Geyser Park was one of the most fun and unexpected stops on our Idaho road trip! If you're driving through Soda Springs, I highly recommend timing your visit for the top of the hour so you can watch the famous geyser erupt. We arrived just as the clock struck 4:00 p.m. and barely made it in time--it was the perfect welcome! Watching the geyser shoot high into the air was impressive, but what really surprised me was learning that it's the world's only captive geyser. Knowing it was accidentally created in 1937 while workers were drilling for hot water makes the story even more fascinating. The fact that it now erupts every hour on the hour makes it easy to plan your visit. One detail I almost overlooked was the incredible mineral buildup around the geyser. The railings and boardwalk are coated with thick mineral deposits that look soft and fuzzy from a distance, but they're actually rock hard. It's amazing to see how years of mineral-rich water have slowly transformed the area into something that almost looks otherworldly. The park is clean, well maintained, and completely free to visit. It's a quick stop, but it's packed with history, geology, and a genuinely unique experience you won't find anywhere else. Oregon Trail travelers, Oregon Trail computer game players, you made it to a soda spring in Soda Springs. There is parking for 7 RVs and many cars. We luckies arrived at 10:55-just in time for the hourly spray! The geyser erupted for about ten minutes--sulphuric smells, oh my--but was neat, with little viewing niches off the walkway. If you get a space here, you too may get sulphuric mist getting on you. Yes, the sidewalk is a bit wet from those eruptions, and minerals crust the walkways and eruption area. So pull over in this unique spot. The cemetery behind the park was unaffected but the eruption. For the living there are public bathrooms on the way out of the park in case that ten-minute water spray inspires the need. read more

This is a free attraction for everyone to enjoy. The geyser is on an automatic timer which goes off exactly every hour and stays on for a few minutes. Based on my cell phones time it was a minute late of that mark. There's a huge parking lot behind the street side businesses, and yes, it's free to park. There's a viewing platform but you can easily see the water shoot from your car if it's raining or just incredibly hot. You can't see this place from the main road so follow a map. read more

This is my second geyser review, as I've been to Yellowstone's Old Faithful https://www.yelp.com/biz/old-faithful-yellowstone-national-park-2?hrid=tG-qgfyph67s36jR3d_Enw a couple of years ago. Soda Springs is manmade but that doesn't make it any less impressive. I arrived and parked at about 3:20 pm and learned that the geyser goes off on the hour, so after seeing the sign that indicates the water could cause water spots on cars, I moved the van and then did some wandering around the immediate vicinity to kill a half hour. There's not much to see. In early June, the bathrooms were closed. There's a train nearby and a public library. Returning at 10 minutes before the hour in case it was early, I spent the time reading the captions and learning about the history of the area, the geyser itself and the Ninety Percent Spring that is no longer. The spring was a little bit late (or my watch is slow), starting at three minutes past the hour and continuing at full blast for a full six or so minutes before petering out. That's plenty of time to see the geyser from multiple angles, take pictures and appreciate the engineering that goes in to making this thing happen. Geyser is a lot of fun to see and erupts every hour on the hour. The town accidentally hit this pressurized cold soda water pocket while drilling for water and it erupted for days flooding the town. Since then, they capped it and now let it erupt hourly, so it's more regular than Old Faithful! Also interesting is that the water is cold, which is unusual for geysers. The Enders Hotel built immediately next to Geyser Park was built to house the hordes of tourists that never materialized and is a lot of fun to visit or stay at! read more

Pretty cool for a man made geyser .. apparently those that were drilling for hot springs ie become another Lava Hot Springs which is 22 miles from here. But water didn't meet the mineral requirements they wanted so they put a timered valve on it and walla a man made geyser read more

Maybe because I had no expectations, I thought this place was just wonderful. The historical information was hilarious. The idea of a guy looking to create the next natural springs resort and instead nearly wiping out the town is just awesome. It was doubly fun that the water is cool and that if you stand in the right section of the walkway you'll get soaked. The fact that White explorers were so desperate for beer that they drank this water and declared it a good substitute, that still has me giggling. A smile inducing way to break up a long drive. read more

Not sure what to say about the geyser that serves as one of the tourist attractions in the small town of Soda Springs. It was created in 1937 when people were drilling for hot water to form a swimming pool. The drill hit a hot water pocket that sent water spewing out. This water is not sweet smelling (note the name of the town) and got hard water deposits all over buildings in town, so they had to cap it off. It has been turned into a tourist attraction by a timed valve that releases the water every hour on the hour. It is billed as the world's largest MAN MADE geyser. Perhaps you could bring your unsuspecting girlfriend here and time a kiss for the eruption, adding cinematic effect to what would normally be an everyday event. read more

Soda Springs Geyser, which is man-made rather than natural, is nowadays triggered by a timer to activate the eruption every top of the hour. However, if winds are too powerful to send geyser plumes into streets, the geyser will stay off. If you want to go see this geyser, I recommend that you arrive at Geyser Park (where the geyser is) no less than five minutes before the top of the hour. Overall, I have to say that this is a very good and pretty cool geyser, worthy of photographs (Bring your cameras!). However, the best geysers, from my point of view, can be found in Yellowstone National Park in neighboring Wyoming, which includes the iconic Old Faithful. read more

First it helps to lower expectations, this is not a Yellowstone Geyser... it is not even natural. it is man made. But still it is a nice little park in the Soda Springs area. It has some interpretive signs and a nice boardwalk. Great for kids and certainly worth 10 minutes of your time. read more
