What's more fun than going to visit a dairy farm, meet the most adorable calves and see how milk is made?! Not only is this a working dairy farm where you can take a self guided tour (see the milking parlor and bottling plant) but they have a shop on-site where you can buy all their delicious varieties of milk, cheese, baked goods and other treats. They even had a clearance section where we picked up day old goodies and they were just as good! We loved meeting all the calves and also getting to speak with one of the owners who was extremely generous with her time and spoke to me and my little one about the farm, their process with keeping their cows happy throughout all year in all temperatures and maintaining the farm. We will absolutely go back when we're in the area! This is a must see for anyone who appreciates cows, milk or just seeing a farm in action. read more

a cool stop to check out dairy cows, grab ice cream and some other cool snacks .. its pretty amazing that you can see the different ages of cows! they have plenty of calves that you can see up close and pet. they are tagged with their birthday on their ear there is also a barnyard towards the back, where the older dairy cows are located where you can watch them do their daily activity or eat and potty LOL. not sure how often it gets cleaned..so it does smell, but that is normal they also have a viewing room so you can watch the milking of multiple cows. the chocolate milk is delicious, so make sure you grab a gallon or half or quart! we purchased half gallon, different pints of ice cream and whoopie pies i ended up picking the flavor - coffee by the sea! the ice cream is so yummy! but they were out of a lot of flavors in the pints. service was cool. a very busy time when we went on a sunday. read more

What a gem! We are new to the area and had neighbors tell us this was a must-visit place and we are so happy we listened! Hands down the best ice cream I've had, my daughter loves mint chocolate chip and it wasn't bright green which shows me it's authentic and fresh! They give you large portions and the price is so reasonable. Not only was the ice cream delicious but we were also able to see and pet all the baby cows and watch how they milk the momma cows! My kids thought it was the coolest thing, they also had a corn maze that the kids could run through and a huge pasture that the cows were running in. The service was great, they have two windows, you order at one then pick up at the other, it was busy and still went quickly and efficiently. Not only do they have ice cream, but they also have a small country store with eggs, cheese and breads. This is not the Perrydell I remember when I was a little girl, sadly. We had their milk delivered to our home and it was the best chocolate milk, hands down. I remember what a treat it was that my mother had it delivered. Then, we had to go pick it up and I remember her taking all the bottles back for reuse. The things we remember from our childhood. Anyway, fast forward many years and it was such a let down. Perhaps my views have changed and that is part of why it's so bothersome to me now. The calfs are put on display and away from their mothers, so when you see the babies being distant and quite sad (some even with tears from their eyes), it hits differently. If you don't know how cows operate with their young and each other, they stay close to one another and have a family, quite like a village; they stick together and take care of one another. When one dies, they stay surrounding the one who lost a member until they have finished mourning. The mothers are kept pregnant, so they can be milked for the pleasure of consumers, I was included in this until I had this experience. It's quite fair to say that many are ignorant of what truly takes place, so it may not come across as bother some. The overwhelming smell of manure (even on a very cold day in winter) stole the allure of having ice cream made with fresh (while it is pasteurized) milk. The flavor options weren't great and it tasted like the air smelled; manure. There were some young'ins working there and none of them were friendly. I won't be returning nor buying any of their products moving forward. read more

My chocolate peanut butter ice cream was better than 5 stars! Rich, creamy delicious! But my husband's vanilla shake was not so great. Not sweet enough and not enough vanilla flavor. So I couldn't give 5 stars. The little store has snacks and dairy products. Didn't see any cheeses with their label though. This is the premium local ice cream in the area and near the top of the list of best ice creams that I've ever had. It's been great as long as I can remember dating back to 2003ish. Bonus: you can go back to see the baby calves and let them suck on your hand. We love Perrydell. One of the best ice cream places in York. Constant rotating flavors. 'Tis the season for peppermint and pumpkin-ginger snap. I love going in and finding flavors like pineapple upside-down cake. The new(ish) outdoor ice cream window is great. No dogs inside but outside is OK. Plenty of picnic type seating and a few tables. My only complaint is that the port-o-potty restroom is not ideal, but serves its purpose. read more

For a farm fresh ice cream, the taste was very artificial. I got the pistachio, but most of the ice cream in the case looked full of food coloring and artificial ingredients. I've been wanting to come here ever since I found out you could pet the calves. I love cows and he grew up in the area of this Farm. We started in the farm store so I could see what they offered for later. We walked around to the first calf side where some pretty young ones were. Some were sleepy, some were making us laugh so hard. They all have varying personalities and it's hilarious. Then we made our way over to some of the older calves. All calves seem to love having their chins rubbed which furthers my theory that they are like giant Moo dogs. Anyways, after we finished saying "Hey" to the big cows, we washed up and went inside for ice cream and honey. The sundaes were amazing! A local gem! If you live in York and haven't been here, I'm not entirely sure what you're doing with your life. My family has been visiting this local dairy for as long as I can remember and I never leave unsatisfied. They have a variety of ice cream flavors on hand for dipping and a lot of tubs for sale in grocery store style freezers. If you haven't tried their chocolate milk, I suggest you do so and ASAP. They have a lot of other baked goods and even have broadened their inventory to local sandwiches and, I believe, unbaked prepared pizzas. Around back, you can pet the calves, and sometimes watch them drink from bottles, which I almost always do for at least 15 to 20 mins before actually getting ice cream. It's a great family friendly place! They even create a small corn maze for kids sometime in the fall. Plus there's one of the cutouts you can stick your face in for pictures to pretend you're a cow. I'm sad to say my family and I won't be back. Perrydell recently showed their ugly side in a vulgar way that was extremely insensitive to the family and friends of a local child who lost his life a few years ago. Their display was tone-deaf at the very least, and they had every opportunity to do the right thing when community members questioned the meaning behind their message. Instead, they stayed silent and offered no apology for their petty, crass words. I used to enjoy taking my children to Perrydell when they were little. We had some fond memories there. My sons are now grown and old enough to be deeply disappointed in what this business seems to stand for. read more
