For an urban grocery store, this gets the job done. What benefits this location is its proximity to the Metro and other nearby plazas/shops. Can make for an easy stop to retrieve what you need and be on your way (if you are up for a walk). I came here recently as I was doing a detour home. I needed to hit up a grocery store and was hoping that I would find one soon on the Metro. Once here from the stop I went inside and oriented myself. I had to use the signs to find exactly where things were. I was in here to grab what was needed and not to browse. I wanted to make it as quick of a run and get back home to continue my workday. I was able to accomplish finding everything, then I made my way to the registers. Self checkout seemed to be the way to go here as it was not busy during my visit, and I really don't remember anyone at the other registers. Then that is when something had to go wrong. I scan all my items, put in my reward information, and then the register said I didn't bag an item. I can assure you I did put it in the bagging area robotic ma'am, but you just did not register it. Then I had to wait for the sole employee to make his way to me. I am very much an introvert, and I hate when I am being forced to talk with someone, so this was unneeded for me. The ONGOING problem this location has is expired food. For example July 20 2027 the entire display of bagged produce collard greens had expired dates. I wanted to purchase some and found 2 produce guys who told me no replacement available. I told them the entire display had expired bags. Today July 26 2027 THE SAME EXPIRED BAGS ARE STILL THERE. I have purchased spoiled chicken and returned it even though its date hadn't even arrived for another 2 days. There have been other returns in the past. I have been a generational Giant customer since their days on Monroe St. But I am done. I can't take the chance with my health. It takes 3 times longer to shop here because you must examine for expired dates. It is cumbersome. I am over it. I will have to drive further to Wegmans but at least the food is fresh. read more

I've been shopping at this Giant for years and have never had a bad experience. The manager (who used to work at the Monroe St location, which was also good) is very conscientious and kind, as are most of the staff throughout the store. It's always well stocked and the produce and seafood are fresh. Yes there is usually only one person plus self checkout in the evenings, but the self checkout staff are helpful and there for you in 2 seconds if you have an issue or question. I would take the negative reviews with a grain of salt because most people wouldn't think to review their chain grocery store unless they had an issue or gripe. I spent the here yesterday working in the Starbucks section of the grocery store. I am working in a React project and I am always checking out new spaces that are comfortable, relatively quiet, and a good WiFi connection. Here is much more tranquil and less chaotic then what you would find at a regular stand alone location. The tables and large bench chair is super comfortable, and it's situated at the front of the store which is another plus. Even though this dining section is situated next to the in-store Starbucks, many of the people were eating, drinking coffee, or hanging out with fellow employees. I figured there were less then 10 customers using the space. The air conditioning and strong WiFi has so far made it a great experience here. The fact that there its a grocery store with readily available food and drink which I also enjoyed- gives it a double like! read more

Great store but be very careful with deceptive unit pricing in some departments - produce and paper goods especially. In produce for example, you will see three containers of the same items (berries, tomatoes) with up to three different unit prices (ounce, pint, pound) versus everything in ounces like Safeway and probably others. Be careful too with bell peppers, where some are by the ounce and others unit priced. Toilet tissue, foil wrap, etc also bad - unit prices by square foot vs roll vs weight. read more

