I had the chance to visit this place and cross it off my list of places to see. I wasn't disappointed. This is definitely a pretty cool experience. There really isn't a reason for this, gravitational pull; This reminds me of the Mystery spot In Santa Cruz, ca. (Another review) Once you park (about 45yards) put your car in neutral and cut the engine.. waaalaaa, your car will move and pick up speed, takes you over the tracks and you end up safely off the tracks Please remember to put your windows down, listen for trains, this is a live track and there are no barriers, or warning lights to make you aware of an oncoming train. What is really Interesting about this place is that the surrounding neighborhood has streets named after the children killed in the tragic bus accident that occurred in the early 70s, or so the legend claims. read more

Ok, as my first review going towards my list of "haunted" places in San Antonio, I start with the Ghost Tracks. The story is that around the 40s or 50s a bus filled with young kids (ranging in age from 7 - 11yrs) stalled on the railroad tracks at this crossing. A train came as the bus driver was trying to restart the engine but unfortunately it was too late. The children (or at least their souls) don't want the same incident to happen to anyone else so if you stop your car a few feet ahead of the tracks and put your car in neutral, the kids will push you up and over the tracks. It's also been said that the streets in the area are names of the children who perished in that crash (Shane, Cindy Sue, Richey Otis, Nancy Carole and Laura Lee). As with anything deemed 'haunted' people have come to denounce the whole story with scientific findings i.e., it sits on a minor slant which will make your car pull forward anyway. To this day there have been no articles regarding such an accident ALTHOUGH it's still a great place to come to on a late, dark night or especially halloween!! But FYI if you do decide to go on Hallow's Eve, SAPD will be out there to control the crowds. read more

So going here is more for the novelty than anything else... Though the "creepy" juju is definitely in the red-zone here! It is in a somewhat run-down part of town and if you approach the tracks from the north there is a little pull-out to compose yourself, put your flashers on and let any high-speed traffic pass by before proceeding. I recommend putting your gear in neutral about 30yds from the track. You get some momentum, then hit the tracks, but right when you hit the first bump you get a bit of jolt that feels more like a push than just hitting the first track...weirded me out!!! However, I put the powder on top of my trunk as suggested and was almost disappointed there weren't any hand prints. If you approach from the south, there is a definite incline and you won't clear the tracks if you put it in N as you approach...the odd thing from this side for me was my car was climbing the little hill on neutral and then hit a sort of wall and just kinda sat there before jerking a little bit and then coasting back down the little hill...as if the kiddie ghosts were like "tsk tsk" trying to push me OFF the tracks!? In any case, I am soooo glad I went during the day because the creepy factor must quadruple at night!! I first heard of the tracks when I was in high school, but it wasn't until college that I actually came. These were the days long before the internet or Google. I came again in 2007 and brought a friend, so I knew I wanted to return with my best friend during our current trip to San Antonio. A news story said the tracks were being removed in 2017, but I saw on a ghost tours website a story written in 2020. I called and was told the tracks still exist. I don't know if the story is true, but my Lincoln Navigator was pushed across just the same as my previous trips in smaller cars. I definitely recommend going later at night when traffic is nearly non-existent and there aren't dozens of cars coming up behind you trying to access the park or whatever is right next to the tracks. read more

It was the labor day weekend, what to do what to do? I was too lazy to drive out of town so I decided to go through my Yelp bookmarks to figure out something fun locally. I wasn't too sure about all the outdoor activities because of the 100 degree weather. Then I saw the ghost tracks! Hmm, all right all right I am gonna go hunt for ghosts! If you don't know the story behind it, just google it. It's apparently pretty well known among locals. I'm actually not into the "ghost" stuff but my friend is. She has done many ghost tours and stuff. Anyways she and I all got excited b/c neither of us had done this ghost tracks before. We came on a Saturday evening before dark. Based on the address given, we located the tracks easily. The area is in the sticks. It was actually a little scary to begin with. We put the car on neutral then turned it off. In a sudden, my car started moving slowly towards the railroad tracks. When it reached the tracks we could feel it got pushed up then over the tracks!! It was pretty awesome! We did that maybe 6 times like little kids. It was a lot of fun! One time, we both got out of the car to figure out if the road was actually downhill when it appears uphill. Then my car door was suddenly shut! I started screaming b/c I thought the "ghost" got into my car and was gonna drive it away. But that turned out to be the wind, lol! By the time we were leaving, it was already dark. The area deff became more scary so we left quickly! My car was also running out of gas which added more freakish factor to it. We had so much fun that evening! Overall, quite unique activity for a boring San Anto weekend. Next time, we will bring the baby powders! read more

