from Monday til today (Wednesday), I couldn't think of anything else. Today I ordered two Carne Asada tacos that were again flavorful and delicious. And the salsa provided was much tastier-it had a lil kick that I liked. The counter people are really friendly. They provided me a free sample of their house-made Horchata. It was a bit spicy (in a good way) and creamy on the tongue. Overall, I liked it. Not too bad for rice water. Love this place. Has so much packed in there, and many things that you just can't get anywhere else. As a chef I really appreciate the wide variety of spices and global products. They have blood sausage, cod roe, chicken feet, three types of feta (yes, there is more than one type), several olives in different styles, chayote, tomatillo...man, I could go on for hours. But I really should mention the tortillas - so many kinds I can't list them all. On the weekends they sell carnitas by the pound, and they almost always have hot chicarones for sale. The staff are very helpful, the manager especially so. You won't have to look for him, he'll probably come find you. The only, ONLY, thing I don't like is trying to get attention of the guys behind the deli/meat counter. Can be a little difficult at times. But once they start helping they are very helpful. As many have mentioned before the tacos here are amazing. Seriously some of the best, if not the best, that I've had. So many different kinds. I really recommend the chorizo, a little more oily, but it was exactly what I wanted. And try the beef with cilantro, and ....you know what, try them all. They do a special on Monday's and Wednesday's. I have yet to try the menudo, but it's on my list......thinking about it, I'm heading there tomorrow, maybe I'll get some then. Well it is first a grocery store. It caters mostly to Mexican foods, but you can grocery shop and walk out with everyday items. They have a great butcher section with guys busy filling orders. Plus they got the goods like cow tongue and chicken feet! Well if you're into that kind of food! They also make their own guacamole dip that is out of this world and I high recommend you getting a few jars. To die for!!! But my favorite part and the reason I go there the most is they have a eatery in the corner of the store. Plus they just updated it and put in new seating to make it more inviting and cozy. I go mostly on the weekends and with my uncle because we like to eat menudo. And man, do they make it and make it good! You can get a big heaping bowl of it and a bunch of tortillas. If you go home hungry, you must have a hole in your stomach. I brag on the menudo, but the taco are also to die for. People I know are always taking pictures and posting on Facebook, I'm back! I told a few guys at work about it and they got addicted to the place instantly. Like they had a problem! A good problem thou. Ok so it says "Market" on the biz name but make no mistakes, if you are a fan of authentic southwest tex-mex you gotta stop here. There is a little taco bar in the store that serves up basic tex-mex fare (tacos, burritos etc) and they rock. I am from AZ and grew up on this stuff and this is the only place in FTW that has cantina style food I have found worth eating. TACO TACO TACO!!!!!!! All they are missing are the fish tacos.. Order a trio of beef taco's with cilantro/lime and the squeeze bottle of mildly hot sauce and you are set.. Grab a bottle of orange while at the counter.. Also, great store for shopping if you like to prepare your own ethnic foods. Products are fresh and some you wont find anywhere else in town. Great place to pick up items for a good Mexican meal for reasonable prices. They also carry a few Greek items as well. Warning: prices on typical grocery store items aren't priced as that good. Their meat counter is excellent and the bakery next door in phenomenal. Every time I go to George's I stop by the bakery for a new tasty sweet treat. They also sell tacos, burritos, etc. in a corner of the store. I had the tacos and they were decent street style tacos for $1.50, but I recommend Tacos Arnadas across the street next to Mad Anthony brewery. read more

The taqueria in George's deserves note as one of the best places to get Mexican food in Ft. Wayne. Also worth notice is the fact that George's, while carrying a lot of Mexican food, is owned by a Greek immigrant and is a great place to buy feta, olives, etc. Also of note is their very reasonable produce. They must have some sort of special buying arrangement, because from time to time you can find incredibly cheap produce, such as the time I bought limes for $2/dozen or red peppers for something similar. There are also some other great deals throughout the store, such as some jarred roasted red peppers that they sell for about $1.50. read more

Great selection of ethnic foods including cheeses, pre-seasoned fresh meats, and large variety of unusual vegetables. Shared lunch from the cantina with my mother who also enjoyed it. Love the variety of food and spices available, but when I asked how to make a specific sauce - THEY TOOK ME IN TO THE SALSA GRILLE KITCHEN AND SHOWED ME HOW TO MAKE IT!!!!!!! This place just might have the best tacos in Fort Wayne. It's a grocery store, but there is a little cafe inside that makes fresh tacos daily. There is a liberal amount of salsa and cilantro. It is a little spicier than most restaurant tacos, but very authentic. read more

Great tacos and exceptional imported feta/olives behind the counter. The meat area in the back doesn't look too sanitary though.

I used to love going there when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I craved those tacos. I love that place! I haven't been there in awhile though. You can't get international food in Churubusco, IN & being from NY I'm used to having a variety of foods to choose from, so I really like George's but I grew up eating Puerto Rican food so that's what I've been missing lately. read more

Went into the market for the first time after eating at mad Anthony's. Was very impressed with the quality of fresh vegetables including avocados cilantro etc. Meat department was also very fresh and drew me to the chorizo. Good price and guy working was very knowledgeable and friendly. I couldn't pass on the signature guacamole and salsa from salsa grill. The spicy lives up to its name and some of the best salsa I have purchased in a store. We will definitely make this a regular stop. read more

This is one grocery store you should check out if you like flavorful food. Great produce and great cheese. Check out the whole outer edge of the store and you will find low prices and a lot of interesting food. All the normal prepackaged food on the shelves though are more of the usual price or a little higher than normal though. read more

Husband and I went here last week pn Wednesday. .2 carne asada tacos for me and 2 carnita tacis for Husband at the Taqueria..we also had chips and really good salsa..I used the spicy tomatilla sauce for my tacos.soo Husband tried it and loved it .Just enough heat..We also shared a large horchata drink..very tasty..AND the price !!! Under $10.00..well we gave the counter employees a tip of $3.00..very friendly service..Great tacos..even bought corn tortillas from the store..Will definitely go back.. read more

My wife and I make a special trip from out-of-town every two weeks just to buy the fresh fish. What a wonderful place!
