I haven't been to a waxing studio in ages, and needed to get some work done. I wanted a reputable spot that offered a variety of services that wasn't outrageously expensive and got good reviews. I found Georgi's and was happy that I got to go. I booked an appointment easily, and the staff here is super friendly and educated. I spoke with the receptionist about what I wanted and needed done, and she gave me a bunch of price options, directed me to the website for diagrams, and eventually we booked an appointment. Admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of waxing because sometimes it can hurt, so I don't get it done all that often. But, I felt comfortable walking in here and was impressed with the quaint lobby area with products for sale. I felt instantly relaxed and my wax lady was on time and ready to go, even with my bad nerves for this sort of thing. The process went a lot smoother then I expected and wasn't as painful as I remember. After she was done waxing a strip she immediately put soothing gel on my skin to keep the irritation and pain down. Plus, she was extremely professional and did everything in about 30 minutes, which was impressive. I didn't feel as much pain as I was expecting, which is a good sign! Overall, probably one of the best, if not THE best waxing experiences I think I've ever had. I was in and out in 30 minutes, didn't feel terrible pain and felt like a million bucks when I was done. Plus, she gave me some good after care advice on soothing treatments and keeping my skin in good shape, versus shoving me out the door with a quick thank you. I really appreciate this so I can keep up on good soothing skin treatments without having to just buy the places product and do at home treatment. What a gem this place is. I've been a longtime client of the royal oak and Birmingham locations (probably since 2012ish? Can't believe it's been 12 years!), I get a wax with Caitlyn once ever 6ish weeks. This is by far the most sanitary waxing salon I've ever been to and Caitlyn does such an amazing job every time! She's done full body waxes on me before but my favorite is the Brazilian wax! I'm middle eastern so my hair is thick, dark and ANNOYING! I don't know what kind of voodoo she does but I don't get any irritation or bumps after the wax or when the hair starts to grow back: could you ask for anymore from a bikini wax?!?! First, let me say that I am an employee at Georgi's. I work the front desk. I want that to be clear from the start. It doesn't change how I feel about getting waxed. Before working at Georgi's, I had never even heard of nor considered getting waxed. Shaving was my norm and that was fine. When I started working there, I was encouraged to try, so I started very slowly with a lip wax...then a brow...and eventually I worked up to a full leg. The results were astonishing and lasted SO MUCH LONGER than I expected! Now, more than a year later, I would not go without! Who knows? I might one day be brave enough to try a Brazilian. My appt took less than 15 mins for Brazillian and underarm. Smooth sailing. Didn't hurt, only stung a bit. But this was after months of not being waxed. And note, I've had Brazillian waxes elsewhere that HURT! To the point I had to say stop. So quick and almost painless with great results, I dare say this was an almost enjoyable experience. That's pretty hard to accomplish for a wax, let alone a Brazillian. I did take an ibuprofen an hour before, so this may have played into it not hurting. But the speed at which she did it probably helped more. It went by fast. I barely needed the time I put on the meter. There was some breakage on the underarm, but I did not want to be tweezed (personal preference). They use the wax and strips. Had Katelyn (sp?). She was very swift, friendly, nice, and efficient. If you're on the fence or see bad reviews, maybe try to get her for your appointment? Very clean on area, no sticky residue afterwards. I've had Brazillians at multiple places around Metro Detroit, New York, and abroad. None come close to here in terms of speed, bare minimum pain, hair removal, cleanliness, and bedside manner. Let's face it--getting waxed, no matter which way you slice it, isn't fun. But Georgi's gets pretty close to enjoyable as you're ever going to get when you're getting your hair ripped out from you. Heading to California for a week and a half and I decided I didn't quite want to deal with shaving while I was on the road so I decided to get my legs waxed for the first time. OUCH. But.....a baby ouch. It was far less painful than I anticipated and I attribute that 100% to the awesome skillz of Amanda. She was friendly, easy to chat with, and incredibly efficient. It wasn't pleasant but it wasn't incredibly painful either. Just generally kind of a quick sting. I thought to myself "I could definitely do this more often." I had a few services which took just under an hour which was also much faster than I anticipated as well, which was a bonus. 