I'm rating this place with 5 stars because it's been a fav since I was little and long before me too by many many people. I have read it is not true by some writers and attempts at scientific explanations but boo hiss on those people raining on a scary fun time out. This is a place not just for locals but great for visitors. Bring your friends from out of town here to freak them out and have some ghost stories. Bring the kids and teach them about safety and how you don't play on railroad tracks. But even more fun fun fun is wash your car then throw that baby powder on the back end and bumper and see what appears. It doesn't matter what time of day you go as you can still be pushed across. Do watch out, though, because it is an active railroad and you don't. Want to be trying the kids when a train is coming. It is, however, the most fun at night. I've taken a few groups here. It's easy to find, and there's little to no wait. There's a Valero gas station nearby to dust for hand prints, etc. We've had tiny hand prints 3 out of 5 times. Folks often experience chill bumps. It's a fun time with locals because there's always other cars doing the same thing. Clean the windows, Park in front of the tracks, put the car in neutral, then turn the ignition off. The car always goes over the tracks. Dust for prints with flour or baby powder. Sometimes people are spooked and sometimes they aren't. Why not go for it? Then, listen to everyone fight about whether or not ghosts exist the rest of the way back to Austin. read more

As a tourist in San Antonio, my friends took me the famous haunted tracks. Hearing about the story of the tracks, I wanted to see if the car really moves out of the way when the car is idling on the tracks. We came here in the evening not really late at night. I was still fascinated by how it coincides with the story. We tried it 3 times & the car would be still for a few seconds then it moves forward off the tracks. I don't believe the ghost kids pushed our car but thought it was cool that we moved out of the way in a few seconds. I know the tracks are on a small slope but to experience it was pretty cool. If you go late at night, watch for cops they watch who comes out here and hangs out here. Also, they say to bring baby powder. After your car is pushed out of the way of the tracks, put baby powder in the back of your car & they say you will see kids handprints that pushed your car. We didn't have any so we couldn't put that to the test. Try it if you're in the area!! read more

A myth or urban legend the story behind the Ghost Tracks is worth a midnight visit. The area is very creepy and an area you don't want to be stranded. Weather the story is true or not driving over the train tracks is fun and scary doing. The rules are if you pour baby powder on the back end of your car, and drove up to the rail road tracks. Then put your car to neutral, and legend had it at your car will continue over the tracks. Saying the dead kids are pushing your car over the tracks, helping you cross the track they didn't cross. The story of the tracks is not real. There is no documentation of any such event in the area. It happened in Utah. It's just an urban legend created by someone once. Many paranormal teams have investigated and proved it a fake. They've also proved the famous picture of the child to be a fake as well. Locals and police are trying to keep these thrill seekers away because they are still used tracks, and it's not a good idea to stop your car on train tracks in the middle of the night. Don't go here. I'm not sure if this actually works but if you have some free time at night, you should make the trip purely for the novelty. It was much more crowded than I was expecting so that got rid of a lot of the scare factor. It's just a fun trip to make. DO NOT forget to get some baby powder before the trip! Sprinkle it over the back of your car, drive onto the tracks facing the forest, and then put your car into neutral! See if your car gets pushed by the ghost children and then check for tiny hand prints on the back of your car in the powder! No luck for my car but doesn't hurt to keep trying! It is a very interesting story but has been disproved many times. Almost a teenage right of passage these days either way. I went when I was in High School and was disappointed to learn it wasn't real but if you use surveyors equipment out there, you will see that it is at a slight degree downhill and not up. The surrounding landscape gives the illusion of uphill. Not only that but there has never been a single shred of evidence that this happened here. It happened near Salt Lake City, Utah at the earliest and later in Colorado and other places but never near San Antonio. I've grown up here in San Antonio, you know your typical born and raised. So all these places, railroad, asylums, donkey lady bridge, wasn't such a scary story as it would be to tourist, but this one night, July 1st, 2015, changed my mind completely! We always went when we were bored and even got off and walked the train tracks, yup a little crazy. And always tried scaring one another! so this one night we thought we would take my boyfriends cousins, who by the way came down from California for vacation, as we followed in two cars we got near the tracks and realized there was a candle in the middle of the road, we thought it was kind of odd, but proceeded to do the pushing of the car, and afterwards we told the second car to get off and walk it, they told us "yall can, but we're leaving something was following us" so we got freaked out and left, we went other places and calmed down, when we pulled to a near gas station and asked what happened, they all seemed scared, and these comments were coming from the people who always tried scaring us, so we believers them! They said a "white Cloud thing was behind the car" following and even got closer when we were passing the cemetery, so we just drove around until we all decide to go back, this is where things get out of hand, and even I still can't believe, we go back, do the tracks and this time get out, the cousin from California decides to show us how the tracks are "real" with a water bottle, saying that if it was just gravity pushing the car the water bottle would move, and at that time, he starts feeling weird, light headed and was burning up, my brother in law, that being my boyfriends brother, bends down trying to help him get up, and I was just maybe 2 ft away from him, when he bends down, and then right before touching the cousin, jumps and says "fuck, my back" I was shocked, and told him, "pick up your shirt, to find scratches in his back! This freaked us out completely and decided to leave ASAP! When others started to feel hot and like they couldn't breathe, we all took off in the car and this is where things got scarier, the guy who was sitting in the back seat tells us, "I don't want to freak yall out but something's following us," as were passing the cemetery, he then tells my boyfriend "drive faster, speed up, it's right next to us" all this coming out of his mouth while looking with a blank expression outside the window, we pull up to an heb near military Ed, and he can't breathe and we find a red mark on his back, as if someone was holding him, and the cousin had a scratches as well, it got to the point where we almost called the ambulance, all this happened around 1am-3:16am when we got home, and we're thinking about going again soon read more

