I recently participated in Georgie Lou's Retro Candy's 6th Annual Sweetheart Stroll, and while this may have been their sixth time hosting it, it was my first time even hearing about it. I immediately corrected that mistake by buying a ticket the moment I saw the event posted--and then started counting down the days. The concept alone sold me: a ticketed, adults-focused stroll through downtown Carlisle, with participating small businesses offering tastings, experiences, treats, and deals. Sweethearts of all kinds were welcome--couples, besties, gal pals--and dressing in red and pink for Valentine's vibes was strongly encouraged. Say less. Ticketing was super easy, and Georgie Lou's did a fantastic job with pre-event communication, especially via social media. One post in particular deserves a shout-out: a reminder to bring a bag to carry your treats. This is something I absolutely would not have thought about until I was awkwardly shoving sweet treats into my coat pockets. I came prepared with a small reusable shopping bag (pink, obviously), and by the end of the stroll it was completely full of sweets, trinkets, and purchases. Meanwhile, others were struggling with overflowing pockets alongside gloves, hats, maps, and life regrets. Lesson learned. Excellent advice! I found parking around 1pm and headed to Georgie Lou's to check in and grab my materials. The staff were incredibly friendly, checked my name off the list, and sent me on my way with a Map of Hearts, a button identifying me as an official 2026 Sweetheart Stroller, and a small sweet treat to kick things off. I also took some time to explore the shop itself--my first visit--and wow! They have managed to pack an impressive amount of nostalgic goodness into a small space. Total blasts from the past, plus candies I'd never seen before. Super fun shop! From there, the stroll itself was a delight. Georgie Lou's clearly put a lot of care into coordinating participating businesses, and it showed. Most spots offered sweet treats, discounts, or special offerings, but every single business was warm, welcoming, and happy to have folks stopping in. Even though I've done a few downtown Carlisle walk-style events before, I still discovered shops I'd never been in--and every purchase I made that day was from a place I was visiting for the first time. That alone feels like a win. Overall, this was a fantastic way to spend a few hours on a very chilly January Saturday. It got me out of the house, walking downtown, supporting local businesses, and discovering gems I usually zoom past while driving from Point A to Point B. I had such a great time that I jokingly asked if I could pre-register for next year... apparently that's "not a thing yet." Fine. A throwback place for sure. Waking around you have flashbacks as a kid with all the candy you used to eat. The excitement my father showed made the trip worth it. The sad thing was they don't offer military discount. This is a big military community being next to Carlisle barracks. read more

Easily the coolest candy store in all of Pennsylvania. I'm from Carlisle, but haven't lived there in over 20 years, but my mom still does. On a trip to visit my mom, I took my daughters for some lunch at the Hamilton, and then we stopped in at Georgie Lou's. Every conceivable type of candy resides in this little gem of a shop. My kids busied themselves with deciding what varieties to stock up on, and I perused the cool and retro signs, cards and toys. It's one of those cool shops you might stumble upon in a major city, to find it in Carlisle was a very pleasant surprise. I'm surprised there arent more reviews on here, and that they aren't all 4 or 5 stars. I especially don't get the negative review from the woman who was asked to keep her kids in check. My kids were treated first class all the way, but my kids also know how to behave in public, lol. read more

I went to this "candy store" with my kids and the owner was incredibly rude. Telling my children don't touch the merchandise as they would scratch it and not buy it. This "candy store" isn't geared toward kids or for anyone who doesn't have DICKINSON COLLEGE written on their shirt. It's deceptive!! She advertises like its for kids- but her merchandise and attitude says otherwise. Don't waste your money there. Especially if you're local!!! read more

First of all, I LOVE CANDY! This store is adorable, and has a great selection. I particularly enjoy the window displays, this past one during the holiday season with the Harry Potter theme was outstanding! I always spend too much money in here. I have never tried their handmade chocolates or fudge yet, but I always stock up on old fashioned retro candies, candy buttons, licorice pipes, satellite wafers, Charleston Chews, gum, etc. They also have some fun gift ideas, such as Harry Potter themes, Star Wars, superheroes, Beetlejuice, Labyrinth, etc. At the back of the store is a great variety of fun and unusual sodas! Like Bacon, Pickle, Buffalo Wings, Sweet corn, to name a few. I have to contain myself and limit my visits to once or twice a year, and thank goodness they have wee little shopping baskets! Very fun place to shop, I think more for adults than littles. :) Wonderful store, keep up the great work!! read more

I was really surprised to see that this store didn't have more reviews! I was in there this weekend at their new location (much more convenient) and it was packed! I think some people were in getting Easter candy perhaps, but it's usually got people coming and going. This is such a fun store. They have lots of retro candy and gifts, and it's a great place to load up for a candy buffet. I am planning my husbands 40th party and I went in and picked up a large bag full of retro candy for the fun candy "bar" we are planning. Tons of small items from the bins that we used to eat as kids. I got a full bag plus a card for around 12.00. I will be back again closer to the party to get any missing items. I was also impressed that I was able to go in and find a bag of all yellow jelly beans for my sons Easter basket. His favorite color is yellow and he always picks out the yellow candies when given a choice. Really fun place overall. A little pricier perhaps than going to Walmart to pick up candy but not when you are trying to find your favorites from the past! read more

I stopped in a year ago and LOVED this store. All the cool candy from the 70's and 80's is here! it was a no brainer to order specialty candy from Georgie Lou's as a camp care package for my son. Thanks for an AMAZING and ENORMOUS package of candy that wowed my scout and his bunkmates. When I called to check on the package delivery date, the store owner answered personally and was polite, helpful and really accommodated my narrow window of delivery. We stopped by this shop while eating at the neighboring noodle restaurant. We're not from the area, just travelling through. The store was a great find! Very cool options that you won't find anywhere else. Want some Peanut Butter soda? You bet. Need a Banana Cream Pie chocolate bar? Sure thing. Tons of crazy options for unique gifts! Prices are a bit high, but as you'd expect for a boutique shop like this. I will say I was disappointed in the fresh truffles. They tasted a bit old to me, but I'm no connoisseur. I may have high expectations as my favorite is Norman Love which just melt instantly in your mouth. At $3 per piece, I expected a bit more. The organization of the store, the unique offerings and numerous selections, and the friendly employees were definitely the high points. Worth checking out! read more

Great store. Every time my daughter (age 6) and I go near there we have to go in. She loves the wax lips. She seems to find a different candy every time. My wife is always impressed with the decorations in the window. We would highly recommend this candy store to anyone. read more
