They came to install 4 months later than promised and all the 4 closet built ins I paid for are useless and missing doors and inoperable. They asked me for more money before they would finish the failed job but I did not pay since I haven't even received 50% of the work I already paid for and I don't trust they will come back ; then they threatened to put a lien on my house. If I could give a negative star, I would. I would not recommend Atlanta Bookshelves. They caused a lot of damage during demolition, failed to show up to multiple install appointments (and then showed up late to the ones they did come to) ... and then they had to demo the project again due to incorrect measurements. On top of that, the second install was sloppy and their install damaged our base boards and molding which now look bad and cannot be fixed without replacing the parts. Just to get to this point it has been a year ... likely due to their high installer turnover (a new installer every time) I have wasted so much of my time trying to chase down Atlanta Bookshelves to come out and then waiting for them to not show up on time (or at all) ... time I can never get back ... I would also add that I am very weary of any 5 star reviews posted here. If you notice, very few of the reviewers are actually in the area... a big red flag to me for a local service provider. 12/2/21: This review is intended for Atlanta Bookshelves out of Jonesboro, GA... If you are here looking at reviews before deciding to work with them or not, I bet you to RECONSIDER! This company is completely unethical and corrupt. I know sometimes you think "oo it's just one review" but if you look on BBB under Atlanta Shelf you will find hundreds of reviews just like mine. Do not trust them with your hard-earned money. We began working with Atlanta Bookshelves in March 2021. After approving drawings we had a scheduled install for a full family room built-in unit for July 2021. Once the installers arrived we noticed that the delivered product did not match the drawings (the arch requested was not symmetrical and one side of the uppers had adjusted shelves, we agreed on fixed shelves). The product was also of extremely poor quality. The installers also arrived at noon on the day of install, left our home with scuffed-up walls, a cut-up mantle, an outlet that is not currently in code, and nails in the family room and driveway. We asked for the installers to take away the upper portion of the built in's as they were incorrect. All we asked was that they fix the uppers and come back. That's where the problems began. We had already paid $2,500 at the time of agreement (March 2021) and then before leaving in July 2021 they requested an additional $1,300 which we paid via check. We haven't seen Atlanta Bookshelves since. We have attempted to contact them at least twice a month since (it's currently December 2021) with either no response or an off-the-wall excuse. We requested the owner, Tim, to come to our home again to see the project. He no-showed THREE times. Literally just didn't show up. Can you imagine?! We currently have paid almost 75% of the initially quoted cost of $5,188 to which we have about 40% of the project completed in our home (happy to provide pictures if necessary). They are in breach of contract and have stolen our money. If you pay for something and then you do not receive a said product that's stealing and fraud! We have since moved on to filing a claim through the Clayton County Small Claim Court system in hopes to recoup at least a small portion of our money. This company is both unethical and incapable of running a successful business. I don't wish for anyone else to go through what our family has endured and just request a portion of our money returned to us so that we can all move on with our lives. I'm a pretty picky customer and one at this job to gift character to my home and be a major focal point. I looked around at a lot of sites and shops when I found atlantabookshelves.com Which appeared the best suit our needs and design ideas. Tim and his design team worked with us throughout the design process and I found exactly what I was looking for. The process of selecting a design went quickly after a few simple discussions. The project turned out beautiful and we don't know how we ever lived without it! I get compliments from everyone that walks into my home. I think what really set this project to part was the personalize experience. Everything about this project turned out great! Tim Ford and his wife Ginger are the worst business owners I've ever dealt with. We had two contracts with Atlanta Bookshelves to build two bookshelves, and it clearly stated that any disputes would go to mediation. However, they simply disappeared (after months of strange behavior--happy to share their emails), and informed us they would not build our bookshelves, refund any of our money ($4,360.50), or go to mediation. No compromise. We tried many times to find a solution. We even resent them their own emails, showing in their own words that they made a mistake and built the wrong bookshelf. No comment, they simply vanished. Before they quit, it was four months of disorganized emails from them (sent from three employees and two email accounts), often contradicting one another; as well as, disorganized visits from Tim (once he came with no tape measure, no pen, and wasn't able to find our email on his smart phone