I just discovered this Giant last week. I normally eat at Cava for lunch. But had to go to Verizon and voila! Saw Giant across the street. There is metered street parking right next to the store or a free parking garage. I love the salad bar. It is fully stocked and everything I've selected has been fresh. There are also plenty of hot and cold pre packed options to take if you're in a rush. It's a fully stocked grocery story. I will say I bought some fresh raspberries l, blueberries and blackberries they had available prewashed and sorted. They went bad after 2 days. So I deducted a star for that. I bought their store made tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole and took it for my coworkers. They LOVED it and devoured it. I also bought street tacos kit they had available for a mangers special because they expired that day. They were $5 each and had enough to feed 4 people per kit. It's a shame how awful customer service has gotten at what was my favorite grocery store for years. The cashiers are awesome; unfortunately, the managers have stopped caring about the customers and replaced most of the cashiers with self-checkout kiosks in the evenings. As I buy mostly fruit and vegetables, I need to go to cashiers who know the codes and can get me through faster than I can. At the end of a long day I don't want to stand in line for a single cashier - it's ridiculous. DO NOT go here in the evenings. Only go during the days when cashiers are available. It's spacious, very clean and so far at least five staff members are helpful friendly and genuinely nice. Cynthia was patient with me as well as Alisha. Norman the store manager got several different items for my family from another store so we could enjoy while celebrating Passover. They carry sweet whipped butter by Breakstone so it spreads easier on matza. The underground parking is convenient in inclement weather or the humid summer. 2 hour parking is a fair amount of time and it's free, but be sure to validate at checkout. My favorite thing at this store is the samples of healthy, delicious and various natural smoothies. Picked up a 3 lb ready cooked chicken ( garlic & herb) Empire for Ten bucks( on sale), and I zap for 22 minutes add potatoes to the gravy and it is delicious and easy. I'm never going to this Giant again. I've observed 5 people in 2 visits this last week not wearing Governor mandated masks - the food is generally decently stocked but there is very little enforcement of safety protocols during Covid-19. I understand everyone's trying right now but this is an area where simply trying is not good enough. 4 of these customers had carts filled with groceries which means they had been shopping and handling goods for extended periods of time. It hurts to say because this particular Giant was my favorite in the area but the very lackadaisical enforcement of Covid-19 safety measures is a non-starter. read more

I've only been here twice and wanted to like it as it's a convenient location. The place is absolutely filthy. The garage entrance and the elevators haven't been cleaned in decades. Worse - there's a strange smell throughout the store that really put me off. There is obviously zero pride in this as a place of work. Beyond that, the prices are higher than elsewhere. (About 20% got the things we bought). The selection is really pretty good, which is unfortunate as I don't believe we will return due to the overall experience. Nice new Giant at the corner of E. Glebe and Route 1 which just opened last week, so the place is still new and shiny, and hopefully it will stay that way as there are some Giant stores in the area that are pretty gross (hello, S. Glebe store!). Big produce area, some prepared foods right when you walk in, Starbucks and lots of self-check out lanes. I couldn't figure out where to park at first (garage underneath, 2 hours free parking with validation) but you can drive right in and take the elevator up one floor (something this Bostonian finds fascinating). I went today on an empty stomach which was a shame as there was some wine sampling happening (I know, I was in a GROCERY store where they were also sampling food) and the place was busy (probably not only for the free stuff, but groceries from a clean store. I have been to this Giant a few times and, I must say, it is one of my favorite ones in the area. It's spacious and clean. They have lots of produce samples which I enjoy giving to my 1 year old so he can start to taste fresh fruits and veggies in small doses. The parking is underground and it is free. The deli people are actually friendly and have a sense of urgency that I have seen lacking at other locations. There is a wide variety of organic and "natural" products. There are also lots of options for different varieties of meat (ie: prepackaged pork tenderloin had 4 different flavor options). Items that I have had trouble finding at other Giants (specifically mint chocolate chip fiber one protein bars) were readily available here. They have more ready-made meals than I have seen at other locations too. There is also a PNC Bank on site. This Giant is relatively close to me and is convenient to visit after taking my son to story time at the Barnes and Nobles nearby. I definitely plan on returning in the future. read more

Y'all this Giant is awesome! They have a free underground parking garage. This means when it's raining you can go grocery shopping without stepping outside! This location also has the best selection of fresh fruit and veggies of any grocery store I've been to in the area. I've never had to sort through mushy grapes and bananas like at other stores. The shelves are always stocked and it never seems overly crowded. They also have a huge amount of self checkout kiosks if that is your thing! read more

