Mauka Warriors was absolutely phenomenal! We were recommended to go here by the activities concierge at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and I'm so happy we went. I was skeptical at first, because I know they have contracts with certain companies/vendors, BUT I was wrong to be skeptical. It was such an amazing time and worth every penny! I highly recommend using their transportation and taking the bus up with others. We were on bus #2 with Steph as our guide and Manny as our driver, they both were amazing. Steph helped kill the time in traffic by sharing historical facts, teaching us a bit of the language, and just generally being super sweet and entertaining while telling us what activities were available, and what to expect. Great experience. 10/10. Once we arrived, they called us off the bus by your package level and gave us wrist bands. We were in section 1, closest to the stage, so we had a welcome Mai tai, given a beautiful flower lei, and three drink tickets (these could also be used on shaved ice). They had activities all over the event; a tattoo station, a banana leaf headband station (I'm so sorry for not remembering the name of these), a Kava tasting station, a fire baton twirling station, a flower lei bracelet making station, a photo station, a spot where you could watch them pull up the kalua pig from the ground, and a bunch of great vendors selling hand made items. The food was buffet style, and honestly, I was super surprised how many options they had. Everything was DELICIOUS! Even my picky kids ate! They had chicken, kalua pork, baked Mac n cheese, noodles, white rice, wild rice pilaf, just too many great options to list. 10/10! The show was the BEST part. It wasn't just a hula show. It was a whole history lesson about the different Polynesian cultures and the wars they fought, so entertaining. I was worried my kids would get bored with a show, but they were blown away! The fire dancers were definitely a highlight for the kids, and they performed throughout the show, not just at the end. This was a phenomenal show! Hands down, the best I've seen! We missed the photo station, so we had to take our own family photo, so I recommend you do that sooner rather than later. They removed the photographers and props sooner than the other activities closed. But it didn't matter much, the background was great and our photos came out fine. Just a tip. Okay. I was a bit skeptical at first because I thought one of the other luau was slightly better. Buttt once I arrived it was actually sooo fun!! From getting Lei'd to going around the field to have different experiences. They have a variety of actives, free pictures that they will send to your phone. We got Hawaiian "tattoos" We got to learn how to peel a banana, I know sounds silly but actually hard than it sounds! We learned to scrape a coconut, they had macca root I hope I spelled that right. It's medicinal and helps with pain and relaxation. They also had alllll you can eat style buffet which was awesome! The food was sooo good!!! The show was amazing! Honestly soo worth it. A *SOLID*4 1/2 stars, with only one tiny glitch, which I will get to. I heard very good things about this luau, one of the things is that it's locally owned. It's run by local Polynesians, as well as military veterans. That's one of the reasons I decided to book. I booked through the ticket office at Pearl Harbor for a discount. You can also get a military/veterans discount booking directly with them. Even without the discount, The prices are reasonable for all that you get. They have three different price levels, and each price level determines what type of lei greeting you get, where you sit for the show, and the number of drink tickets you get. I chose the middle tier, which got me a kukui nut lei, seating in the middle section, and two drink tickets. The luau is about a half hour to 45 minutes from Honolulu, depending on traffic and where you are starting from. The luau is not on the beach, but the luau grounds were very well kept. I paid an extra $30 for transportation, and it was worth every penny. It's so nice to just be able to sit back and let somebody else do all of the driving. Our guide was "cousin Stephanie," and she was wonderful. So friendly, so engaging, she is Oahu born and raised, she told us lots of neat stories about the islands, as well as gave us some tips on places to visit and eat at. I cannot say enough, good things about her. We got to the grounds, and it did look like it was going to be raining, so they gave everybody who wanted one a poncho, the rain was sporadic and very light, but it was still nice to have them. There were activities, such as. (temporary.) Polynesian tattoos. Cooking lessons, having your photo taken with different items from Polynesia, making headbands, and other things. Before dinner, there was a hula lesson for those who wanted to try, and then there was the "imu" ceremony, were they pulled the pig from the oven in the ground. As for drinks, you could either purchase them from the bar, and they also had things such as fruit punch, water, etc. complementary. Dinner was authentic, and ono-licious! It was buffet style, and everything was good. I especially loved the fish, the kalua pork, the mac & cheese, as well as the grilled pineapple. I loved everything, but those were my favorites. The show differs