regarding what he came out to discuss about the living room bookshelves--we had to lend him these things and I printed out a copy of the email for him, from my smart phone). We were told Ginger handled all the contracts and would be out on contract day, but she never showed and no explanation was offered. We were easy going through all of this, and didn't question them. Then, after signing a contract with Tim and handing over thousands of dollars in our deposit, they disappeared for 12 days. No explanation. During this time, I sent an email response with some edits to the living room bookshelf plan they submitted (it left out basic things we agreed to during his visit), and got a vacation responder. After 12 days, a new employee emailed us, whom I honestly think was Ginger using a different name, pressuring us to agree to the plans, telling us it is "time sensitive" as our build date was approaching and they didn't "want any delays." I asked if she'd read my email, and then forwarded it. They hadn't read it. They eventually responded (in a confused fashion, from separate employees and email accounts) without answering all of my questions, and offered another incorrect plan for the living room. I see they have some good reviews, and I'm not sure why. My guess is that these customers wanted more basic bookshelves. We were clear from my very first email to them, with photos, that we wanted something more involved. They always agreed to this wholeheartedly, but then repeatedly tried to have us agree to more basic bookshelves. The initial plans they submitted were simply the standard bookshelves for that space, disregarding our specific interests. Despite the promises, spoken and in emails, I don't think they could do what we wanted. Actually, later they said this in a text. After we handed over $4,360.50 in two deposits, their promises diminished into just trying to push through more simplistic plans. Ultimately, I completely designed our living room bookshelves myself, and they came out to confirm the measurements (with no tape measure, borrowing ours), and then we all agreed. They emailed two weeks apart asking for confirmation of the final plans, and both times I responded in full, clear confirmation. Then they must have had some internal confusion, because they suddenly built our office bookshelves instead, which were never approved and were nothing like what we said we wanted. We have many great relationships with contractors, and we're known to be generous and understanding. Also, do not believe that you will receive a free "3D concept drawing" (or any drawing) before pressure to sign a contract. This is why we chose them, the promise of this drawing. They come out, do measurements, we discuss the project, and they draw up a bookshelf. Then, if we like it, we agree to work with them. This is their ad. They did a simplistic version of this for the living room (with promises to edit), but not for the office. Instead, they tried to push us into signing two contracts and giving two deposits at once, even though they hadn't provided a drawing for the office. We were nice about it, but only gave the one deposit we'd gotten a drawing for. As for the office, they'd had a month to submit a drawing for and hadn't done it. We asked several times, but no response. We even offered to pay them for the drawing, or even for multiple drawings. Tim agreed to this in person, but then did nothing. We ended up signing a contract for the office as well, never having received a drawing first. Afterward, it was completely downhill. Tim assured us that his builder could "do anything" and that "if we can't buy it, we can build it," which ended up being incorrect. They couldn't do the ornate top bookshelf moulding I'd asked for (and given photos of) from the beginning. They ended up writing me that it was impossible and would cost an extra $15,000. I have no idea what happened to the sample pictures I handed to Tim during one of his visits. read more

I'll start by saying I'm pretty sure I'm wasting my time writing this review because there's no way these people are going to be in business much longer the way they're running things. I only hope I can spare a couple people from the 6 month disaster that's been my experience with ATL Bookshelves. My experience is very much similar to these other 1 star reviews. Do yourself a favor and find literally anyone else. The short story is - we paid these people $7200 in cash to install two projects and were told it would be a two-day install. It's been six months, countless no-show appointments (which meant us clearing our schedules to be around for these people that never came), a late appointment resulting in a half-done install with damage to existing our baseboard, a bench that was painted instead of stained, missing pieces, at least 3 different receptionists with conflicting explanations, 4 different installers, and the project remains incomplete. We're exhausted and have conceded these people have no intention of finishing the project because they've already gotten all our money. I feel like an idiot for waiting this long to throw in the towel, but I know they're a small business and these are hard times for everyone. I really wanted this to end well, but at this point we have to pay another person even more money to finish the job we already paid ATL Bookshelves to complete. The most frustrating part is they seem to be