I love lobster rolls and living in Connecticut I've had my fair share. They all have been good. But the one I bought at Wallace's was the best lobster roll I've ever had. Plenty of lobster meat, incredibly fresh, on a toasted roll. Heaven. Take time to poke around this store; although small it seemingly has just about everything you would need to keep your kitchen and pantry well stocked. We rented a cottage just down the road from Wallace's and in addition to our lobster roll feast, we also ordered a couple of pizzas, which were quite good. Also look for the whoopie pies, made locally, on the counter. A simple but wonderful dessert. Everyone working there is nice and welcoming, and the locals you run into are friendly and helpful as well. Love this place. read more

This place has everything. It's small but filled with useful items. Food, alcohol, pizza, sandwiches, even hidden treasures. During our stay in Friendship so glad we discovered it. Went a few times. It's also got gas pumps. And a play area on the side with cornhole. Friendship doesn't have much in terms of retail but it's great that this place is there. read more

A small town store that stays true to it's history, and makes everyone feel like a welcome member of the family. The grocery selection is better than you would expect from a small town, and the hot food is 5/5 every single time. I am HOOKED on theiir gluten-free pizza, the absolute best crust that seems like a normal crust! Highly recommend! read more

An unassuming store front on the main drag in Friendship, this place may be on the cozy side, but it's packed full of delicious foodstuffs and other necessities. While visiting friends in nearby Cushing, Wallace's was the go-to stop for lunch for our crew. Specializing in sandwiches and pizza, I had the pleasure of enjoying a variety of Wallace's eats. Wallace's offers gluten free bread and gluten free pizza crust, and I can personally vouch for their turkey club, chicken salad, and ham and Swiss on GF bread. The GF pizza (sausage and mushroom) was also tasty. All the meats are Boar's Head, and here's a pro tip: call ahead to place your sandwich order to save time. read more

Whenever I am back in the area, I make sure to stop in for one of their killer Italian sandwiches. I also have brought numerous friends here to try their lobster rolls; prices can fluctuate year to year depending on the market price of lobster, but their sandwiches are always massive, served on a bulky roll, and what I consider to be a true Maine staple. I'm giving Wallace's 4 stars because, while the store is excellent, their sandwiches are TERRIBLE. For a tiny sea coast town, Wallace's market is an awesome convenience. They stock most of what you'd need "in a pinch" and some nice surprises, as well. Their steaks are fantastic, vegetables are fresh, and the mushrooms are gorgeous, though expensive. They have a good supply of grocery staples, as well. Their baked goods aren't wonderful. I'd give them a C+. Pizzas rate a B--B-, but the sandwiches are absolutely tasteless. Today, they forgot to put dressing on my Italian sub: think bland. Dry and bland. The staff is nice, and we'll keep going to Wallace's but not for their sandwiches or prepared food. Sadly, it's not worth the price. read more

Don't let the humble roadside appearance fool you--this market has everything. We stopped in because we happened to notice a little sign advertising lobster rolls. Soooo good! Simple: nice soft, warm toasted buttered roll, plus a healthy portion of lobsters that tasted like it was just off of the lobster boats in Friendship Harbor about 1/2 mile down the road. Maybe a little bit of breadcrumbs, too. We devoured it. A top-five lobster roll. The market is chock full of good wine, plenty of craft beers, fresh produce, boutique baked goods, pizza and other prepared, hot foods, and all sorts of provisions. They pack a ton of goodness into a tiny space. Highly recommend. Worth the trip if you're staying in Rockport, Rockland, Camden, etc. Such a beautiful drive there and a cute little harborside town, to boot. read more

Wallaces is a must visit stopover for everyone visiting friendship. And for those who live in the area it is a wonderful gem that is a true luxury to have locally. Open every day of the year at5 am You can always depend on Ernie for wonderful coffee and hot yummy breakfast sandwiches. The sandwiches for lunch are excellent, great value and famous. The pizzas for dinner are hand made and fantastic... they easily compete with regina's in Boston. Great wine and wonderful local craft beers selection. The service is wonderful. While the selection of fresh veggies and meat is not extensive, it's better than most small markets. They have a deli counter with excellent lobster rolls, decent pizza by the slice or by the pie, and much more. For dessert they feature scrumptious gelato. Want the Portland or Boston paper? Got that too. Spoke to a local who said they will get items for you that they don't normally carry, if their supplier can come with it. How many places these days will go out of their way for you like that? But the chief attraction at Wallace's are the owners. They're always ready with a smile, take the time to chat with customers who want to, make a point of saying 'Hi' by name to regulars as they come in. Wallace's has "the best lobster roll in Maine" according to the Boston Globe. My boyfriend had one, I took a bite and it was indeed delicious. The counter at the back had lots of sandwiches to choose from, but I had the chicken tenders and they were great. Both choices were very reasonably priced! The store is pretty packed and carries everything from deli meats to (excellent) bottles of wine. I also had the blood orange gelato, recommended by the staff, and it was so refreshing! We sat out front, on adirondack rocking chairs. The charming old fuel pumps really add to the atmosphere. Not much else in the area, but Wallace's is not just the only choice, it's an excellent choice and a great resource for the area. read more

In a town named Friendship the people being friendly is a given, but beyond that Wallaces is an oasis in the remote area of Friendship. Wines they got it, meats they got it, ice they got it, deli they got it, cool t shirts they got it, candy and ice cream boy do they got it! My favorite thing was the hotdogs and some buns we cant get at home and the price is almost free. Lobsters, how many do you need? If Ernie doesnt have it, you really dont need it.