from your typical luau, which covers Polynesia in general. This show, the theme is Polynesian war history told from the origins, to modern times. They also did a tribute and a special "Thank you" to all of the military and veterans in the audience, which I also thought was very special. The one tiny thing that I have to take off a half a star for, was the way that they did the drink coupons. I got two drink coupons, so I thought, fine... Two drinks. I get to the bar, and on the menu, it said that only certain drinks were covered by the drink tickets. I don't drink, and they had two very interesting "mocktails" on the menu, but neither of them were covered by my drink ticket. It just covered things such as juice, soda, coconut, water, etc. I had two very nice cans of coconut water, they were OK, but I was a little bit disappointed. That is the only. Well, we have tried many luaus over the years. This one states they are very culture based, and so we gave it a try. The dancers and musicians were very good. The food was just okay. Nothing special. Not terrible, but not great. Most things had no flavor (noodles, chicken), but the pork was way too salty. Sad. They give the option of transportation from Waikiki, which is great. However, the 30 minute trip took over an hour both ways. I know they cannot control the traffic situation, but over an hour on a bus EACH way makes for a very long evening. read more

One of the best decisions I made while visiting Oahu was going to this Luau. The staff are courteous and friendly. They make you feel as if they are glad you are there. There are vendors with various items for sale before the show. They make free flower bracelets and head crowns for only a tip. The show is fantastic with history, comedy, dancing and seriously amazing performances by the musicians. There are lots of opportunities for audience participation. I would recommend that you be sure to get a taste of the fresh pork after the cooking demonstration. The food is buffet style. There are at least 8-10 lines that move very rapidly and you have the opportunity to go back for second helpings. I highly recommend the fish!!! It was so fresh and tasty. We received two drink tickets with our meal. You can choose soft drinks, mixed drinks, and non alcoholic beverages. Be sure to review the list because not all drinks are covered by the ticket so be sure to take some money to purchase items you may desire. They had three drinks available for free at a help yourself table. I believe it was mango tea, some type of punch, and maybe ice water. Paid by card online and was easily able to schedule my preferred show time and day. This is located at the Coral Crater Adventure amusement park and offers a lot of parking. I chose the premium, midsection seating for my family and me. The pre- show activities were so fun and very well organized! The tattoo, photo booth, coconut grinding, and fire dancer stations were my family's favorites. The host did such a great job at announcing where the stations were and short descriptions of each. The hosts also did a fantastic job at announcing the schedule. We knew how to plan the time at the show and knew what was coming up. The buffet had a good variety of food and tasted delicious. I was able to go back for seconds and they still had a lot of food. By the end of the dinner, all the food was gone. The show was about 2 hours long and was the best luau my family has ever seen. (We've seen several on other Hawaiian islands and some in California.) The dancers were so talented and the stories flowed so well together. I was educated on the histories and laughed at the jokes. Wow. I can't say enough how amazing this show was. At the end of the show, we were able to take pictures with the dancers. It was hard to choose which ones to take pictures with since they were all so beautiful and handsome. (We took pictures with several of them.) When we exited, I expected to get stuck in the parking lot for at least 30 min since there were so many people. Thankfully, traffic was directed well and we got out right away. We booked this kind of at the last minute in the mid-level seating area. When we arrived, we were a bit skeptical, as it looks like it is located in an industrial park. That being said, we were very impressed with the entire experience!! The activities and vendors before the show starts are very impressive. Our seats were also great!! We were seating somewhat in the center of the middle tier seating, and we had an excellent view. The MC was very entertaining and engaging. The find a way for everyone to participate, if you want to. Our 11 year old daughter was completely in awe of the entire show, and ran up on stage when they asked for children volunteers. We loved all the different countries represented, and it is truly a very cultural experience. And of course, the food was great. I wish there was another option for dessert, since I'm not a big fan of coconut, but I was happy with a big tray of fresh pineapple. My husband and I both agreed that the buffet had some of the best pork we have ever had. My ONLY complaint - and this is no reflection of the venue or staff - is the number of cell phones up in the air recording. One guy at the table next to us had a tripod set up on the end of their table recording the entire show. Others in front of us were all trying to