continuing to complete other jobs. If you've already given them a deposit do yourself a favor and DO NOT pay them the balance until the entire project is complete. Tim made a point to say we didn't pay cash. Our first deposit was via credit card. The second half was via check. In both cases, they received the full payment. UPDATE #2: Because I am getting quite a few direct messages asking the same question, no, ABS never followed up or made any effort to make right on this issue. I had to pay another handy man to come and finish the job. He came and measured, went to the hardware store and picked up the remaining materials, installed and painted in ONE DAY. Buyer beware. I contracted with this company back in the spring to manufacture and install some cabinets in my condominium in Buckhead. I paid them $1300 as a deposit. They never came back to install and they never refunded my money. I have contacted them on multiple occasions, and they have told me that they refunded The money via PayPal (though they do not have my PayPal address.), then told me that they refunded the money via credit card (though they have none of my credit card numbers. Keep in mind that I paid via check.) and the owner, Tim, will not take my call. You can do far better than dealing with these guys. read more

I am not sure where to begin. It just saddens me that when you pay good money for a job to get done and the result is a not happy customer. I want to make all future consumers aware of the work that was done by this company. I am not going to get into all the horrific details or my interactions with the company after I informed them that I was not pleased with the work. The pictures should say it all. Prior to install, we were told that the doors would not be installed until 2 weeks which is not acceptable. After the doors were installed, there were gaps left when doors close. Project type: Living room built ins and office bookcase. Pros: - Initial consultation and quote were provided in a timing manner - Price was reasonable - Email responses were fast in the beginning - From signing of contract to install was about 4-6 weeks which seems consistent with other companies we looked at - Drawings were provided for us to approve Cons: - Measurements for the cabinets were incorrect. When I brought it up, I was brushed off multiple times. It took several emails and phone calls to the manager for them to take me seriously. Even when Tim came by to drop off paint stains, he was about to talk away without remeasuring until I asked him to since he was there. He spent less than 1 minute to remeasure and basically said he trusted his laser measurements. Of course, when installation day came, cabinets didn't fit. They had to cut into our dry wall creating a large gap and installation had to be extended because they had to remake the top of the cabinet. - The drywall work that they did to fix the gap was terrible. We had to sand it down and redo it all ourselves. I attached a picture. - The wood mantel for the office was also measured wrong TWICE. They remeasured it, remade it, and it was still wrong. It did not cover the entire mantel and trim is still sticking out. We were so over it that we just kept it as is. I attached a picture of the first prototype that was so small it didn't cover the top trim. - A week into having the living room cabinet, the seam is already coming apart on the top edge. We haven't even used the cabinets; only dusting and cleaning it. I attached a picture. - Because of all the incorrect measurements, installation was extended an extra week to the following Thursday, then when things weren't done in time, it went from Thursday to Friday. Installers showed up late both times. Throughout all this, Tim never reached out to recognize his incorrect measurements even after I directly emailed him. I never got an email back nor a phone call from him. I initially recommended them to my close friend but after this experience I have retracted my recommendation. I understand all projects are not equal and I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who had a 5 star experience but unfortunately, I cannot say the same. UPDATE: 3/16/2020 -- Yes Tim emailed me on 3/7 to say thank you for the business but again, never once admitted fault for the inaccurate measurements HE MADE, for having to redo the mantle TWICE, and redo the drywall. -- These mistakes are facts NOT accusations. I can provide emails and screen shots of conversations that were had with Angie indicating WRONG measurements multiple times. I am not falsifying information. If you made a mistake, ADMIT IT. That's all I ask. -- I can also send screen shots of the project being delayed and installers showing up late multiple times and us having to text Angie where they were en route -- The pictures of the drywall were time stamped with the date/time to show that it was DONE BY YOU ALL and it was a crappy job -- Ginger his wife texted me today to follow up on this yelp and when I called her back, the first thing she says is that she is furious about my review, and that I am a mean person, I like to argue, and doesn't want to talk to me. I called to have Atlanta Bookshelves come to my home to provide a quote. Initially, the person I spoke with was very friendly. The designer arrived (on the incorrect day) to offer a quote. Thankfully I was home. He took measurements and it was a pleasurable experience. They