To be able to get this type of fresh produce from a chippy is just amazing, you cannot ask for better - infact it was so fresh that we saw more fresh fish being brought in as we were being served. My boyfriend had the scampi and chips and although this didn't look like much on the plate, it was gorgeous and he also said its the best chippy he has ever had - high praise there believe me lol The staff are friendly and helpful, the seating area is small (there are only 5 tables) but if you are lucky enough to get a seat by the window you can appreciate the scenary while tucking into your chips :) I cannot recommend this place enough!

I decided to opt for a meal deal and so I had lunchtime fish and chips with bread and butter and an oyster for dessert - very greedy I know. The fish and chips were really nice, chunky, tasty and fresh and the oyster shaped wafer filled with ice cream was a delight though nothing can compete with my memories. This is a family run business right in the middle of Holywood - it is clean and attractive looking from the outside and also has seating for 45 people upstairs. A great wee place to dine in or take away and if you grab a meal deal you will have plenty of change from a tenner.

The space is small but doesn't feel cramped, even though it was full of people, seated at the little wooden church pew booths and wooden tables that give the place a distinctive character of its own. The battered cod is pretty good, but its the chicken strips that keep me keeping on going back. Somebody stop me. The legendary chicken strips are long chunks of chicken breast deep fried in lovely lardy batter. But not too lardy, lovely and golden and quite crispy. They come with chips and one portion would feed two people with moderate appetites. So not the husband and I then. Throw in a tub of gravy and you're good to go. That little lot will cost you less than £5. The other must try are the battered mushrooms. These little beauties are hard core as the spongy mushrooms really soak up the oil but a couple of them totally caked in salt are strangely good. The Golden Chip does kids meals in a box for £3 which come rather unusually with a Kinder Egg. Odd choice but of course the kids love it. So maybe more clever than odd. What you will also notice about the Golden Chip is that it is spotlessly clean and that the servers are polite and friendly which are two things you don't always get for your buck in a chippy. Lunchtimes and weekend tea times can be busy with a wait of around 10 minutes so bring the paper with you and chill your boots. Although they can be 10 verrrry long minutes when you're starving and surrounded by chips. Judging by the number of plaques on the walls, they have won a shed load of awards. Quite right too.