20% off of one service for a first time customer also made this a relatively cheap experience, compared to other waxing studios/salons, anyway. The room was clean, private and comfortable. The "bed" I lounged on was covered in a super soft, fuzzy blanket which made me feel extra comfy and cozy. All and all a really fantastic experience! I normally go to the Royal Oak location, as I live in Royal Oak, but they were booked solid, so I made a last minute appointment here. While the studio itself is a little hard to find (signage on their front window, rather than above, like most businesses in the plaza), the experience was great. The treatment rooms were very nice and had diffused overhead lighting (in Royal Oak, the rooms have bare bulbs so you're staring directly into a light...). The esthetician, Maria, was friendly and professional and I came away with a great leg wax. Overall, a superb experience. I've been going to Georgi for two years now and I will not see anyone else for my waxing needs. Know that they are constantly booked, so book your appointments ahead of time (I book mine two months out). The salon is rigid regarding their schedules. I appreciate the fact that they don't allow people to come to their appointments late, because it keeps others appointments on time. But there could be some flexibility in regard to rescheduling especially for regular customers. As far as the service is concerned, if you're getting a Brazilian...it's probably going to "hurt"/be uncomfortable. I mean, what do you expect?! Prepare yourself, relax, and breath. It's simply a fact of life, so I don't understand the complaints about the pain. Since when was getting hair ripped from your body (in any location) a pleasant experience? They sell a numbing cream that I use faithfully (you can buy a sample to try before you invest $30 in the full bottle). FYI: You need to understand your hair's growth cycle. You may get a Brazilian/bikini wax and have some hair left over because your hair grows in different cycles. If you can tolerate tweeting after the wax (god bless you if you can) then ask that those hairs are tweezed afterward. read more

First appointment eyebrows were burned. I've gotten cheap waxing, threading, the expensive places all of it. Never had I been burned and I scabbed over. Horrible experience and they didnt care. I now go elsewhere. I got a brazilian. It was the most painful one i ever had. I was dressed in 10 minutes. Nothing but breakage. I was tweezing in 24 hours. Not just one or two but lots. I also got a ton of ingrowns. Contacted with no response. I now go elsewhere and don't have ingrowns. I wanted to love this place but I won't go back and don't recommend. So....this review definitely falls into the "a little bit TMI but much too good not to yelp about" category. I don't mean to brag...but I am sort of an expert at brazillian waxes (wait...is that even something to brag about?? oh well). A little history for you. My husbands job used to be very mobile. We traveled all over the place. Lived in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago...etc etc. I am very anti-shaving so in every city I always had to find a good waxer. SO...needless to say I was waxed in many cities by many different people. Some were good...some were bad...but I definitely feel like I am at the point where I can refer to myself as a expert judge as to what a good waxer should be. This was my first time at Georgi's. I am a little upset that I did not know about her until now! Her studio is very spa like. It is very clean, welcoming and relaxing. The second I walked in the door I was given a warm hello by Georgi and her receptionist. Onto the waxing. There is no way to sugar coat a brazillian wax. You are basically getting naked from the waist down and having hair ripped out from your most private of areas. But honestly....this really truly was one of the least painful brazillians that this "expert" has ever had. Georgi is very fast and efficient and makes the whole experience as "un-awkward" as she can. She uses large waxing strips so the whole process goes a lot quicker....and when you are getting a bikini wax the quicker the better! I also got my brows waxed when I was there. It is always very scary to get your brows done by a new person. The way your eyebrows are waxed can totally change the look of your face. Georgi was GREAT! My brows are kind of hard to work with as they are not very thick but she gave them a fabulous arch and I can't stop looking at them in the mirror. Lilia at Georgi's made my first experience at this studio a remarkable one. I scheduled an appointment for an eyebrow arch, Brazilian and full leg wax. After doing my research (because let's face it...a Brazilian is not the service you go to just anyone for!), I saw that Georgi's reviews were as good as they get on both Yelp and Google Reviews. Lilia exceeded my highest expectations. While all of the staff members I encountered (upon checking in and out) were very nice and professional, Lilia did the heavy lifting LOL! The service room was pristine and a relaxing ambiance was created with soft music and a scented candle. The decor was minimal, and I felt comfortable immediately. This was my first time EVER getting a wax ANYWHERE so needless to say I was friggin' nervous. Thankfully Georgi's kept it as enjoyable as possible and my results are great! Apparently they just moved to a new location on Old Woodward. It's in a building with many different offices, but I didn't have trouble finding it at all. The receptionist was a bit cold, but she was probably ready for her vacation to start so no biggie. Once the woman who would be doing the waxing was ready, I headed back to a clean white room. She was very good and helped me relax while she did her thing. I appreciated that she made small talk while she worked, because it kept my mind on other things. Surprisingly it was pretty pain free! She was super helpful about after-care and scheduling my next appointment. If you schedule before you leave, you get 10% off of that next visit. Pretty nice! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the restroom. 