We thought it looked like a very cool place to eat and drink. They allow kids which was a plus. The service was horrible the menu said to ask your waiter about the beer flights. We did and the waiter had no idea what beers it came with. But he did tell us it was three cans so we got it anyways. The food wasn't the greatest either. Very expensive too. The ambiance was actually really nice and feeling fancy even though no one in there was dressed fancy. They had outdoor seating as well.

Came for the Ceilidh dancing in the big upper hall (£7, 9:30-11:30pm, Fri/Sat), and was lots of fun. A good amount of beginners and first-timers made easier to try this dance. Dance instructions at the beginning of each thing could have been better, was my only complaint. There's a bar up there and there's even a set dinner menu if you call to reserve that starts at 7:30pm. Bathrooms: Down in the basement. Lots of stalls and mostly clean.

Great pub food, great service, very cool ambience. Glad we found this place! Seems to be quite popular...I think we got lucky, but call for a reservation. A great place to eat and be merry! Thank you to Marta!

The atmosphere was nice, with live music (a bit too load). Maybe expectations were too high, as the facade is remarquable. The interior is not so special, even food and drinks are very okay, and staff too. The menu offers standard pub food (fish and ships, pies...) and the public is not only made of tourists but also of families.

We were there because of a wine tasting event and it was one of a kind. The coordinator for the Wine with a View event was Nikki from Convivium wine. The establishment is very old, mystic and therefore intriguing for somebody who likes the old. You needed to go up a spiral staircase to reach the first floor landing. There we entered a hall which had the interior features of a church. Lovely layout. Over 60 bottles made their way into the "wine with a view " selection. You got it all. Sparkling champagne, prosecco, whisky, port, cocktails, the red and the white wine selection. Prices ranged from a tenner up to hundreds..... Make a pick and buy what you fancy. If you leave a star on a bottle you indicate what you fancy and might have gotten a bit more to taste. NIKKI is arranging these types of events at least ones a month and the canapes that come with it are amazing. They really bring out the taste of either the red or the white wine. Can't wait for another wine tube map event at the Bon Vivant Companion.

I had a voucher for 2 brunches for £7 instead of £14. We called ahead and booked a table and got the cutest wee booth with a little hatch to the bar which we got drinks passed through. I really like the feel of the place. I have been to events upstairs but this was my first experience of the public bar. We have friends in the USA who are planning a trip to Scotland and this is definitely somewhere we will be bringing them. It is full of charm and decent food and surroundings. I had the veggie breakfast which had veggie haggis, beans, potato scone, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, fried bread and toast. My husband had a regular Scottish breakfast which had haggis and bacon too. The latte was very smooth and had a little design in the foam on top. I really liked it here and I will certainly be back. Make sure your not in a rush as not the quickest but very tasty.

The place hasn't been open very long, but I think it's going to be around for a while if it carries on the way it's been going! It's unashamedly Scottish but not in a tacky way: they promise "hearty scottish fare" and "premium drams", and yet rather than being a cheap tourist trap this place still retains an upmarket feel. Which brings me to my one grumble: the price. With such a great location just at the west end of Princes Street, and offering service to such a high standard, inevitably the drinks aren't cheap. But it's definitely worth it; this has fast become one of my favourite drinking spots in the city centre.

We were anxious to only eat authentic British/Scotish foods while visiting Edinburgh. At one time, fish and chips were as popular as hamburgers in the USA .So I figured with limited time/meals at our disposal, go for the best. I asked a Scotish tour guide for her recommendation and she said "Ghillie Dhu." After eating here, I suspect a payoff was involved...

    Huge spot. Huuuuge, mate.

Huge. This fukin spot is huge. And all glam'd out. You have to stop in here to grab a pint and just soak in the ambiance. Huge.

As someone who truly loved little about Scotch, it was a wonderful way to taste and compare smoky vs peaty whiskeys. Fun. Our table was upstairs and we sat next to an open door which allows for fresh cool air. It was a warm day in Edinburgh. Our server was wonderful, patient and really helpful. Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. The side of asparagus was also excellent. The mouse dessert was delicious but very rich, it's enough for 4 people. The cost of dinner was also totally reasonable. I recommend this place highly.

