I used to really love this library, but unfortunately it no longer feels like the welcoming and safe place it once was. There is now a large homeless population essentially living inside, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for patrons trying to use the library's resources. On top of that, the staff's attitude toward Germantown citizens is discouraging. For example, I had an online test interrupted when a staff member came up to me and accused me of eating food (I was only chewing gum). She even went so far as to threaten to call the police over gum chewing, which was both shocking and unnecessary. I wish this library would refocus on being a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for the community. read more

Yes to books yes to babies learning to read books yes to all small and big checking out books or reading inside for some quiet time

This is such a huge library! There's a giant chessboard outside for kids to play with and a huuuuuge bookstore that sells discounted books for cheap. The biggest complaint I have seen in reviews is that it's loud, but there weren't any events going on when I was in there and it was really quiet. They were shorthanded when I was there so the biggest issue was checking out took a while (they don't seem to have self-check out). But that's fine. Everyone was friendly. If you have a Collierville library card you can get a restricted card here. You can't check out any of the rooms, use the computers, or use any of the databases (including online) buuuut you can check out their books. They have a nice selection so I was quite pleased. I love their manga section but am bummed the graphic novels are interspersed throughout it. It's easier when they're different sections but oh well. I look forward to coming here for things not in my library! read more

What an awesomely unexpected surprise it was walking into the Germantown library! I had signed up for one of the free classes they offer (Organizing your Kitchen, if you must know) but didn't realize which room it was in. So I walked in through the front gates and the first thing I saw was a painting class going on. It looked like such a massive amount of fun that I checked with a supervising librarians and she said it was open for adults too. Hearing that, I promptly sat down on a empty seat at the table, with a bunch of young kids, and made my own painted pot which after the paint dried out, was then filled with potting soil and planted with Marigold seeds. The free community class too was very useful although it's a pity there were so many empty seats. I really loved the services offered by the library and how friendly and helpful the librarians were, so definitely plan to come back and attend more event! Yelp Review: 15/2017 read more

Not all libraries are created equal! I love to read, and research and take my kids to the library. This is one of my favorites. It is a great resource as it offers various programs and activities. They have a fun story time for children and classes for adults. The firetruck in the children's area is a great place to sit with your child and read a book and the used book store always has some great finds. The small outdoor sitting area is a nice spot to enjoy a book in the fall and spring. read more

If you like to study, this is NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. It is loud, disruptive, and incredibly hard to focus while studying. I'm in school right now, so I need a place to study and work on things. It's loud at my house, which is why I come to the library. However, it's the same thing here. The staff however, is extremely nice. Which is why I'm giving this review two stars. It's extremely sad that I have to drive to another town and waste study time to try and find somewhere to focus. read more

My family loves this library. The building itself is designed modern. (Not too modern) The staff is helpful. One of the staff members put me onto their Teen Book Club. My kid loves it. She reads at least one book per day now. They really seem to enjoy her and the friends she brings along. They have weekly events that cater to kids/adults which is great for the family. They feature local art in the foyer and often kids art is displayed. All you have to do is sign up! A lot of great talent in Memphis btw. Private study rooms available to book. After school tutors are always here. ACT/SAT prep study groups also very prominent here. They also offer tech classes, language classes, even Twitter 101, and it's all free. This library in my opinion is highly underrated! Last thing, if you're interested teens can apply to volunteer (work) during the summer. Working at the library was my very first job. My family loves coming here looking for books. A lot of the time we stay at the library here for hours with our minds lost in the books.I take my four grandchildren who's ages are 11,7,6, and 2 to the Germantown library and the reason I like taking them here is because there is different sections for different ages of people for book.My kids and grandchildren are such good readers and I would like to thank the Germantown library for that and providing us for books. It's supposed to be a library. Not a playground or daycare center where children are crying and screaming. Oh, there's also people who play the guitar and sing here. This isn't The Voice. Don't come if you prefer the quiet. The only reason they get two stars is because their staff is kind and helpful. read more

This place is presented more like a playground/daycare than a library. People go to LIBRARIES to be in a QUIET environment in which to read and study BOOKS, NOT an indoor PLAYGROUND with screaming children where parents refuse to control and quiet their children. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 0 is because the staff is friendly and helpful every time I go there (far more than I can say for every other library I've visited). I also pity them, since I'm guessing they signed on to work at a library and instead the management has allowed it to turn into a childcare facility (though, I imagine even childcare workers are actually allowed to tell the kids to BE QUIET). read more

Loud. Not a refuge type library. No library voices or behaviors here. Not a good place to find some peace and quiet, study, get work done. Not much in the way of books either. More fiction books than anything. Not an enjoyable place for me. Libraries need to get back to being a place of quiet and calm since we lack that anymore in the day to day. read more

First, I'd like to respond to those who complained about the noise in this library. If you want quiet study there are study rooms you may use as long as you have a library card. I am a tutor and was told I can't use the study rooms because they would always be full if they allowed tutors to use them. However, I rarely see anyone in them so you should have no trouble getting one to study quietly. I was also told that this is not supposed to be a "quiet" library. I have found few in the area that are, even though their rules may say differently. Cell phone usage is just rude, though, and I think, isn't usually tolerated. In addition, I have never found this library to be "loud" in any way. Yes, some people are talking as they study but that is all I've heard - normal noise for a library in my opinion. If you sit near the children's section, you should expect some noise, I think, and not complain. I would have given this library four or five stars but I have been treated rudely, and spoken to like a child, twice now by some of the older women who work here. Each time it was to inform me of something I wasn't aware of (such as the policy to be out of the study rooms 15 minutes before closing time) and I was treated like I was committing some sort of serious infraction. In addition, they seem to always want to close early, not on time. Very unprofessional behavior. read more

I come here for the Friends of the Library Bookstore. The selection of books and DVDs are pretty good. Almost every time I go in there I buy something. The people behind the counter are volunteers and they are very helpful. Just FYI, when you buy books from the FoL Bookstore, you are giving money to the Germantown library. read more

We love this library! They do such a nice job with the kids' activities and they make it fun. My kids love the fire truck and are always excited to play with the Legos and pick out new books. We have spent many afternoons here and are always sad to leave and look forward to coming back. Also, while the collection is fabulous, they can't have everything. There was a book we wanted and asked about and they ended up ordering it. I am sure there is an internal approval process they go through, but my compliments on their follow up because they remembered and told me when it came in. Finally, if one of my kids is going through something and I want a book on a certain topic they are absolutely fabulous at researching and then suggesting titles. This is a wonderful part of the Germantown community. read more