emailed me a week or so later with a quote that did not include a mock up or drawing of the custom piece. The initial person I spoke with called to see if had questions and when I explained that it would be impossible to move forward without having a basic sketch, she told me that she didn't need or want my business because I was a negative person. She said I could write a review, but that no one would care. I hung up while she was telling me she didn't care about my experience. I've had 2 custom pieces built before, so this was shocking. I live in a modest townhome, so maybe she assumed that I was wasn't their target customer? Whatever the case, I am just sharing my experience. Take what you will from it. I wish I could give them a lower rating. I was interested in large bookcases put in my living room. I knew it would be expensive because of what I wanted. I followed Atlanta Bookshelves on IG for weeks and decided they were who I really wanted. I called and spoke to the nicest woman who arranged for one of the owners to come out and take a look and get measurements. I think his name was Tim. Anyway, the day of the appointment comes and about 30 minutes AFTER he was supposed to be at my home, I get a call from the nice woman I had arranged the appointment with. She states that he's at the shop and time got away from him and he'll be by at 3pm. Luckily, I work from home so I just brushed it off and agreed. Well, the new appointment time rolls around and he still isn't at my home, I hadn't received a call or anything. I call the number to speak with the same woman and she calls him to find his location. By this time I'm telling my husband I'd much rather find another contractor. He then shows up almost a full 30 minutes late and blames traffic. He came in and acted like he honestly didn't want to be here. He wasn't friendly, and barely took any measurements. I was very detailed in what I wanted, but I got very little feedback. He was in and out in about 30 minutes. He said that I should expect an estimate in a few days... The nice woman called after a week to say they were still waiting on the estimate for the glass. 2 weeks had rolled by and I had not received anything. It's a good thing I had ACTUAL PROFESSIONALS come out because no one ever got back to me. Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. UPDATE::: I DID RECEIVE A CALL. It was from a very rude woman claiming to be the owner stating that she didn't appreciate me posting a "terrible and untrue" review here. She went on to say that I had received several calls from the company from several different people and they sent emails. I find this behavior even more unprofessional! I NEVER RECEIVED ANY QUOTE AND NO EMAILS WERE RECEIVED! EVER! She then followed up by asking about the city I live in. I'm not sure if that was some kind of passive-aggressive threat, but I don't appreciate this company contacting me about a review over their terrible service. read more

We were really excited to get our bookshelves. We had a great meeting with Tim, the owner and unfortunately signed a contract and paid a hefty deposit before thoroughly researching this company. It appears that in the past their work may have been solid and on time. But our entire process took months. We had to hound them down for weeks to finish the project. We dealt with multiple employees. It sounds like they cannot keep good people anymore. We would not recommend this company to anyone in the future. Their quality of work is not high end anymore. They don't have the same workers. Also, we went weeks without hearing from them and never knew if they were going to finally finish. It was a real inconvenience dealing with them. Very unfortunate. Atlanta Bookshelves just finished built-in cabinets on both sides of my fireplace with floating shelves above. Everyone that I interacted with was prompt, professional and very easy to communicate with. The process went exceptionally smoothly, from design to install, and the end result is absolutely perfect. They were super easy to work with. Had them build a big pantry cabinet to match the ones in our new home. We got a quote from the contractor that did our Wellborn cabinets at the homes construction and it was roughly double what Atlanta Bookshelves quoted. We use to be loyal customers but this will be the last time doing business with them. We have been patient and no ill interactions mind you and keeping in mind because of Covid things can be delayed but when it got to the point of them not answering our calls or returning voicemails, we are done. Just hoping trust they will at least come finish the work. They came out knowingly with the wrong materials for the project, wasn't sized properly even after measurements were taken. They have been out twice to finish a straightforward shelf and window seat and neither are still complete to this day. WITH NO FOLLOW UP!!!! They schedule then reschedule then email and reschedule again and through it all blame it on COVID. I wish I could post some pictures. This process started September 2020, when we paid 1/2 of our total cost, and it is now April 2021 and we are still in the process of having the mess fixed. Yes they do keep scheduling and rescheduling to fix the mess, but after a while you just want the job finished correctly and move on. Our bookshelves turned out beautifully! They did great work and we are very happy with the end result.

