While this is only the second house I've bought (so I'm not by no means an expert) I am blown away by the professionalism and the thoroughness of Gerard Home Inspection! When I walked through the house with my realtor we found some things I knew would have to be fixed/replaced and I believed caught all the major things and was almost talked into just doing a contractor walk through so I could save money. I am so glad I didn't listen to that advice! Derek (the inspector that performed my inspection) walked me through the whole house (exterior, interior, basement, etc.) and not only showed me all the areas that were recommended for repair or replacement but also showed me what was good! He was so incredibly knowledgeable but didn't speak down to me or make me feel dumb for not knowing what an S trap is Within hours of my inspection I had a 62 page report with pictures and descriptions of everything he showed me, praise the Lord I didn't have to remember it all!! Again, you cannot beat the thoroughness of Gerard Home Inspections. Now let's talk about price. What is it worth to you to not buy a house that is a money trap? I know for me, when I am looking at all the things that you have to pay for that doesn't include purchase price of the home, you might start to feel overwhelmed and a professional home inspection feels like JUST ONE MORE THING that you have to pay out and trust me, I know it feels painful and you wanna save money wherever you can. But this isn't that time to save money. And let me clarify, their pricing is incredibly reasonable and by no means overpriced, it's just hard to write another check. I get it. But it will be the best money you spend. It is a tiny fraction of the cost you would end up spending if you buy a house without knowing it's a dud and needs $40k in repairs! If you're looking for a professional, thorough, affordable, and skilled Home Inspection company, look no further. My first contact was with Heather, who was very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. She explained everything with clarity and detail. And, honestly, I couldn't believe how much lower their price was compared to the other company that was going to perform the same services. Then comes Derek. In a word--amazing! I arrived at the home shortly after he did, and he greeted my like he knew me all his life. He said, "You're early!". I told him I was there to measure, and he handed me his laser measuring tool and told me to use it--it would be much quicker. Wow, talk about customer service! He continued his inspection, and upon completion, he walked around the home and helped me finish measuring! He then went room to room and explained everything that he had found--good and not so good. He even made sure I knew how all of the units/appliances worked, and gave me tips and things to look out for. He was extremely thorough, knowledgeable, pleasant, patient and helpful! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. When it came time to pay, he confirmed that I had requested a termite inspection. He then told me that it was unnecessary as he had seen that the association had already treated for them. He then proceeded to take the (small) extra cost off of the amount. I really appreciated his honesty and integrity! I, as usual, was doing things at the last minute, so Derek said he would get the report to me that evening. As promised, I received a very detailed 46 page report within a few hours. The next day, I had a couple of questions that weren't totally related to an inspection, but I figured he would know the answer. My wife and I chose Gerard Home Inspection to perform the inspection of a home we were in the process of purchasing. Derek Rison came out to perform it. We can honestly not recommend him and Gerard Home Inspection enough. Derek was extremely understanding of my wife and I running late (we got lost), took us point by point through every issue he identified, and made certain we understood what he was talking about before moving on. He gave us a frank analysis on what is and what is not a big deal. The issues we thought were the biggest going in turned out to be relatively minor. The issues that we thought were minor (or didn't even notice) turned out to be significant. At the end of the inspection, Derek spent a decent amount of time talking about the big picture of the necessary repairs, gave suggestions, and helped us process everything. He knew exactly how to give bad news in an honest and considerate manner. We were promised a full, detailed report with the pictures Derek had taken within 24 hours. He had it to us within 6. All this isn't even touching on the fact that their rate was more than fair, and significantly lower than several (lower-reviewed) companies we received quotes from. While we were not happy with the ultimate condition of the home thatwas being inspected, we are extremely satisfied with the service we received from Derek and Gerard Home Inspection. As a first time home buyer, I did not know what to expect from the inspection process. I am so glad I went with Gerard. I needed to complete my inspection on a very quick timeline and Heather at the office was able to schedule my appointment for the day after I called. She was so helpful and answered all of my initial questions about the appointment. Derek was my assigned inspector and I cannot say enough good things about him! He had arrived prior to me to do the inspection and by the time I arrived he was ready to show me all of his findings. He was extremely thorough and explained every little detail to me. I found out about Gerard Home Inspection through yelp. I clicked on "Check availability" and sent out requests to about 3-4 inspection companies. Gerard Home Inspection replied fairly quickly and quoted me what I was told to