Trash collection on a regular basis is either days late or not at all. They expect the monthly bill, which always increases to be paid on time even though they don't provide a service for which they charge. I would give them zero stars if I could Our business was very happy with our previous service. GFL has taken over our contract and we are unable to cancel without paying them a "liquidated damages" fee, which is pretty substantial. Our options are to wait until the contract ends (another 2 years) and continue to pay about $200 per month more than their competitors or write them a large check to terminate our contract. If you are planning to do business with GFL, do your research to make sure you are given a fair and competitive price. If you are already in a contract, make sure you know when you need to cancel if you would want to save some money!! read more

We were a Duncan Disposal customer in Chelsea, MI for year and stayed with GFL after the buyout. We just cancelled our GFL services. Between the missed pickups and charging us for recycling that they were just putting in with the trash, we cancelled. Customer service is impossible to get on the phone, and they have a nasty attitude (Diane...talking about you!) when you do. We were expecting a refund for services not provided but instead got a bill for unknown charges. Literally, the bill had no description for the charges. Since I couldn't get anyone on the phone, the bill went to collections. At this point I'm paying the f-ing bill just to make GFL go away. Not a high level of service. I have been trying to get a replacement for my broken trash cart for 5 weeks. Meanwhile, I make my payments for their service, however I'm unable to use the trash cart because whenever it rains it fills with water. I have contacted this company but I can't reach a person. I have let my property manager know that this needs to be replaced. I have let the actual garbage collectors know that I need it replaced and still no replacement trash cart has been issued. read more

It does not matter how long you are a customer. I have been a customer for 30 plus years and pay $135.00 every 3 months. My friend is a customer of 14 years and she pays $86.00. We both have 2 totes and she even has a recycle tote. She lives on peninsula and i live in East Bay township right down the road from GFL. Customer service can't help. They say it's a corporation out of Canada and they cannot do anything about price. Really sad! Price increase continues to go up quarterly. Customer service says now it will be only yearly! They came in without customers being properly notified and took over the customer list of the previous company. Not only does this indicate a willingness to buy/sell/trade customers' personal information, it also left several customers with trash sitting by the curb while the companies in question did their essentially hidden transaction. Since then, the company Green For Life Environmental has been continuously difficult to work with. They began their service by not picking up trash consistently. Then they decided to change our pickup day WITHOUT NOTICE. When requesting that they send someone out to collect due to THEIR error, we were told no, and that someone would be out the next week. This leaves unsanitary trash available for wildlife to spread around the community. They also came in and completely changed all customers' payment method to 3 months at a time - we are low income and just getting out of pandemic restrictions and assistance, and we were making monthly payments to our original company. The 3 month bulk payment should NOT be enforced on customers. Once again, they cut our service for a late payment, and sent a notice stating that once payment was made service would be resumed. I posted the payment 08/23/2023 before noon - meaning they should have picked up TODAY 08/24/2023 as promised. I sent a message because the trash is still sitting out there and received this as a response: "We have received your request and are happy to assist you. After reviewing your account, it appears the reason that you were not serviced was because the account was in suspension for nonpayment. We did receive your payment through your my account on 08/24/2023. We will not be able to return to recover your service because of this reason. We will service all trash for you on your next service day. Thank you for contacting GFL Environmental." Not only is this leaving our community now open to trash but it's going to force their workers to deal with rotting garbage that has been infested by flies and maggots. Meaning the company doesn't care for their employees either. Do NOT use them. They are full of scam tactics and love to get your money without doing any work promised. read more