When we arrived at noon (opening time), the restaurant wasn't too busy. There is an impressive bar downstairs with many whiskies. We were led upstairs to the dining area. There is outdoor dining too that would be nice if the weather was warmer. Cool vibe, but it is kind of dark inside the stone walls. The menu is Scottish-focused with seasonal ingredients. We didn't want to overeat, so we decided to share a starter and a main. We got the Scottish venison fritters, which were ok. We enjoyed the pappardelle pasta (roast pumpkin and pecorino sauce, wild mushrooms, spinach, bacon and poppy seed crumb, crispy sage). It was flavorful and didn't feel too heavy. Staff were friendly and it was an enjoyable lunch.

Today when the Red route took us to old town and I saw The White Hart Inn I said to Jan let's do an early dinner there and she agreed. We continued the route and stayed on back to the stop in old town. We love Alfresco dining but it was too cold and windy today. We went inside and the restrauant was packed. It's open seating. No hostess, no sign in. We were lucky and just happened to be standing next to a table that opened. We had been there about 5 minutes. The restaurant/ pub is rich in history, established in 1516. It's small with limited bar seating and prehaps 8 to 10 tables. It is noisy from conversation, tosting and music, but we didn't have a hard time communicating. It has a great vibe. It's a fun venue and popular with the locals. The menu is not large and has several Scottish offerings. To start, Jan was cold and wanted an Irish coffee. I ordered an Innis and Gunn larger. Innis & Gunn is an acclaimed Scottish brewery founded in 2003 in Edinburgh. It had a slightly citrus flavor. Jan ordered muscles and I ordered the steak and ale pie, served with a charred Hispi cabbage wedge, buttered mash and Merlot beef dripping gravy. It was very tasty, very robust flavor. I loved the cabbage; great flavor. I had to look up hispi cabbage and it is a variety of green cabbage. The muscles were good and the broth very nice. We had a lovely time and a good meal. I mean who doesn't love a good pub? You get great drinks and great food at an affordable price. As I write it makes me think of think of when Zidane reunites with Freya in FF9. Sometimes we don't wanna eat at fancy Michelin restaurant that has small plates but charges a premium. Sometimes we just wanna cut all the BS and just get a nice hearty meal. And thats what we got. When we sat down we found out that they were doing a Trivia night. Normally I would have told my girl to pick another spot to eat but for some reason I was cool with it. There was even a table nearby with kids(yuck). And you know what? It was fine. That's because we had been sipping on some amazing cocktails. If you also partake, Gin and Mezcal enjoyers will love the Bramble and Hibiscus Crush. What color are Luigi's overalls from Super Mario? That's such an easy question. Wait...what do you mean Luigi's overalls are blue? They are green. Look at this picture onli...Oh... One of the stars of our meal was the Haggis. This was the first time I had ever tried it and after trying it at multiple places Scotland, Queens Arms I feel has done it the best. I love the complexity of the flavors of the meat with the creamy and pepper flavors of the peppercorn sauce. If you've never had Haggis, you definitely have to try it here. The best part is that it comes with mashed potatoes too! Shoutouts to the Fish and Chips if you are also into that. One of my friends ordered that and I definitely had to go back in for multiple bites. Finally the roast. The Sunday Roast should just be an automatic order if you happen to come here on a Sunday. You get so much food and it's all so damn tasty. They'll cook a roast to whatever doneness your heart desires. We went with Medium Rare and it came out perfectly. If you didn't have enough flavors with all the extra sides it comes with, they also give you gravy to pour on anything you want. Thanksgiving basically came early this night. But as I looked around and admired all the bookshelf's and all the families have a nice dinner with their loved ones, I just thought about how happy I was. I was finally here! This was the start of my trip. Queens Arms has set a high ceiling on great experiences in Scotland. We even went back there a couple of days ago just because we knew we would be able to end the night on a good drink. But in the end I think if you are Edinburgh, you have to come to this place. It is one of my favorite experiences I've had in Scotland so far and I dream about when I can come back again.