expect. They said they could accommodate the date and time I needed the inspection done and when I looked at their profile on Yelp, they had a higher rating with a good amount of reviews. I didn't schedule through yelp, but it was pretty easy to just call in and confirm that they'd be able to do the inspection when my sellers were going to be gone. We worked with Ryan. He was already at the house and wrapping up his inspection when my mom, two close friends, and I got there. He walked us through the exterior and interior, told us his thoughts on the quality or potential issue we had with all the different parts of the house, and assured me that he'd taken notes & pictures that he would send me. He answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable. Then that night he sent a copy of his report to me and my realtor as he said he would. We bought a house in August of last year and had Gerard Home Inspections come out. Garrett was great when he came out, seem very knowledgeable and seemed as if he was doing a very thorough job. We were unable to stay the entire time of the inspection due to time constraints so we weren't actually able to walk through the entire house with him. We moved into the house in September and the very first day my wife who does not a certified home inspector saw something off with the door, we quickly discovered that there was a leak coming from the door and had rotted a hole all the way through the subflooring. We called Garrett and asked how this could have been missed and after a discussion he was willing to give us a refund. We were frustrated because this was missed but were happy with his response. But since then we have noticed multiple things that were never mentioned on the report and now we are experiencing leaking in our bathroom after he told us that the house was in great shape. I feel bad writing this review because he seems like he is a really good guy but unfortunately looking back on our experience I would recommend another home inspector. read more

Yelp thinks I live in San Francisco for some reason, but in fact I live in Gerard Home Inspection's service region...I promise I'm a real customer! Anyway, we hired Garret/Gerard Home Inspection to look over an older home that appeared to be a great value: the seller's disclosure described the home's condition in great terms, and during our tour everything appeared fine considering the age of the structure. Garret covered every inch of the property, and found numerous, substantial issues that only somebody of his expertise could have picked up on. He investigated every area, inspecting everything from the condition of the wiring in impossibly small attic spaces to the structural integrity of the backyard wooden swing set. His incredibly thorough report was returned quickly, giving us a clear picture (literally!) of all of the challenges, risks, and opportunities our potential home had to offer, putting us in the best possible position as buyers. I can't even began to explain how much I enjoyed using Gerard Inspection! Especially for my first one ever. Garrett made it very much easy for me to understand what was going on and he walked me through every step and detail. Even before I booked the appointment he fully explained what I was to expect. Nonetheless, he reassured me that they are one of the only companies that still gets on the roof! I was surprised because every one else kept saying they will use binoculars. This was an awesome experience. Bryce went through everything in the house, tested everything, and was very knowledgeable. He was happy to have me accompany him and ask questions. I received the written report within an hour, with a cell phone number if I have any additional questions. I paid extra for the sewer pipe scope and he was able to scope out 100 feet. Luckily for me there wasn't anything big found, but he found a lot of nicky nack things that I wouldn't have figured out until after I lived in the home for a month, like that the front window had a lazy sash. I would use them again, I recommend them highly, and I made sure that my real estate agent knew they were a good resource to recommend. We used Gerard Home Inspections for the purchase of our first house in the US today. Things work differently in the UK and as a 'first time buyer' Bryce was awesome. Very thorough, explained everything very well. Made sure we knew what was unsafe vs cosmetic and made everything easy. The report was extremely extensive and robust, filled with pictures and recommendations. It was also turned around on the same day as the inspection to make sure nothing is held up in process when making decisions on your home purchase and negotiating with the seller. I got the lead on Derek from my son-in-law, who was actually on the receiving end of one of Derek's inspections as seller when the buyer of his house used him. He explained, this guy was so thorough, all the things we thought he might not notice were right there, every one. Of course Derek found more than that, because he takes nothing for granted. After the recommendation we used him for our town house purchase in Montgomery and he not only inspected well but also gave me lots of tips on home maintenance and how to do it as I accompanied him through his work. We had the pleasure of working with Ryan for our home inspection. With it being my husband and I's first home, we are new to the home buying process. Ryan went into thorough detail on the whole house while still keeping it simple for us to understand. Gerard Home Inspection also sends you a detailed report which also includes everything Ryan went over. It was really nice to be able to pay attention to what was being told in person instead of trying to get everything written down on a note since it's given to you anyway!
