The physical unit is more or less fine. The electronics do not stand upp to weather in the PNW at all. VERY UNDEPENDABLE! I have had it with the horrible customer service this company provides - or more correctly chooses not to provide. If you are on the west coast, their hours of service are inconvenient at best. And when you do get them, tell them the symptoms of the problem and ask for help, their snotty response is to read back to you what is already online... really?! NOT HELPFUL! I am left with buying another really expensive unit that is at least 2x their competitor or buy the competitor. Why? Because their service people are incompetent. They should be ashamed of their service and the lack of durability of their product. Pay the price and hire a technician, not a receptionist to answer technical support calls please. Should've read the reviews first. Ghost customer service tries - the firs time they walked me through a reset - which didn't last. Called the other day and was told three (3) times the gate control is NOT to confine dogs as it may open at any time. Most days it closes and after a few seconds reopens out about three feet. Click it and then it usually closes and stays closed - except today. After a dozen attempts, my wife shut it down and disconnected the control arm and bungie tied the gat closed. Just got a bid for installing a Lift Master of which we should've done from the onset. Beware - if you have animals, this opener is NOT for you. Again, three times the rep said these controls are NOT for animal containment. They should state that on their website. A real POS system We started with GTO and had nothing but problems so we went to Nice - Apollo which was equally unreliable and now the infamous Ghost - the soul of a dead person, a disembodied spirit imagined, usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons... read more

Extremely poor management, customer service, and product. I would stay away from this company's product. Look everywhere for reviews before placing an order. They are known to refuse to ship once they have accepted payment. You can't just assume it's coming when purchased. Be ready to have to spend days in contact with them to get any news of shipping. Gate installed on Property in Grass Valley, CA is Dangerous. It closes on Vehicles & people. Beware Renting a home with this Brand Automatic Gate. Apparently, some Owners don't take responsibility for installing such equipment & exposing others to it. A DIY gate opener solution is not for everyone, but Ghost's was perfect for me. When I bought my home four years ago, it came with a nice looking gate but a horribly unreliable and expensive gate opener from another company. When the old opener stopped working the first time, making using a car a major inconvenience, I called around and found a few companies who could troubleshoot and fix. They were all priced about the same, and my out of pocket cost wound up shockingly high: over $2000 in parts and labor. When it broke the second time, I tried fixing it myself but the documentation I had was borderline useless, and the company refused to help me over the phone because I wasn't a "licensed repair technician." Worse, I learned the parts were discontinued meaning if a part was toast, I'd have to replace most or all of the operators and controls! That's when I did some Googling and Amazon searches for a DIY solution, and found Ghost, which was the opposite in pretty much every way. My whole purchase for a full system with bells and whistles (operators, controls, double battery and box, keypad, pushbutton exit, extra remotes) was only about $900. Not only is their documentation easy to read, but they make it available online so you can read it before you buy - which is awesomely transparent. And they actually help you over the phone: I called them a few times to ask a bunch of installation questions - before I even purchased - and they readily answered everything, which took over an hour in total. (Keith was especially knowledgeable - thank you!) This also gave me the confidence to purchase the correct system, in my case the "heavy duty" series double opener system using AC power. It turns out the "architectural series" probably would've been too large for my gate. I'm saving most installation details for my Amazon product review, but I'll give a quick summary here. Ghost says you can have this thing installed in an afternoon, and I'd say that's probably optimistic... but achievable IF you are handy, and already have the ideal existing gate setup, which is: a tube gate correctly installed with 6x6" wooden posts set in concrete, an adjacent wood fence for mounting control and power boxes, a line voltage A/C power outlet within 1000 feet (indoors or in a protected outdoor outlet), and low voltage (or better) conduit run underneath the driveway - plus sufficient lengths of low voltage wire and correct installation tools. Having said that, my installation was nothing like that and took a number of weekends. I had a wood panel steel frame privacy gate which is NOT compatible with the Ghost system, so I had to convert it to a narrow picket style gate first, and install an aluminum cross bar for the operator to connect to. My gate had 1/4" thick 4x4 rectangular steel posts already installed which are nice looking but a nightmare to drill, which you have to do to install the operators. I had to improvise a solution which required more MacGuyvering than I care to share. I practically earned a master's degree in the various wall anchor types needed to support various aspects of the installation. But was it worth it? Heck yes! I now have a much easier to use (and, if necessary, fix) gate operator that cost a fraction what the old one did, and frankly looks better too. I'm aware that there are a few DIY gate operator options out there now, and that Ghost is not the cheapest among them (though it is close). If I had to do it all over, I would absolutely choose Ghost again. read more

On 06/05/2023 I hired a professional fence company to install a fence with double gate openers. He installed dual openers manufactured by Ghost Controls. The openers worked for 30 days and suddenly quit working. I followed the troubleshooting guide provided by Ghost and also on their website. Every time I would activate the remote, a 10 amp fuse on the control module would blow. I called Tech Support at Ghost Control. I waited on hold for over 30 minutes. After finally getting a Tech, he has me do the trouble shooting steps I had already done. I blew additional fusses. He told me it was an easy fix and I needed to cut the diodes off of the control arms. He send me instructions with photos. A customer performing repairs? He told me it was easy and I could do it. I removed the diodes as instructed. It didn't work, I called Tech Support and waited another 30 minutes. I got a different Tech who questioned why I cut the diodes. Seriously? He had me do additional troubleshooting with the same results. He informed me that I had 2 bad control arms. I asked it it was covered under warranty. He told me lightening strikes aren't covered under warranty. I told him there was no damage caused by lightening. He told me the only reason two control arms go bad at the same time is lightening. I contacted Ghost Control and requested to speak with a supervisor. No response. Worthless warranty and worthless customer support! read more

We have dual gates at the end of our driveway. We bought the heavy duty dual gate openers. The installation manual and online videos via YouTube were very helpful. The problems started while programming the set points for open and close. Followed all instructions and it simply doesn't work consistently. The gate would not respond to the jog buttons consistently, sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't. The set point had the same issue. Also, the speed of the gates was erratic. The gate openers could not be programmed to consistently open or close. The gate openers speed varied, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. The gates didn't go at the same time. The one time it did operate correctly, right after it lost its programming. After beating my head against the wall for two days I called the help line. I could not get them to respond to phone or email. Finally I got a phone call that I couldn't take immediately. When I called the "urgent" line, I got sent to the main switch board (phone tree) and the wait time is ridiculous. I had to hire an electrician who has installed dozens of gate systems and he could not get this gate to function properly either. In short, don't waste your money or time. This product is faulty and my experience was horrible. read more