This store stinks literally... I live in Potomac Yards and love the convenience of this store. They have a large gluten free/diary free section, they sell delicious green smoothies, have a Starbucks inside, etc., HOWEVER this store smells like sewage!! I've shopped here twice this week and the smell overwhelms me as soon as I walk through the door. It seems to go away once you've made it pass the first produce stand, but getting through the doors without my stomach churning is nearly impossible. This store is practically new, so I really don't understand the pungent, god awful smell?!? It didn't smell this way earlier this year! Giant is the bomb. I usually shop around 10AM on Saturday or Sunday. I used to shop at a different store that didn't start its deli and shelving until after 11AM, which was pretty annoying because it meant I didn't have access to many of the items on my list. Giant seems to have all departments going early, so they really stick out to me in this regard. I have to take a moment to give a shout out to two people: Mary and Abdul. One morning I was shopping with my 2-year-old and was looking for peeled and cut butternut squash. Abdul offered to pick one out for me, and to peel and cut it in order for me to pick it up after finishing with the rest of my shopping. Amazing, right?! What service. We always seek out Mary for checkout. Mary is friendly, speedy, and very thoughtful while bagging groceries. The things that keep me coming back to this Giant location are Mary, Abdul, and the fact that the shelves are stocked by 10AM, giving shoppers the options they need. read more

TL:DR (again) The Giant has fixed the main points of concern of mine and Mariah's review. Including safety mirrors in the garages, stop signs, patrons, and employees. After a short 2 months of growing pains this Giant has really bloomed into one of my favorite places to shop in. Two causes for concern in my original review have been assuaged. Everything positive has remained in place- hence the 5 start review! My original major complaint were the surly patrons and uncouth people working here. To those remarks, somehow they have really "cleaned up". There are no longer workers hanging out right outside of Starbucks taking up the entire sidewalk with their loud, often curse filled, smoking breaks. They seem to linger around the area still on their smoke breaks, but at least they're avoidable when walking to and from the Giant. Perfect example, the other day I walked into Giant and I was promptly greeted while perusing the fruit section by a nice employee with samples of Starbucks lattes to offer me! I saw this same exact employee 1 month ago looking as unapproachable as everyone else. But this store is proof- if you get rid of, or at least hide in the back, the unfriendly, lazy workers that act as a cancer on the atmosphere of the store, everyone thrives. I'm consistently greeted by the fish market people, asking how I liked the last fish I purchased, etc, the banking employees, and the cash register greeters. It is now beginning to feel more like a friendly neighborhood store and not just like a scary place to be with a fresh coat of paint. I like that the employees assigned to the cash register stand at the end of the aisle clearly visible and ask if you're ready to be checked out by them to usher you into their empty aisle. Kudos to management, this is a nice touch until the Giant is full enough to warrant them staying behind the registers all day. The people that shop here have also improved. Thank goodness. I could not stand walking downstairs to people smoking in the garage with young children, or people cursing at their kids in the store- that environment is no longer here. So thanks to the management and security team. There is a Starbucks and PNC here. There are also those nifty coin collector machines. There is NEVER a line at checkout thanks to the 10 self check out kiosks and plenty of employees on standby at the checkout aisles. The aisles are constantly stocked. The fruit/veggies are always fresh (unlike the Harris Teeter down the street). There is hot food available at any hour. The pharmacists are very friendly as well. Overall this Giant is finally worthy of being one of the first businesses in the new and upcoming exclusive Potomac Exchange neighborhood. read more

My wife, son and I were always attended to and the staff is very respectful and friendly. I guess it's the manner how you as a person approach someone plays a major factor. Customer experience: the interaction between a customer and an business throughout their business relationship (from seafood and lottery tickets to everything in between). A customer's experience impacts their willingness to be a loyal advocate, to pay more when there are other options but, they choose to repeat the experience. Giant needs to focus on connecting with customers; a customer brings value regardless to age, culture or diversity of backgrounds. A negative experience over $1 or, not taking the time to connect with a customer (because they present different from what your use too,) does little to reduce churn. If you want new and old customers to remain loyal, you have to invest in their experience! read more

