    Bullet holes

So thankful we stopped in before we went home this morning and attended the first tour of the day. This was such a tragedy in an already horrific battle. It's amazing to see the original doors from the civil war still on the house with the bullet holes as well as the other bullet holes in the house itself. Lots of items to choose from in the gift shop. The tour was very informative and we would definitely return for ghost hunts but didn't make it this trip.

Loved visiting the Jennie Wade house. Our guide was absolutely amazing. She knew everything about Jennie and the house. You could envision every moment of the event. It was so fascinating. If you visit Gettysburg Address this to your list of must sees.

Jennie Wade museum is a great self tour . I'n the beginning they go over a briefing of Jenny and allow you to tour on your own. There is a night tour of Jenny Wade that is really good.

I went to the Jennie Wade House as part of a ghost tour, so although we did get to see everything and get a good background, it's definitely a bucket list item to go back for the history. The house itself is very interesting, the ghost tour was from the basement to the upper floor. It's very clean, very well curated and period appropriate. As for the paranormal, there was an incident involving a flip phone calling a call repair station and somehow ending up on speaker phone. No matter how much fiddling and downright abuse the phone took, we couldn't make it replicate the call.

I meet my personal guide tour at Jennie Wade house. The reason why I meet him here because he want to show me what the beginning of the war was. Jennie is only a civilian that got killed during the war. She is very breve and she is a hero, cooking and feed unions soldier during civil war. Her house now is a museum and store to Horner her brave and for the people to learn about how many people who sacrifice before American become united.

One of the BEST tours of a home I have EVER taken! Our tour guide Allie was absolutely AMAZING!!!! She had an infectious energy and a wealth of knowledge. I wish we did the full guided tour with her because her love for Jennie and the home is felt wholeheartedly. The ability to stand and photograph such a pivotal moment of the Civil War was truly an experience!

I thought my trip to the Jennie Wade House was so interesting and 100% would recommend it to anyone looking to do a tour in Gettysburg. Due to Covid, they didn't have a guided tour (I think normally it would be) but I had my mom as my know-it-all tour guide, otherwise I probably would have missed a lot of the smaller nuances of the house you normally wouldn't notice. For example, the photo I attached to this review: there are framed photographs of Jennie, and her two hometown friends, who had gone off to fight in the war. They all had died right around the same time as each other and none of them ever found out their friend had died. I'm sure there is a lot more that could be learned if you go when they have the guided tour again. I also learned when she died, they buried her with the dough and flour still on her hands. I found this tour really fascinating and a must go.

    The addicting black raspberry jam

This review is solely for the food at the gift shop. My uncle made a trip here before coming out to Philly for a wedding and brought everyone a little souvenir. I chose the black raspberry jam and went on my way. When I got home I decided to make a pb&j sandwich using that jam and it was delicious! It was so fresh, just sweet enough and spread perfectly. We're eating it sparingly since we don't know when or if we'll be able to get it again anytime soon!

Absolutely love the Jennie Wade house. A had a tour guide by the name of star. If you go there try and get in her group. She made it not just a great learning experience but fun. This house is an amazing part of history. If your in Gettysburg I highly recommend going and checking it out.

Jennie Wade House - Gettysburg, PA

In our many visits to Gettysburg, my wife and I had never toured the Jennie Wade House. It had been probably 25 years since I was there as a kid. So on a recent outing, we decided that it was something new for us to do. We weren't disappointed. The tour, which starts in the adjacent gift shop, encompasses approximately a 45 minute walk of the home. The small house consists of eight rooms, including the cellar. Our tour guide, Sarah, did a wonderful job of sharing the many stories that revolve around Jennie Wade, a 20-year old woman living in Gettysburg who was the only civilian killed during the battle. Her life was tragically ended by a stray Confederate bullet on the third day of the battle. Without giving too much detail away, there are numerous stories that are shared about Jennie, including why she was at the house that was owned by her sister Georgia. There are many interesting artifacts that are found inside the house, though some of the furnishings are replicas. These reproductions don't take away from the quality of the information presented, and hopefully, your tour guide will point out the authentic pieces in the home. Given the length of the tour and the many fun facts that can be learned about life in the Civil War era, this would be a fun way to impart kids with some knowledge and unique tidbits about living in that time period. The one negative point that I'd emphasize is that if your tour group is large (ours included 11 people), you may be challenged in finding time to look at everything and taking a few photos. The management doesn't want people exploring the rooms on their own, and as someone who likes to take more than a quick glance at artifacts and accompanying documentation, I found this to be a bit restrictive on the experience. However, as a tour that doesn't strictly focus on the battle, it's definitely provides an interesting perspective on living in 1863. The tour tickets were $9 each for adults, but if you have AAA, they are $8.10 each. The tour guide was very forthcoming about the availability of this discount. If you are a first time visitor to Gettysburg or haven't been to the Jennie Wade house in years, make sure to stop by for some great stories.

The building's thoughtful design really sets the tone for a meaningful visit. They've done an outstanding job sharing the layered stories of the Battle of Gettysburg--why it happened, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on our nation. Their storytelling truly honors the sacrifices made, weaving history into every exhibit. Staff were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The interactive displays were a highlight--my kids especially loved the miniature cannon where they could "pull the trigger," and the realistic cannon shells you could actually lift to feel their weight. Super engaging! And please, Don't skip the Cyclorama. This massive 360° painting weighs a staggering 8 tons--4 tons of canvas and 4 tons of paint--and it's presented so vividly you feel like you're standing there in the middle of the battlefield. In short, the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center delivers history with clarity, compassion, and creativity. A truly unforgettable visit -- 5 stars all the way!

Admission is very inexpensive and this family-operated museum is incredibly impressive! Having had our share of Civil War history for two straight days, we chose to start with the lower level WW1 & WW2 exhibits. I was absolutely blown away by the volume of incredible artifacts the museum possesses! MacAuthur's pipes & aviators. Jimmy Stewart's uniform. World War 1 trench art made form spent artillery casings. A real "blue max", the exhibit is incredibly rich! The grandfather of the young man operating the museum these days collected as many WW2 artifacts as he could while growing up during/after the war, eventually serving in Korea himself, and opening this museum about 1963. After spending about 45-minutes on the lower level, we took in the Civil War exhibit on the top level. I was struck most by collection of Civil War reunion ribbons from the late 19th century. I hadn't seen these artifacts before. I would say this is a "must visit" destination for any serious military history buff. You will be impressed. Not your standard government-operated museum, but has an incredible and unique collection.

After hearing that the location played a major part of the battle at Gettysburg, it was interesting to visit and tour the site. Located on a small hill viewing the village and surrounding farmland, it is easy to tell that the sharpshooters had a great view of the armies as they passed through. The building has four floors and a cupola that was a great lookout for the Confederate Army. There is a parking lot located behind the museum, as well as one across the street farther away from the entrance located in the back. We visited in June, well before the high summer season for tourists, and it was sparsely attended. The receptionist warned me about a malfunctioning elevator - making my visit more difficult due to the stairs I needed to descend. Hope it works when you visit! Narration in the rooms was all right, but the hallway narration was hard to hear and difficult to match up with the display. I was expecting much more content on the hospital and care of the wounded than just one floor. If we didn't have a ticket for this already included in our purchase I would have been happy with the official NPS tours. Not sure I would recommend.