Everyone knows that the "story of the ghost tracks" has been de-bunked at least once or twice, but it's mostly for the novelty of it that anyone should experience it. Now, don't go making a special trip across town this very instant to try it out, but if you happen to be in the area, go for it! Be careful because due to the popularity of "the ghost tracks" there is a slightly increased presence of law enforcement peeps who will rain on your parade and make you stop. Oh, and it gets crazy bumpin' during Halloween so definitely don't go at that time! Unless of course you absolutely have to. But while you're there you should definitely check out the Missions too, or Espada Park. Multiple birds with one stone! Lot of great memories visiting this place as a kid! Mom loved to scare us anytime she got a chance. We would go before washing the car to see if we could catch some handprints in the dust when we got pushed over. Always did, but mom probably planted them! Only problem is, SAPD are often out there. Especially on Halloween! We got a ticket the last time we went, along with a whole line of other people. :( I imagine its a pain for the people living in that neighbor hood. read more

So from what I'm reading, everybody that goes to the ghost tracks parks directly on the rail road tracks? That's why there's an incline & people claiming its "false." When I went, we parked a bit before the tracks on the side in a small ditch. Something pulled us out & put us safely on the other side. Also, there are stories of something breaking peoples back Windows when people press down on the break when they are being "escorted" to the other side. Don't waste your time coming here. Had heard about these tracks since I was a kid & even saw a TV show which seemed to verify the phenomena. I've visited these tracks several time's as a kid and with my own children. True or not, can't it just be what it is???? Something that as a kid you will remember and take thier kids too... It's just for fun. No money involved. Just a silly idea that keeps some life into a story that will never go away. The summer after I moved to the San Antonio area in 1995, my 14-year old daughter came to visit. She had seen an episode of some television program detailing the Ghost Tracks of San Antonio, so she insisted that I take her to see them. I was driving a Dodge Dakota extended cab pick-up at the time, so with my brother in-law in the passenger seat and my daughter in the back seat, we set out to find the tracks following directions from people who had been there previously. It wasn't tough to find, and in the middle of a summer work week, the area around the tracks really did seem disserted. My daughter had the whole routine we were supposed to follow memorized, but she forgot the baby powder. Regardless, I pulled up on the tracks as instructed, put the truck in neutral, rolled down the windows (since the AC would go off once the truck was turned off), turned the engine off and we sat to see what would happen. The first thing I noticed (besides the heat of the mid-summer day), was the ghostly sound coming from an adjacent property, which I subsequently determined were peacocks. (If you have ever heard the racket a flock of peacocks can make, you'll know what I mean. Listen to it on YouTube if you haven't.) Eerie. Humoring my daughter, we sat quietly for about ten minutes with nothing happening. I was going to explain to her that the fact we were in the pick-up truck could be the reason nothing was happening, since it was probably too heavy for the ghost children to move. Now I kid you not... There was a sudden "nudge" feeling from the rear of the truck, almost like another car had come up behind us and given us a quick push. Nothing gradual at all, but an abrupt, forceful push that made our heads bounce back. We all spun around, expecting to see another car or something, but there was nothing there. If you're familiar with the site, you know that immediately after crossing the tracks there is a sharp turn in the road to the right, so I had to refocus my attention on steering the truck as we rolled over the tracks towards the curve. As soon as I made the turn, I braked, started the truck, and we headed out of there. I have been back several other times, but never experienced the same results. Maybe the legend is true, and the ghost children target vehicles with kids in them, because my subsequent visits had only adults present. read more

This is completely ridiculous. First, it's an optical illusion. Trick of the eye. You aren't rolling uphill, but downhill and I guarantee if you clean your car you will not find "ghostly handprints". It's just the oil from living hands that leave a residue. It's called science. Second, the bus accident didn't even happen in Texas. It was in SLC, UT. It was such a horrific accident that it was reported nationwide. I have no idea why Texas decided to claim it. It did, however, get railroads to install stop signs and flashing lights at crossings. read more

We just came back from spring break 2013 from San Antonio Texas. I was a non believer as well before I actually went, The first night we parked right before the tracks, truck off and in neutral. The vehicle was at a complete standstill for about a minute or 2. Out of nowhere I felt as if the truck was barely rocking, I have a rosary hanging from my rear view mirror and at it was also rocking. Then truck started rolling across the tracks very slowly. Everyone in the truck was creeped out and wanted to leave. We were gonna leave until we turned the corner and saw more cars, that gave us comfort and we stayed and tried it more. That night we did get a handprint on the side of our truck and a few on the tailgate. The second night we had the same experience a few times, my son snapped a picture at the same time the truck started moving, and he caught something very disturbing on camera. I have the same shot of the back of the truck twice, one completely clear and the other with something very unexpainable. I do believe the road is slightly slanted but where I parked there was no way it was going to move by itself, I even tried to give it a push, it didnt move easily meaning that nothing else could have made the truck move besides whatever is out there.