get photos and videos with their phones all throughout the beginning, and certainly at the end with the fire knife dancers. I often felt like I was watching through someone else's phone. I get that you want to show your friends at home, but put the devices down, people, and just enjoy the show!! I didn't take any photos during the show, just before during the cooking demonstration and afterwards with the dancers (who were ALL amazing!). Plenty of activities to do throughout the pre-dinner-time segment and a really solid performance put on as well. Loved the family-run aspect to it, made it feel more authentic! The buffet was extensive with some easy highlights: grilled pineapple, assorted noodle/pasta dishes, and a rice dish I got like 3x more helpings of. Not so good experience We booked this luau because of the great reviews. We also paid the additional fee to get picked up from our hotel. The original date we booked was postponed because of the rain. I called and they upgraded our tickets and booked us for a show a couple of days later. We changed our original plans in order to attend the luau. No bog deal. We understand things happen. We were excited about the luau! We were ready and waiting well before our drivers arrival time along with others who were attending. Our pick up time had passed and we had not heard from anyone about our driver being late. Our bus arrived a little over 20 min past pick up time. The driver got out of the bus and started calling our names. We sat on the bus awhile, waiting for other guests who had not arrived. At this point, we are over 30 minutes. Our driver got lost and we ended up getting stuck in major traffic. This is where everything goes from bad to worse. We were the last bus to arrive. We were greeted with a warm welcome by one of the staff members who assured us that we were not too late for the activities and that we would get the full experience (yay!). We would be able to do the activities and get our photos. Unfortunately, that is not what happened when we got off of the bus. The photo booth and the activities were all closed. We caught the end of a demonstration on how they cook the pig but I was unable to see it because I was way in the back. Too short to see anything. We were directed to our seats and dinner started shortly after. We tried the drinks that were included but ended up paying for the better drinks. They were well organized for the buffet lineup. The lines moved fairly quickly. The food was good and better than other buffets we tried. They give you an opportunity to get more food. I would recommend getting another plate as soon as you can. They have a vendor that sells cute souvenirs to take home. They also provided us with ponchos because it was raining off and on. We purchased the sweatshirts and loved them! The show is great! I like that they get the kids involved. It was nice to see the kids take pride in their performance. The kids get a 5 star review! It's a really good show. Everyone did a great job! They explained the history behind the different dances they did. They also incorporate a little humor. We really liked the show. After the show, we headed back to our bus. We did not know which bus to get in because our original driver was not there. We tried asking a couple of drivers for help but they looked at us and walked away. Another driver just ignored us. We eventually found our driver. I ended up chatting with an agent about the experience and they offered a small refund. I tried explaining that we had paid for a great experience filled with photos, activities and memories. We didn't get to enjoy the views and scenery arpynd the venue. It was my friends first luau and he was looking forward to the whole experience. Overall, the show was great but not sure if I would go back. read more

Un.be.live.able. This place was recommended to us by locals, GroupOn, Viator, and Yelp! We were looking for an authentic experience on our first visit to the island of Oahu and the Mauka Warriors' war cry stood out among the others. Celebrating life and cherishing the cukture that still remains here in the islands. We were so impressed and grateful for this Luau being so educational, entertaining, fun, and super inviting. If you feel alone at all during your trip, book tickets to this Luau and literally talk to anyone and you'll have a new friend! If you want to laugh but also want to learn, book this Luau! I can't speak highly enough of this experience. The women were so talented, the men were so committed, the children were so impressively good at spinning fire, my jaw had a hard time staying closed! Because of all the talent, pleasant conversations, and overall great vibes from the islanders and tourists, this MADE our Oahu experience unforgettable. This celebration also gave us great customer service with their hand-woven crowns, hats, baskets (that they make right in front of you like a Mongolian BBQ). Limited open bar. I say limited because depending on your package you can get more than enough alcohol for free, but you can also trade and get shave ice, mock-tails, or other family friendly non-alcoholic yet still intoxicating drinks! Not to mention the all you can eat Umu kitchen buffet, bottomless Kava, ALL YOU CAN DRINK! I can keep on going but I think I got my point across. Book this Luau. Add it to your trip. Make it happen.
