When I'm in London, the yoga always feels a little weird, not satisfying. I've shopped a lot of studio in LDN, and Heartcore in Notting Hill has been my favorite so far! It's absolutely adorable, well kept and well staffed. Front desk was incredibly welcoming and warm, and I loved Sarah's class! One of the best flows I've taken in awhile, even in LA. Very unique flow and I felt wonderful afterwards. Save yourself the run around and take class here!

Extremely disappointed!…read more I was visiting London from the States and I was so excited to find the power yoga company on yelp. It was just a few train stops away from my hotel. So I grabbed my ID, Oyster card, and some cash and ran out the door on my last day in London to take class. They don't take cash (didn't see that on their site and I'd been to a few sites that stressed they only take cash). I explained to the desk girl and a teacher that I didn't bring my cards and I was leaving London early tomorrow morning and was really looking forward to a class. They just kept repeating "sorry we don't take cash." Seriously? That was all they had to offer was "we don't take cash." I offered to pay the exact amount, just in case they don't have change - Nope. I suggested maybe I give one of them the cash and if they could buy class for me - NOPE. What great karma practice on their end - NOT! I'm a yoga teacher in DC at a very popular yoga studio. We often get visitors from other countries and other states, students who have forgotten wallets and didn't realize they were out of classes, students who really NEED some yoga or were looking forward to yoga that day. You know what we do? We let them in for free! It's really not that difficult. And I wasn't even asking for free yoga! I had money. Exact change and they refused to take it. They should review their best practice for rare situations like this. Because the way this was handled by two staff members was ridiculous. I considered going back with my card but why bother? They clearly do not have a Karma practice. And I can't believe that they are leading teacher training programs! Horrible!

Two of my visits have been on weekday evenings; the Flow and Restore was a Sunday evening, and I took 1 class on a Sunday morning at 8 AM (1st class of the day). I've enjoyed all the classes I've taken so far, and would definitely come back regularly. My favorite class has been the All Levels class, which I've attended twice. It definitely helps to have yoga experience beforehand, as this class goes pretty quickly and an explanation of what the poses are tends to be cursory but not super descriptive. I found that I got a very satisfying and sweaty workout from this class, and it was easy to adapt or make adjustments based on your personal level of practice. In contrast, the Level 1 class was definitely more suited for beginners, since the instructor made sure to describe and show each pose, and the class moved at a slower pace. All of the instructors I've had so far have been nice and good about making corrections in a constructive but unobtrusive way. Three of the classes I've taken have been in the downstairs studio, which is larger. The Level 1 class I took was in the upstairs studio, which was smaller. I believe that class also had a limited number of spots and the mats were all laid out for us when we arrived (in the downstairs studio you get and set up your mats/blocks yourself). The mats were really close together and I was always knocking into the person next to me, or the wall (I was at the end of a row of mats), which detracted from my experience a bit. I probably won't take the Level 1 class again, but I really liked the other classes I took in the downstairs studio. The changing rooms are nice and pretty clean; I think the floors are heated, which is nice. There are hooks from which to hang bags/coats but you leave your valuables at the front desk, where they give you a cubby # for when you come back to collect them. There is also 1 sink and a couple of showers in the ladies' changing room (can't speak for the men's). The changing rooms have fewer amenities than I've seen at the American studios I've been to, but they're definitely serviceable and welcoming (and I never used many of the amenities at my American studios anyway). Mats and blocks are provided, as well as washcloths and cleaning spray with which to wipe down the mats at the end of class. Even when attending class in the larger downstairs studio, I would recommend arriving early because the classes are pretty popular and floor space fills up fast. I usually arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled class time but I've never been the 1st one there. When attending the 8 AM Sunday morning class, the studio was open at 7:45, although the reception desk was unmanned for a few minutes after 7:45 since the staff was setting up. This is a great studio to practice at, with a good range of instructors. You can definitely get a good workout from the All Levels class or a good introduction from the Level 1 class.