Showed up late on installation day and weren't able to finish the installation. That's fine. I understood that. Then they were scheduled to come back and finish and I waited and they never showed. Then they were rescheduled to come back and finish. I waited again and they never showed. Finally they came back and were supposed to finish, but didn't have all the equipment to finish. Tim told me they would be back the next day to finish, but after he left, the other employee said Tim said they had a full day and wouldn't be able to come back. It was hard to get an answer on when they would be returning to finish, and there was no urgency on their part to finish until I said I was hiring someone else to finish the job. There were other odd moments through the whole process, but I'll just leave it at this. I ended up hiring someone else to fix a few things and finish the job, so it cost us more in the long run, but was worth it to not sit at home waiting on someone to show when they left me waiting for 2 days without anyone showing. read more

This company is very unethical. They gave a positive first impression initially until they got their money. Then they failed to follow through with their work. The sales lady Kathla is not a real person--she is actually Ginger the wife of the owner Tim. A few of their staff confirmed to me that they are having financial issues managing the company which is why they cannot finish the work properly. I learned from another customer that they have had to hire an attorney to get their deposits back which was over $4000. Their employee also told me that they spend a lot of time writing fake positive reviews. I suggest people look up court records regarding this company. All of their unethical actions are verifiable via the GA Court records. I had to hire a carpenter to finish the work they failed to do with our bookshelves. Very frustrating experience. read more

I was so excited to have built-ins installed after I bought my house. It was a HUGE expenditure for me. Unfortunately, I am so upset with the final product that I can't even stand to be in that room - it makes me too mad. I had two conversations with the owner about what I wanted. Both times I was very clear that I wanted bookshelves that went to the ceiling (and I confirmed it with him multiple times - he said they would do that and put crown moulding around the whole room). I also said that I wanted TWO file drawers on each side of the desk opening, and I confirmed that multiple times. I also asked for a pencil drawer above the desk opening. All of these details were included in my original request for an estimate. The first set of plans I received had the shelves going to the ceiling but did not have the pencil drawer. I asked them to add it and to adjust the width of the bookshelves. The new plans did not have the height measurment but I assumed it would be the same as the originals because I did not ask for it to be changed. None of the plans had the heights of the drawers but, since I had asked for a total of four file drawers and since they all appeared to be the same height, I assumed that I would get four file drawers (my fault for making any assumptions that they would do what I asked). The resulting final product had a gap of about a foot between the top of the shelves and the ceiling (dust trap but not large enough a space to put anything in). They installed one file drawer on each side of the desk and one drawer that is too short to be used for files but too high to be functional for anything else. The overall desk unit is WAY too low to use. So now I have a desk that I can't sit at and that no one taller than 5'2" will even be able to fit their knees under. I asked them to fill in the gap between the top of the shelves and the celing. It took them MONTHS to get to it. And when they did it, it looks worse than the gap did. They used a totally different color paint for the filler board than for the original unit. Because my house isn't totally square it is now very apparent that one side is shorter than the other - something that would have been concealed if the shelves went all the way to the ceiling as they were supposed to. The crew that actually installed the unit was great. Truly fabulous. The problems were all with the owner who drew up the plans - and with the terrible customer service. The crew just installed what they had been given. DO NOT TRUST THEM TO DO WHAT YOU ASKED FOR. RECORD EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION THAT YOU HAVE WITH THE OWNER SO THAT YOU HAVE PROOF OF WHAT YOU AGREED TO. INSIST THAT EVERY SINGLE MEASUREMENT BE INCLUDED ON EVERY SINGLE SET OF REVISIONS TO THE PLANS. MAKE NO ASSUMPTIONS THAT THEY WILL DO WHAT YOU ASKED FOR. But better yet, don't use this company at all. I am so sad that the room I was so looking forward to now makes me so upset that I can't stand to go into it. If I were rich, I would pay some other company to tear it out and completely rebuild. But I am not, so now I am stuck with a unusable built-in desk, and a ton of wasted and ugly space on the top. read more
