I went for a school function this past Tuesday and the experience for me was alright but the aftermath was terrible. After eating the food, my stomach began to ache. The next day I got really sick and developed food poisoning. My friends who came with me also started to get a stomach ache on got sick.. Something is just not right. read more

Germaine's Luau had a decent buffet. The non alcoholic beverages were all you can drink with two vouchers per adult for the bar. The pig in the Imu was cool and tasty. The pineapple coleslaw was delicious. The stuff that looks like salsa has fish in it (I thought it was just pick de gallo). The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because they do not start their Luau till after all the buses arrive. We started the Luau one hour later. They have pineapple slices on the table as an appetizer which was also a nice touch. The show was great. It is all live singing and live music which is wonderful. The dancers were non stop entertaining. The dancers greeted everyone in the beginning and at the end. One particular dancer was amazing. His name is Chris and he was a true "uncle" to my girls who are 7 and 8 years old. He played with them while we waited for the show to start and would come to find them and take them to the stage when the dancing demonstrations were happening. He is also an excellent dancer, as are the rest of the crew. We really enjoyed the show. It is a very intimate setting and forces guests to get to know each other which was great too. read more

Germaine's was a horrible experience from the trip into the place ,dirty wood picnic tables with the plastic table cloths to the paper plates and plastic cutlery. The food was so bad you couldn't eat it . The crap was school cafeteria style but worse pork was watered down and no flavor at all . The cake they had was the rye served in the school cafeteria . The 2x2 squares . The show was sub par. Top it off with the ride in and out of the industrial dump and yes it is a dump right next door. They need to be closed Dow's very disappointed. read more

Try's hard to be a first class entertainment venue but falls far short of the finish line. Premium seating is no better than the baseline seating. For $165 each I thought we would get something more than a wooden picnic table, very uncomfortable. The food was substandard and cold, served on styrofoam with plastic utensils. The Entertainment was similar to that of an all inclusive resort in Mexico which fell well short of expectations. All in all, not worth the money!! read more

Bad decision by bad management. Check-in was at 5:15 and well after 7 p.m. they held up 90% of the people who showed up on time for the late people. A lot of time to waste or buy $5 and $10 drinks to kill time. I have been to other Luau's and this ranks the lowest. read more

This luau was promoted to us as the best around by my tour group. I really feel like I went into a car dealership to buy a Cadillac and left driving a Yugo. Thy sold us on all you can eat feast with great entertainment, it was far from that. The buffet food quality wise was on the low end. You get one paper plate and if you wanted more, too bad they packed it up after everyone went thru the line, did not want seconds anyway. We have 3 kids with us and wanted some pineapple juice drinks with no alcohol for us, but they were not included in the package and were an extra cost. We could have gotten one alcoholic drink for free with each ticket, this makes no sense to me. But they did offer us all the Pepsi and water we could drink for free. Had a fair show that wasted a lot of time with audience participation. If that is what you like it would be ok, but I paid for a professional presentation. Last thing, our tickets made us sit at the rear and the sound quality was poor and we could not understand anything that the MC said. read more

Let's start off with the bus ride over. We were shamed by the tour guide for not wanting to participate in singing, and chatting with others. We were then told if we do not want to participate to make sure we sit at the back of the bus when we leave the luau if we do not feel like participating, and I quote we were the " Debbie downers" of the group. It ruined our entire luau experience. On the bus ride back he was ranting about how the Japanese, Korean, and Australian tourists are ruining the original Waikiki by only coming to shop. I found this very offensive, and belittled for being a tourist. I will say on a positive note that the luau, and all staff at luau were very pleasant. We had an excellent 'escort' Georgie who really welcomed everyone and helped explain the history. In terms of the actual Luau, the transportation took around 1.5 hours to get from Waikiki to the site. The actual ceremony was a little cheesy and they kept trying for more and more participation from the audience when clearly most people just wanted to watch. The ceremony also last much longer than advertised and we were not back to our drop off location before 10 pm. To properly estimate your time, expect pick up around 4:15, and drop off around 10. this was not the luau experience I had at all hopes and wanted. First off. The pig was already cut up so we never saw and actual roast. The entertainment was not mediocre and was very short towards the end of the 3 hour night. The food was decent, it's the only thing about the luau that deserves a 2 star rating. Recently wen to Honolulu, and had went to Germaines Luau. When we arrived, we received shell lays and went to pick a table, I recommend getting there before it opens to be able to get the best seating. The location is beautiful with the water literally right next to where the tables are. Took some beautiful photos! The dancers were awesome and super friendly and the food was awesome! Everything tasted great. The part where they take the hot cooked pig out of the ground was cool too. Overall great experience . I would highly recommend to anyone planning a trip to Hawaii. read more