When I checked in, the lovely girl at the desk knew it was my first time, took me for a quick tour explained how the classes work, told me a little about my trainer, facilities ect. It was really nice to go into a really top of the line gym filled with beautiful people and made to feel right at home where as it can otherwise be super intimidating. I did Accelerate which is a spin class. The bikes were top of the line, with digital monitors telling you exactly what intensity level you were on, rather than just guessing by turning the crank half a turn. I also liked that it kept calories and time. The room was dark, and the music was on point, was like working out in a club. Our instructor James, one of the head trainers was fantastic, the class flew by with tons of variation and was a killer, but in a good way. I also appreciated that he was thorough of little details (shoulders relaxed, heads up) because you can get a really sore neck from buckling down and scrunching all up in spin. My posture and core thanks you! It was completely full and its obvious why. Make sure to book early to ensure your place. The locker rooms are really nice, showers, hair dryers, full body towels if you do decide to shower there, and lockers with digital locks, so there is no worry about losing a key. Also you can order a protein shake ahead of time that will be ready for you at the desk post workout. The last thing I noticed and it seems silly, but it smelled so good in there, like a spa. I don't think I have ever described a gym as smelling good, and that is an almost impossible feat with everyone drenched in sweat. But, there you have it Core Collective, has ticked all the boxes.

So I decided to check out some of the Core classes after reading the reviews. Core is located in the back of a building and around the corner from Byron. Its a very upscale, modern facility. I took Velocity, Accelerate and Resistance. I spin a lot in Los Angeles and the spinning in London whether you go here or Psycle is just not like spinning in the US or aka Soul Cycle/Flywheel. Out of all the classes Accelerate was my least favorite as they didn't have clip in shoes. (only if you brought your own). You need your sneakers to strap in which I haven't done strapped in spinning in years. However the spinning style isn't as core focused as US spinning with a lot of hunching over the bike instead of holding your core up. However I thought both the Velocity and Resistance were both excellent classes. Loved the instructors as I had never taken classes like this and they explained all the moves patiently. They pushed you just enough but it wasn't like bootcamp where they are yelling at you. Very experienced, nice and professional. I esp liked Resistance as my class was only 5 people and intimate. I felt almost like I was getting a personal training session. Music was fantastic in both classes which makes the time fly by. The lockers are gorgeous as well as the showers. The cafe upstairs is very cute and sadly I wanted one day to sit there and eat or have a cup of coffee but didn't have time to do it. Also there is a Whole Foods near the tube station from Core that post workout I grabbed a smoothie and protein bar for the way home. Overall def recommend this place.

BYR is pro-eco-friendly, which I like - their carpet is created is recycled material, their heating system is low-energy, even the shower gels are organic! The studio is located above a row of shops, with a nice reception area and large, spacious changing rooms with three shower cubicles and cubby-holes for storage. There is also a communal hairdryer and a large fan which is great for taking away the summer (and post-Bikram) heat. The studios are big enough for the twelve or so people who attended. There are mirrors on two surfaces of the rectangular room, to check alignments and postures. Another aspect of the studio which I loved was the row of much-needed daylight at the back of the studio to counteract the stuffiness of the heat. I brought a tiny towel to my first class, and Kristin, the instructor, kindly offered me a complimentary bath towel, which spanned the entire yoga mat. (The mat is rentable for £1.) It was much needed, as I was sweating buckets by the time we got to the floor series. She also gladly told me that I was working on the exact same spot that Andy Murray was on a few months ago! The class started with a breathing exercise, which greatly helped me get through the entire 90 minutes without feeling faint. I love how the instructors are constantly speaking, giving us imagery non-stop, so that there isn't really time for us to get slack or unmotivated, as we are always receiving new information to work with. The class was no doubt challenging, but the focus of the whole group was great, and I went back for a second class the next day. The shower afterwards is probably the best part of the whole thing. There is a lot - A LOT - of sweating in Bikram Yoga, and I recommend first-timers to definitely come prepared with a change of clothes and underwear, and a towel. BYR's prices are reasonable, and they've got many packages and student deals on the website. I'm definitely going back some time soon! It'll probably be a lovely thing to do in winter.

I go along to 2-3 classes a week now and love everything about them; the friendly and welcoming attitude, the wonderful opportunity to practice outside in beautiful Finsbury Park and the excellent teaching. The indoor class at the Redmond Centre on a Monday night is close to home making it brilliantly convenient as an after work exercise option with not far to go after the class has finished!
