Gettysburg Heritage Center entrance.

The Wax Museum was one of the first Gettysburg museums I visited as a kid and while being informative it was time for a badly needed overhaul. The insides of the building have been gutted minus the theater. At the time of my visit admission was not charged due to the incomplete nature of the overhaul. Many of the exhibits are a work in progress and not yet complete. They have kept the old theater that includes a film "Three Days that Changed a Town." The film is rather informative and gives a good overview of the battle. It reminds me of the electric map that was contained in the old Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center. The wax figures are used to represent Pickets Charge. The gift shop was been also redone and still has a nice selection of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Even with the incomplete nature of the overhaul, some parts of the Heritage Center are better than the equivalents at the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center. I'll be interested to see what the admission price is when the Heritage Center is complete.

This is a nicely done center with a large gift shop. If you're older and into history, plan to spend an hour to two hours here. There's a decent sized museum display with different experiences- such as 3D pictures, immersion experiences such as a 15 minute video and a cellar experience. It's $9 for an adult ticket, $7 for children, under age 5 is free. It should definitely be a stop in your educational experience. The parking lot is in the back and is large. Start are friendly and the bathrooms are a decent size, clean.

The building's thoughtful design really sets the tone for a meaningful visit. They've done an outstanding job sharing the layered stories of the Battle of Gettysburg--why it happened, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on our nation. Their storytelling truly honors the sacrifices made, weaving history into every exhibit. Staff were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The interactive displays were a highlight--my kids especially loved the miniature cannon where they could "pull the trigger," and the realistic cannon shells you could actually lift to feel their weight. Super engaging! And please, Don't skip the Cyclorama. This massive 360° painting weighs a staggering 8 tons--4 tons of canvas and 4 tons of paint--and it's presented so vividly you feel like you're standing there in the middle of the battlefield. In short, the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center delivers history with clarity, compassion, and creativity. A truly unforgettable visit -- 5 stars all the way!

Also, they are prepared to handle bus loads of people at a time - these guys are pros! Fun fact: Only 5% of people pass the Gettysburg battlefield guide test -- these guys know their stuff! We went in our own one time, and went back with a guide and it was a way better experience. Highly recommend going with a proper guide to really understand Gettysburg!

Yelp disappointed me by removing my review despite me detailing my experience. It may have changed in the last 5 years, but the fact the business thinks it's okay to send rude messages about a years old review would make me discourage people from visiting and will report my findings from my personal expo as I see fit.

Admission is very inexpensive and this family-operated museum is incredibly impressive! Having had our share of Civil War history for two straight days, we chose to start with the lower level WW1 & WW2 exhibits. I was absolutely blown away by the volume of incredible artifacts the museum possesses! MacAuthur's pipes & aviators. Jimmy Stewart's uniform. World War 1 trench art made form spent artillery casings. A real "blue max", the exhibit is incredibly rich! The grandfather of the young man operating the museum these days collected as many WW2 artifacts as he could while growing up during/after the war, eventually serving in Korea himself, and opening this museum about 1963. After spending about 45-minutes on the lower level, we took in the Civil War exhibit on the top level. I was struck most by collection of Civil War reunion ribbons from the late 19th century. I hadn't seen these artifacts before. I would say this is a "must visit" destination for any serious military history buff. You will be impressed. Not your standard government-operated museum, but has an incredible and unique collection.