My husband and I went to Germaine's Luau this past week. My husband had gone a few years ago and was excited to take me there. He said he had a great time last time so we wanted to make sure we made a excursion out there. He said the bus ride to the show is completely different now. He said it used to be a ton of fun, laughing, music etc. This time around there was none of that going on. The show itself was okay. The MC was hard to understand at times. There were a lot of times throughout the show where we were ready to leave already. The show didn't keep you entertained. Almost reminded me of a drag queen show with the main lady. The main guy resembled more of a club DJ. We paid for the Hibiscus package. We felt that was worth the extra money. The beach that Germaine's sits on it beautiful. Makes for some great photos. Once we arrived and til the time we left we heard a lot of automatic gunfire. It was so loud and so close you could smell the gun powder. Which made a lot of people feel a little uneasy especially since it's in an industrial area so there's not many people around. Purchasing the larger cups for $10 more was defiantly worth it. Otherwise you receive a little Dixie cup to use with your drink tickets. We were bummed out with the show so we went to Expedia inside of our hotel and asked what luau they suggested and they told us Chiefs Luau so we went ahead and booked the royal package for there. Let me tell you, this isn't even a comparison! Chiefs Luau by far was spectacular!! There were a total of 8 fire dancers where Germaine's had 1. The chief that ran the show was hilarious and professional. So much more history and cultural. Way less "gimmicks". Highly recommend Chiefs Luau! It was amazing! We had a wonderful experience with Germaines. The bus ride over and home was fun! We paid the extra for the Plumeria package because I do not have patience, and did not want to deal with people or lines. Completely worth it! The performance was great, loved every aspect of it. Wish it was a little bit longer, but being a former dancer, I know how hard and tiring it is to change every few minutes and do performance after performance. I just enjoyed the show so much I didn't want it to end. The food was good. Some of it requires an acquired taste to certain things, but at least I tried it all. The only thing that disappointed me was our table host gave us no warning about the bar closing, therefor I lost out on my 3rd drink ticket. Which was saddening because I wanted to try a variety of their mixed drinks. Other than that, our experience was great, non stressful, or dealing with the crowd. We were up front and center and had 2 table hosts that made things a lot more pleasant. I would highly recommend paying the extra money for the Plumeria package and the transportation so you can thoroughly enjoy yourself. read more

Had a really great time. The food was good and there was plenty of it. Not sure what the posts were about that said they ran out of food and couldn't go back for seconds because there was plenty. There were close to 700 people at our luau and it ran smoothly. The lines were quick. We just did the basic luau with the one drink coupon. Entertainment was enjoyable. read more

It's got to be a tough job to entertain folks who are going to a Luau. It takes a certain personality, a gift, to achieve that goal - especially on the somewhat looong bus ride from the Hilton Hawaiian Village to Germaine's unique location, situated within a rather unattractive industrial area of the island. Unfortunately, Cousin Wally does not have that talent: After listening to his failing attempts at humor, my friends and I were ready to jump off the bus, even at the risk of getting crushed by oncoming traffic. As for the rest of the Luau, if you have never been to one, it's marginally ok. Some of the dancing is impressive enough, however, at other times not so much. Food's average only and pricing on the high side. As long as you don't get your hopes up too much and don't expect a truly authentic experience, you won't be disappointed. read more

Don't go here! We wanted to visit a luau and wish we would have skipped it altogether. The whole experience felt cheap and tacky. They have not updated their facilities since probably the 80's. Even the music in between the Polynesian dancers was bad. We saw an old video online of various clips and it looked so much better. Now for the food, by far the worst meal we have had on the island! Listen to other Yelpers, it's bad! The pork was not anything special. Even the ceremony was a joke. It's not like the one that we watched online. It looked liked they used pork from a previous show and pulled it from the ground. Nothing like the episode from the show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I heard lots of people complain about the food. The drinks were the worst part. All of them were horrible! They use the absolute cheapest liquor. All in all, we wasted a day and truly regret booking this luau. This is a solid traditional luau with a great show. The service is really, really good here. They are nice and warm every step of the way. The food is average luau food, but the drinks were the best I have had at a luau. I would recommend the Plumeria package! You get a private bar, upgraded and free picture, front row seating, dinner brought to your table, upgraded lei etc. Also, I would recommend buying the 20 ounce souvenir glass. We had a wonderful evening. The food and entertainment was topnotch. The staff were warm and friendly. The weather and the sunset were perfect. It's extremely hard to mess up a luau. we enjoyed ourselves once we got there, it was a beautiful evening. To compare it to PCC, it's set up differently and there IS less to do prior to show and luau, but that's okay we knew that going in. The ride To the luau (bus service) was interesting. it's not the picture of Hawaii you envision among warehouses and industrial looks, traffic and gridlock on the freeway, but once on the property it was fine. I guess for the guests who have never stepped foot, I didn't want them to feel like it was just some tourist trap area that looks like anything but paradise on the way there. I guess there's nothing they can do about that. There is a bit of cheesy-ness to the hosts...you can tell they are working for tips on the bus...telling the same corny jokes and using pidgin when appropriate to add a little something to the experience. I know that its a festive event, but we feel that some people are participatory and others are observers. I felt that the parts of participation, the staff were friendly/pushy...there are lots of people who do not want to get up and dance the hula or be a spectacle and it should really not be where guests are pulled on or gently pushed. It's great for many, but hard for some. It creates anxiety when you are not comfortable with that and its top of mind during all performances. read more

We were talked into this particular luau because of the " fun atmosphere " and mostly the food reviews about this place being the only real authentic Hawaiian food around. Sad to say the food was not that great the only thing that was good was the chicken, not even the pig they made a ceremony for. So that was a big disappointment. We spent $124 per person for a package. It includes 3 drinking tickets, which when our hotel concierge sold us on this package 3 tickets = 3 drinks, which is correct if you want crap house liquor. Premium liquor cost more $ or 2 tickets. Once you go through your tickets a beer can cost you $8-$10. That's nuts! Best thing of the night....The dancers were awesome! Took a long time to get to the show. They pulled a lot of people on stage, I think to pass the time. But we're weren't interested in seeing a bunch of drunks try to shake it.
