The name Jennie Wade comes from Mary Virginia Jennie Wade, supposedly the only civilian killed during the battle of Gettysburg by a stray bullet, though there is some controversy about whether or not that bullet was in fact stray or aimed. It's certainly nice enough, but as far as gift shops go in the Gettysburg area, really doesn't amount to all that much. Some souvenirs, baskets, jars of jelly, jams and a lot of whatnots. For most things, however, their prices are reasonable. I bought a cucumber dill salad dressing for about a dollar less than I saw in other places. The staff is super friendly and all of the items are uncluttered and well display.

We each bought one of their stunning Haitian metal art works, all the more pleased because part of the money goes to these amazing Haitian artists and the nonprofit that supports them. My selection is in the photo attached. They also have some gorgeous "candles" for those who must avoid candles because of the fragrance. These are beautifully designed glass containers to which you add what's necessary for them to burn as candles but with virtually no fragrance. To start, their prices are below what other places charge for commodities (though they might be going through an inventory reduction exercise, so your mileage varies). The owner took the time to explain to us how she processed the artwork. She speaks about the history of Gettysburg and the paintings with such passion. They're also at the center of town and near the transit station, so super easy to get to. I only wish they were bigger... though we were able to do about 3/4 of our shopping for this trip at this store.
