Mostly an art gallery to show of local artist's creations, but there is also space to rent and learn. Throughout the whole area you will find wares to be bought from paintings to pottery. Separate areas are set aside to use as classroom space if you wish you could just figure out how to be creative, much like me. The space is also available to hold a gathering. I stopped in during the recent Ethnic Fest going on in this area of the city and at that time they had Irish gig dancing held within. I love the reuse of the building. You can tell at one time it was an old industrial building of some sort from the brick exterior to the concrete floors inside. The chandeliers inside were quite creative as well. It appears they reused some old plastic bottles to give you the effect that it was blown glass. Who knew this existed in Johnstown? Now you do.

It is mow replaced by the singing, music, and dance of this ethnically diverse region. This beautiful place is host to many artistic events as well as ethnic musical bands and much more. Antique Depot can be a lot of fun to wander around and look for good old stuff…read more I love good old stuff. The new stuff for sale in mass market retail shops is crap. It's cheaply made. Electronics break. Clothing pills. Everything feels flimsy. And who needs more new stuff when there is perfectly good old stuff about? Plus it's better for the environment, our finite natural resources, not to mention helping to support small local economies of merchants selling their wares. Antique Depot is a vast warehouse composed of scores if not hundreds of stalls rented by individual merchants. But visitors need not worry about such details. Simply walk around with a basket, take what you want, and when you cash out the Antique Depot makes sure the merchants get their money. I do love how that creates a variety of aesthetics, time periods, and merchandise from stall to stall. That said, there is a downside to this approach as well, and that's the casual racism. Now some might simply dismiss my concerns as vestiges of history, selling old family heirlooms that may not have been seen as racist in their day, but now... definitely racist. And to be perfectly frank, they were racist all along. Which is not an accusation that the staff or any of the merchants are racist in any way. I suspect they are just uninformed about the cultural sensitivity of such artifacts, or maybe they just don't care. Hard to say. But either way, the jarring nature of these discoveries (and there were multiple ones scattered throughout the warehouse) knocks this place down a star or two. On my recent visit, I went in looking for what I thought would be the impossible: antique absinthe glasses that didn't cost a fortune. What I found may or may not be antique and they may or may not officially be absinthe glasses, certainly they were not labeled as such. However, they are lovely, absolutely work as absinthe glasses complete with a dosage punt in the bottom, and cost only $5 each! Plus there are cats! Did I mention the cats? They have their own stall and it looked like you could pop in and give 'em a pet if you needed a break from your shopping. Overall a trip to Antique Depot is a fun way to spend an afternoon, just come prepared to see some culturally insensitive reminders of the past out on display. If you have kids, or if you are a kid at heart, don't miss out on the amazing pinball arcade in the same warehouse, but with a separate entrance a few doors down.

It's worth noting that this is not a traditional hobby shop, if you are looking for models and trains consider trying Unkel Joe's Woodshed or Hobby Lobby. Store Interior is large and open. SCG has a large amount of gaming space in the back of the store that does not obstruct the shopping area. The large selection of trading cards including sports and collectable card gaming items is located on the left side of the store, with most behind the counter. SCG has a large selection of board games and Lego sets, with a good selection of pop vinyl's. Various table top gaming items are also available. Comic selection is primarily budget long boxes that are well organized, with some premium boxes, wall books, and a limited selection of new pulls available. Has a large selection of graphic novels. SCG Hobby is the best general hobby shop in the Altoona area and absolutely worth a stop.

I tried to take several photos so visitors have some idea what they might see, but these photos don't include many sections, such as the comics, Funko Pops, CCGs, or gaming miniatures. Of course when you tell family and friends that you are doing this they always tell you about different places to try. My dad had kept bringing this place up and I finally caved and made my way here. He had forewarned me that this place looks disheveled from the outside but to not back away. I pulled up and thought that I had to be in the absolute wrong place. I thought I had stumbled upon a hoarders property and that I may be trespassing. Well, I wasn't. It's just that this place has so much stuff in it that it looks like it is spewing outwards. Some people might say that this really is a hoarders paradise because once you are inside it is going to take you a very long time to navigate and look. Everything that you can think of is under this very large roof. It is kind of organized, but I'm not sure what type of organization they were aiming for here. Just when you think that you are done, there's more. I was a bit apprehensive to go into the other part of the building because I thought it was storage. It's not, it's just more items. Lots and lots of furniture, some you will have to climb to see. I could list the type of items you would find in here, but it would be way too long of a list. This is another thrift store in the downtown area of Blairsville. I'm not trying to play…read morefavorites, but this one was lacking, for lack of a better term, variety. The space is rather small and very cramped. With it being like this the items are all packed in and sometimes hard to sift through. There is a bit of organization to the chaos, but in actuality it is just a bit chaotic altogether. I walked in and wanted to go through the men's section and maybe look to see what else they have to offer in terms of knickknacks, but it was just all piled up on itself that it kind of gave me anxiety to go through the stuff. The employee, maybe volunteer, that was working at the time had a flat affect and made for a bit of a weird interaction. When I walked in I had said hello and attempted some idle chit chat, but it was as if I was bothering her, or maybe she just didn't even care that I was there. Whatever it was that kind of added to my anxiety at that point. I sifted a bit, and then just kind of made my way to the door.