1) It is the size of a tiny closet. There wasn't even a place to hang a paper towel dispenser or anything. It's always scary to go to a new waxing studio. Even after living in downtown Detroit for over a year, I was still driving to the west-side of Ann Arbor to get bikini waxes, because when you find someone who doesn't scare you when they're spreading hot wax on your lady parts, you tend to be loyal to them. But I was getting tired of making the drive, so I decided to try Georgi's after reading all the good reviews on here. And while I can say that getting a Brazilian is not something I would ever characterize as a "good" experience, this was about as pleasant as I'd ever had. My aesthetician (and unfortunately I can't remember her name at the moment) was friendly and efficient, which is great, because I definitely want the whole "hot-wax-on-the-lady-parts" part to go as quickly as possible. It was also probably the least painful Brazilian I've ever had. The best part is that it's been pretty long-lasting; it's been almost two weeks and I've hard very little "re-growth." (Is that TMI? Hey, we ladies know that's important--you don't want to be spending time on tidying up after dropping all that cash). Some background: I used to go to a place across town. Its well known on yelp for cheap waxes and mixed reviews. I went, I waxed and I regretted. I guess it was time for someplace new. Luckily, I found Georgi's through the magic of Yelp. So, what's the verdict? I'm loving it. Well no...I don't think anyone loves getting hair ripped out of their skin. Yet, Georgi's makes it as easy and painless as possible. The actual studio is clean, pretty and tidy. It's like a spa for your whoo-ha. (yes, I said it). I first started out with Amanda there, but she left her loyal clientele for the Golden State. Currently, I see Anita there who is just awesome. She is sweet and gentle and lovely to talk to. Pricing is pretty fair for the services provided. A Brazilian will set you back about $55 (plus tip), double than "Spa Mixed-Reviews" but its cheaper than a fancy spa, where I've seen them charge $75+. Don't worry, the price is worth it. I have found a waxing studio for when I come home from school! This place was awesome. My waxer/waxist? was Anita and she was great. My appointment was at 6:30 but I always felt it was common courtesy to show up early. Everyone was shocked pretty much. I guess their customers don't think like I do. She had an earlier client who was late so she ended up taking me first. She talked me through the whole procedure and she made small talk with me as well. The best wax I've ever had. It was so relatively painless and so fast that I thought at first that maybe she didn't get everything, but sure enough, it was also spotless (and affordable to boot). One of the drags about traveling is that you have to find a new waxer every time you are going to be someplace for a month or more, and when you get the Brazilian (and once you get one, you'll never go back), sometimes you find out the hard way that they don't do them that often in whatever part of the world you find yourself. These girls are pros at waxing! I have been getting a monthly brazilian for about 5 years now and the staff at Georgis waxing studio are by far my favorite. I started waxing with Anita there over a year ago, but I book with whoever I can get in to see and always leave happy with my results. One trick I personally use is to take a ibuprofen a half hour before the appointment to lessen any pain. However, since I get waxed regularly, my hair grows back fine and comes out pretty easy now. Another tip I used when I was ready to throw out the razors and commit to regular waxing, was to start in the late fall. This way, if your not a fan of the 3-5 week wait of hair growing back, you will at least be covered up if your walking around all hairy. By summer, the hair is a lot finer and way less noticeable. I preference is the soft wax. My experience is that it works faster and is more comfortable then the hard wax. Good luck! read more

I have been a regular at Georgi's since being referred by a friend. I had a hard time finding the place on my first visit. It is at the bottom of the hill on Woodward in downtown Birmingham. It is also on the backside of the 600 building, with parking in a metered lot (coins only...but $0.30 is enough) This place does not disappoint. The studio is very clean and spa like. Of course waxing is painful...but this place is not bad by waxing standards. I have always seen Amanda, who is very friendly and quick! I was really tentative to get waxed, but after living in Italy and seeing all the girls with perfectly smooth legs for months on end I was convinced it was the only way to live! My hair grows extremely fast and is extremely dark. Everyone jokes that I am a hairy monkey. I went to Gerogi's and saw Caitlyn who did a fantastic job of making me feel comfortable. She was personable and made sure that I didn't tense up too much, which makes it hurt more. I have been going there for months and my hair comes in 1/10th as thick as it used to. It is lighter and softer and I can go 6 weeks now without needed to go again. I have never had an issue with them missing patches or anything either (which I read is a common problem amongst other practices). They always remember to call me and remind me the day before my appointment and the facilities are the cleanest I have ever seen. I find that once I include tip it is a little expensive, so for 4 months I went without going. However, going back to shaving was awful. I felt like my razor burn and in grown hairs increased exponentially and I have again returned and couldn't be happier!!! read more
