Returning to the Brooklyn practice this week for the first time, I was shocked to be told that it appeared I'd been neglecting dental hygiene. In fact, I had a cleaning at Hampton Bays Dental Associates two months ago. Those cleanings were apparently ineptly done. In addition, I was given an estimate of $5,000 and told that the recommended work was necessary to my dental health. X-rays in Brooklyn this week indicated that none of the recommended work is indicated. Lastly, Dr. Sheren, the owner of the Hampton Bays practice, referred me to an oral surgeon to rule out tongue cancer. Fortunately, my Brooklyn dentist, after thoroughly examining my tongue, indicated that there was absolutely nothing on my tongue. He was puzzled that I was given such a referral.

I was referred to Dr. Nelson by my general dentist. It was a Saturday and was told it would be difficult to see an oral surgeon with such short notice. I was extremely swollen and in a lot of pain. Saturday evening Dr. Nelson contacted me despite being out of town. He assured me he would be able to see and treat me on Sunday....on a Sunday! Sunday, I was greeted by his assistant Chris who was so kind and helpful right from start. Dr. Nelson was start to finish AMAZING!! He took me right away, explained in detail what was needed and assured me throughout the procedure that I was going to do fine. He was very informative, provided me with a copy of the X-ray and discussed other things he felt were important to take care of as well. I am a busy Full Time working mom and I tend to let my things pass for the sake of doing for my kids and my family. It was nice to feel that it was not something to be embarrassed about and that my issues can be corrected simply with proper treatment and care. The calm that I felt was refreshing from my past daunting experiences. I went a couple of days later for a follow up and didn't even make it to a chair to sit down, he greeted me and took me straight away. He has become our family dentist and orthodontist and I have recommended him to friends many times. He is very knowledgeable, lectures around the world and has state-of-the-art equipment. Patrice is my hygienist for the past few visits and she is great. I can't say the same about the desk staff anymore. The only doctor today is Dr Trapani and seems like he has a difficult case with one of his patients and everyone has to wait without having any of the office staff apologizing for the delay and explaining what's going on. It's time to have at least 2 dentist at all time in the office. I don't come just for x-rays and clean up. The most important part of a dentist visit is the evaluation to keep up with a healthy teeth. I am very disappointed that I a have to advocate for myself to want to be seeing by Dr Trapani, otherwise I was just going to be dismissed until my next appointment. That's unacceptable for a loyal patient.