We have been using GFL since they took over the Duncan business. We were very happy with the service for a long time but in the past 4-6 weeks (now 8/3/21), they have been a day or two late with garbage and recycling pickup. We may have to consider ditching this company. Either they don't have enough workers or their business has grown bigger than they can handle. I thought they were one of the more considerate collection services... they don't throw the trash receptacles or leave them on their sides or in the middle of the street. This company deserves a -5 rating in my book. I just switched to them for a first pick-up on Wed, 7/19/23. They missed picking up my trash. I called them every day from 7/19-7/25 & received all kinds of excuses & promises that the truck was still out & would pick up my trash that day, I would be added to the missed delivery list. etc. My trash was still sitting in front of the house as of 5PM, 7/25/23. My next pickup was scheduled for 7/26/23. Again, they missed picking up my trash. I called them again on 7/26 & spoke to a lady who claimed to be a floor supervisor named Eve. She advised that she would speak to the manager in the trash collection department & call me back. It's 7/28 & she has not called back yet. I left them a really clear message yesterday that I was very unhappy with this. No response. Today, I called again. All they offered was to add me to the missed pickup list and have a manager call me within 24 hours. Eve is off today. 2+ weeks of trash is still sitting in front of my house. it's Monday morning after my scheduled pick-up on Friday (which didn't happen). On Friday, I called the office in early afternoon & was told the truck hadn't made it to my neighborhood yet. Around 4pm, a neighbor told me the truck had broken down & she'd been told the pickup would be done on Monday. On Monday, I called starting @ 9:30. After one hang up & holding for a total of 40 minute, I was told a work order could be submitted & it could take up to 72 hours before a truck came out. 72 hours Will be the day before the next scheduled pickup. Nothing was mentioned about a truck break down & no apology was offered. After hanging up, I found out my neighbo's trash was picked up this morning (we live across the street from each other, you'd think they'd notice their company's trashcan at the curb. I switched garbage disposal companies long ago due to GFL Environmental's interesting billing practices. Over the course of two years, the cost of service nearly doubled. On top of that, I'm still being hampered by the company. Their trucks constantly leak hydraulic fluid all over our neighborhood streets. The same streets my kid and dogs walk on. They Do Not Care About Customer Service or Customer Retention. After several price increases, we found a more reasonable local residential trash service. I emailed to cancel our service with GFL Environmental and received a response from a Customer Service Rep that started very nice. The CS Rep stated that our service had been cancelled effective the date paid through our last invoice. HOWEVER, the Rep's email went on to say that I would be charged a $50 fee for them to pick up their trash bins. I was astounded and found this to be totally unreasonable. I have not been charged such a fee to return any leased or used equipment to any other service provider such as DishTV, Verizon, etc. I asked to be provided with terms and conditions of my specific agreement with GFL that shows where such a fee can be assessed; no response to this request. I asked for the name and email address of a customer service manager with whom I could engage over this matter; the CS Rep responded that he could not give me that info and asked for my cell number, which I gave him. I was told that I should receive a call within 24 hours. Well, that was a week ago and no call from a supervisor. I also sent a separate email to a regional vice president; of course I've received no response. And, the trash bins still have not been picked up. Looking at various review websites, GFL rates very poorly from both the customer perspective and the overall corporate perspective. I predict that they will continue to lose more and more customers and see an impact on their financial revenues and profit if they continue to operate in this manner. Do not sign up with them. If I could rate GFL Environmental a "0", I would. Even though we pay our bill in most cases the same day it is received, GFL's incompetent A/R team who is working from home does not process it. This has resulted in our account being placed on credit hold, and being turned over to a collection agency. As a side note....our credit score is extremely important to us and is currently well over a rating of 800. Sending our account into collection when it is current is both insulting and illogical! When GFL's Customer Service team was contacted, they were defensive and just plain rude. We constantly pay our bills with this company before time so, I would like the same promptness when it comes to needing something. I've been reporting for a month now about a damaged can, I shouldn't have to call every week requesting someone to replace it. Every-time I call I get, they will be out, we don't know what happened or they came by and the can was not at curb side... I have cameras, no one came by my home. I've been a