Georgetown General Store now, under new ownership. Nice and clean, friendly, most things you need, and food is improved and good. Italian sandwiches are very good, breakfast sandwiches are terrific, nice coffee bar, and we even tried the pulled pork sandwich which was really good. Happy to have this new and improved business back in the community. If you do not feel like hauling up to Bath, this will more than do the trick. read more

This is the brand new, comforting old Georgetown Country Store! Reopened by a new owner family in early August 2024, they carry beer, cigarettes, basic food stuffs, a wide array of non-alcoholic drinks, ice, and a few key auto supplies you wouldn't expect. In addition to snack foods and ice cream bars, they serve breakfast sandwiches and other hot foods cooked to order. The coffee is excellent and the breakfast sandwiches are tasty and generously filled. Seating is casual and pretty limited inside. It can get busy-- be patient, why are you in a hurry here? The only thing missing? A community bulletin board in the seating area, but we're sure that's coming. read more

I don't know if it's a Maine thing or a country store thing, but all these mom and pop type general stores I've been to throughout the state have the same smell. I can't quite explain it, but it's comforting and consistent. So if you're in the area and need some beer or an energy drink, a granola bar, super basic provisions, first aid stuff, oil for your car, a pale blue sweatshirt that says "Georgetown", a Snickers ice cream bar, bug repellent, sun block, viewing an art gallery on a porch, or eating quintessential sub shop food (think Italians, egg salad on a bulkie roll, pizza, even fried seafood because we are on the coast after all)... you will want to stop here. The only oddity: this specific country store is deceivingly small compared to what the outside suggests. The aisles are really only big enough for one person. We actually stood boxed into a corner by the drinks for a solid fifteen minutes waiting to try and get past people. Yikes! read more

I was so excited based on other reviews to grab lobster rolls and some basic groceries for our stay in Georgetown but this place was closed all week. No update to hours or sign. Locals said "your guess is as good as mine when they're open" so save yourself the drive and stop at Shaws or get takeout elsewhere on your way in unfortunately. read more

After my last visit, I have great difficulty giving the store a 3 star rating. For the last 14 years, the store has gone through at least three owners, each owner with varying degrees of success operating the store. The present owner always had a well stocked supply of basic needs and was a real convenience to the community. In addition, hot meals and pizza could be ordered for dinner and a full service deli counter was available. The added plus was the availability of fresh caught lobsters, live or boiled at very reasonable prices. Recently, I ordered several boiled lobsters for take out during the Corvid19 pandemic. Upon pick-up time, the store was busy and I waited 20 minutes to enter. There is little room for safe distancing and to my horror two children were running around the aisles without masks and the owner was serving customers without a mask or gloves. I picked up the bagged lobsters and left in a hurry. Another employee or customer was standing around without a mask. A makeshift plastic screen separated customers from the counter. In all honesty the place is in need of a makeover as it looks grubby. Also disconcerting, at this point in the pandemic, the locals hang out on the front porch in the early morning without masks, so one has to run a gauntlet to enter the store. Rumor has it that the place will be under new ownership. I hope they improve the hygiene and follow the State regulations. To add to my frustration, the steamed lobsters had been cooked well before my scheduled pick-up time and were look warm and had to be heated back at the house. I will not be back unless the place is under new ownership. read more

Stopped in to grab a couple cold ones and smelled the seafood cooking and knew I was in the right place. Lobster cooked at a reasonable price and had the seafood platter... some of the best clams, haddock and scallops I have ever eaten. Perfect batter on each and fried to golden bliss. This a real functioning country store with local lobstermen, clammers, hunting guides, etc. starting their mornings on the front porch while fresh large tasty breakfasts are made on the flattop in front of you. Delicious platter sized blueberry pancakes with REAL maple syrup, bacon and eggs, omelettes, grilled english muffins, fresh blueberry muffins- what's not to like. If this place were in your neighborhood, you'd be there every day. Great experience in a beautiful area. read more

The Georgetown Country Store is a good place. I'm happy they built it because for many, many years there was no store in the center of Georgetown. Now it's a well established modern land mark between the fire station and the new post office. They have everything a store should have for locals, tourist, and the lunch crowd. My Uncle says the pizza there is phenomenal. I plan to try it someday. But I can't give them 5 stars because they do not sell refrigerated potato chip dip. In most cases it should be Hell Of Good dip. I think a good country store should sell real dip. I mean they have other perishable dairy items. I walked out of there a few times disapointed that they had no good dip. But to tell you the truth I have not been this year. So if things have changed with the refigerated potato chip dip, let me know. read more

Bought a dozen and a half oysters from the Georgetown Country Store recently. Got them back to the place we were staying, a 10 minute drive, opened the bag and 2 of the oysters were dead and smelled bad. Despite refrigeration I was down to 11 oysters the day after. I'm no stranger to oysters and know how to store them properly. I'm only out a few bucks. Unfortunately the store's poor storage practices may reflect on the source, local oyster farms. A non deserving bad rap on the local fledgling oyster farm business for sure. read more

2011 Tip: New management again. Not as friendly as the old days, but still good quality grill. Now you can get lobsters and clams on the premises as well which is great as there used to be no place on the island to buy them except at the wharf. Lucky to have this stop in Georgetown. 2008 Review: What would we do without this country store? It's changed hands since we first started going to Georgetown, but we still love it. This is the place to stop for a bite to eat at their diner counter in the back. I love the Philly Cheese steak since we can't get that out west. Pizza is good as well. The best thing though, is this is where you can see everyone in town and catch up on the world if you want. We pick up milk, beer, and other things we forget or run out of - so much better than running up to Bath for it! read more

Store closes way to early. Store is always empty. Called on a Friday night at 4:45pm and was told the kitchen was shut down. How do they expect to make a living and grow if they close so early and don't keep simple items in sock? I went in for bread and milk another time and they didn't have either one. Employees barley say a word to you when you enter the business or even cashing out at the register. Very unfriendly to the point it almost makes you feel awkward for being in the store giving them business. read more

They don't have much, but enough to get you by without going back over the bridge. They sell beer, limited selection but exactly what you'd expect for a convenience store. They have the basics for food to purchase, and from what we saw they appear to serve food (lobster rolls, potato salad). Overall very convenient! read more

As vacationers to Maine we looked forward to stopping in again at the Georgetown Country Store, super friendly staff, we order off the special menu for the,day and was very pleased with everything, yummy! If you want some real down home atmosphere stop here. read more

The lobster rolls for ten and change are the best around followed by Gifford's wild blueberry ice cream on the front porch of Georgetown Island Store. Burn it off with a swim, beach stroll at Reid state park beach or Charles and Sewell freshwater ponds and it does not get much better that this on a sunny day!! read more