Customer service is lacking. Today I got in line where a cashier by the name of Margaret was texting and never greeted me. She then proceeded to have an attitude when I questioned the pricing of an item that she rang up wrong. After realizing she was wrong, she didn't apologize, but proceeded with an attitude. I also spoke to one of the managers regarding another pricing issue and she had an attitude as well. The customer service was really disappointing. The only reason I gave two stars is because the store was neat and well organized. It doesn't hurt to be nice to people, treat them with kindness and to be helpful. Every since I moved out here from Florida it is difficult to find just one perfect grocery store that has EVERYTHING in one place. In my case I mostly shop here for everything except protein and diary products. I like thin beef but after a third attempt it was folded to hide the meat was bad, so there goes $11 down the drain. When I'm looking for milk or yogurt, they are always out of my flavor or don't even restock. And I usually shop when it's not busy. So basically nothing that is not package well is not great. read more

We keep trying to avoid this Giant, but it's very convenient for where we live. However, I regret every trip made to this store. No matter what department we're in, we're met by rude, slow, inconsiderate, and disinterested service. For example, we go there quick for bread in the bakery and the attendant tries to ignore us until we verbally get their attention. Once we have her attention, she's unbelievably rude and cops an attitude because we asked for our bread to be sliced. I came here on opening day. And I concur with Jess' review and would like to add that the parking garage entrance should have the safety mirrors so cars know when pedestrians are crossing. I noticed that cars just zip right out of the garage rather than slowly and carefully approaching it. I noticed this right away and told one of the employees who was standing alongside it to make that suggestion to mgmt. There should also be signs posted so both parties are made aware of this safety hazard. I also noticed people were taking the shopping carts from the store to one of the nearby apt buildings. (The one I'm referring to is the subsidized housing that sits on top of the firehouse and currently has petsmart and shoppers carts strewn in front of it and the main entrance of the building looks unkept). Talk about uncouth! I'm sure within a short period of time, orphaned carts will be littered about in the community. It's so sad too because Potomac Yard with its new sleek and expensive housing of mixed rental and ownership properties could start looking Trashy instead of how it potentially can be Classy. To avoid this, Why can't Giant put a lockdown on the carts like other places? You know what I'm talking about with the carts containing some magnetic device that prevents the carts from leaving the premises. I do like the hours, open early and closes at midnight. I also like how the deli/hot foods are right near the front entrance and wish the bakery was right beside it instead of being all the way in the back. Maybe the can incorporate a small kiosk in the deli with a few selection of pastries and cheese platters and a small cooler also nearby with milk and juice and chilled beer/wine. At least try to entice customers to want to walk back there because most of the time if it's inconvenient or if I have to spend time trying to find something that should be easily accessible, I won't bother. read more

As a resident at Notch 8 apartments, I was super excited for this location to open. The store itself is very clean (please keep it that way!) and well organized. They have a great selection of bakery items and an awesome natural foods section! Certain items that I could only find in Whole Foods are available here. They also have plenty of free tastings and a nice smoothie bar. I enjoy that there's never an absurd wait at the check out lines. I think this Giant has great potential, and I hope management continues to invest their time and attention as they did during the grand opening weeks. Cons: As other reviewers mentioned, the staff aren't the most desirable for the neighborhood. You have a lot of friendly, helpful workers, but more than a handful of young teenagers who clearly do not want to be there. For example, there's one very young boy who walks around the store all day doing nothing (the several times I've seen him). Yesterday, I witnessed him following another employee around in the parking garage who was pushing carts. A total of three employees were down there talking, with only one actually doing work. Hire people who want to work here and are fit for customer service roles. Don't fall victim to using lazy teenagers. read more

This is our #1 visited grocery store. They have a nice deli counter with lovely staff. The produce section is always well-stocked and you can get some exotic fruit (tropical avocados, anyone?). Hours are great! Parking in the garage is free. Giant accepts competitor coupons, which is super nice. Their international section is a bit limited, but if you need anything Hispanic, there are other shops nearby that definitely have what you need. read more