customer and stuck it out since it was Town and Country, and even thru WCA. Ben Seiferman is the GM for the Kansas City, MO area. Any time I've asked for my complaint/inquiry to go up the chain, the Harrisonville customer service ladies have interrupted me, spoke over me, are rude and refuse to move my inquiry/complaint above them. Jennie, the office manager for Harrisonville, MO just repeats herself. Everyone I have spoke to had any intention to rectify or apologize, or just simply be nice. But with GFL, I'm recommending to everyone I come into contact with to NOT use this company for service...EVER! They lie, they charge national gasoline fees and not base their gasoline fees on local or state. They do not always pick up and miss service, the ladies that answer the customer service phone calls are ALWAYS rude, no matter what question you may ask. Totally disappointed with this company and have since cancelled my service. I had paid for the month of June and was assured that i would be able to keep my trash/recycling bin until the first week of July. They picked up my trash bins last Friday, June 9th, 2023 without notice or confirmation. I called today, June , 2023 and asked if they were in fact the ones who collected my bins. Which they did, but now refuse to credit me the remainder of the $52.27 I already paid for the month of June, without full service. This company is horrible to their customers. No doubt about it. Absolute worst customer service, I used to have curbside waste and they switched over to this company. I was kept on hold for 1 hr, called back and left my number for a customer rep to call me back, to ask a question about pick up, it's now 6:18 PM I left my number at 12 PM. You cannot ever get a live person, it's the same automated voice and if you do get someone in Michigan, who offers to transfer you to the Atlanta office, you can forget about having someone contact you back. Also forget about trying to get an actual email address to email them, unless it's on their site, their Youtube page is not updated with comments turned off, I wonder why? they need to step their game up, as they are not the only trash service. Per their website I sent a written complaint and when I was finally able to reach a human to cancel service they refused to refund my payment even though they did not honor their policy. I finally cancelled service after a year of spotty pickup at best, and 30-40 minute hold times calling customer service, in order to get the company to do the service I paid for. I finally cancelled and my fault for being a good paying customer but left me with a credit on the account over over $100. For the last 3 months I have called only to be told it was processing, they only mail refunds on the 15th of the month and other nonsense. To day 90 days later I'm told no idea why the refund request has not been completed. At this point I am beyond frustrated. AWFUL with a capital "A" These clowns have a contract with the city of Novi - who must be on drugs to hire them. I put my garbage out Sunday nite as usual. Monday morning, it's still there. I think to myself, "Well, they screwed up 4th of July, so maybe it's the same dope in charge." Tuesday - still there. I first fill out the form online as they suggest. A little later, I call GFL, "Oh, we'll take care of it right away - and I'll call you to make sure it's picked up." (Yeah...right...and I have a bridge I'd like to sell you). Wednesday - still there. My wife calls GFL again, spoke with Darryl. "Oh, it was a mistake and we'll have it picked up today." (any bets?) Thursday - still there. I call the City of Novi - spoke with the services dept. At first, she wants ME to call GFL. "No..YOU guys signed the contract...YOU get it picked up." Then they tell me, "Oh, be sure to call US FIRST from now on if you have a problem." Yeah...right. Because city workers are always my FIRST choice to get something done pronto. It's the same reason national health care will work SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well. Friday - still there. I call the City of Novi manager's office and talk to his assistant. "This is my last call, because I'm about to make you guys FAMOUS." "Oh, I'll send out emails to all of our GFL reps," he says. "Sure, and be sure to copy me on those emails, because when I show up at the next city meeting and want the contract cancelled, I want to know who received these notices and DID NOTHING," I tell him. They continue to raise our price every month and we cannot get out of the contract. Horrible service. When they took over from my old service I received letters in the mail stating I did not need to do anything, everything rolled over from my previous service. This was incredibly untrue! They cancelled my auto pay when they took over and did not inform me. I did not know it was not paying every month until 2 weeks went by and they did not pick up my trash or recycling. My paper bills state I owe the normal monthly amount for the month of December but when I log into my account online it says I owe over $350!!!
