Today I went to Giant Food and the place was jamming. The store was fully stocked, but the lines were a bit wild with only three registers open and customers stretching down the aisle. After waiting in line, I found out the cashier's scale was broken. The manager immediately jumped into resolution mode, had my cabbage weighed at another register, and kept everything moving. I must say, the way she handled it was very impressive. read more

I have shopped at the Waldorf Giant since the 1980s and it is my absolute favorite store and the Waldorf location earns first place in my opinion. The staff often greets me by name, and if they know that there is a product I especially love they tell me as soon as they see me. The store is very clean and organized, with wide aisles. Years ago, when they offered nachos and cheese in their salad bar, that was my treat for when I got home and put the groceries away. If I thought I wouldn't get there before the salad bar closed I called and they actually got a container filled and saved for me since they knew that I was on my way. I love those guys. read more

They have pretty much everything! Isles are open and long, everything looks so organized and faced properly! Bakery treats are good! Good sales all the time! Staff though... one guy watching videos loud on his phone in the middle of the isle. Another worker completely blocking us from leaving the isle and staring at this one lady waiting for her to move. This store was not quite remodeled but they added enclosed cold storage in the dairy aisles. It absolutely doesn't change the fact that this store is run down and needs to be remodeled. The produced section is quite hit or miss. Things like Clinton are an often brown, wilting or swimming in water. There are few folks to check customers out so the self checkout line is always pretty long I used to drive past the Safeway near my house to go here. No I bypass Safeway and this Giant to go to the newer Safeways in Brandywine and Laplata which are much brighter and cleaner. read more

I come to this store a lot to do my grocery shopping it is usually a good experience. It's clean and there are a lot of food choices. The deli is good and it has a pretty good seafood area. I'm sorry to say I have my first unpleasant experience here today. I was in the bakery to find anything red velvet for my son's birthday. We couldn't find anything on the grab and go selves so we waited to talk to the bakery staff. The person in back was busy with a customer and his two sons. We waited patiently until she was done with them. When she was finished she walked away despite us waiting to be helped and never acknowledged us. I know she saw us there. The second bakery person came up as I was going to say something. I asked her instead and she pointed to the frozen section, when we got there it still wasn't easily seen. The second person came behind us so I thought she came to help but instead she got a cake out the bottom shelf. When she say we couldn't find the red velvet item she just pointed behind her and said right there and kept walking. Very rude and surprising for this store. I mean not the worse experience I've had but it will definitely keep me out of the bakery. read more

My Rant of the Day: Why is "Cash" not allowed at most of the self check out lines? Apparently cash is less favored by the manager's of this Giant. We are forced to get in the 15 or less lines which takes longer on most days. Or we are forced to use a charge card. (That ain't right!) On a few days there are 1 but never more than 2 self check out lines that allow cash transactions. If your "Gold Standard" for grocery stores is Wegman's or Whole Food, like mine, you'll be disappointed shopping here. If you are tired of the "same old-same old" selection at Safeway, this has to do unless you feel like a 30-45 minutes ride. The produce department (see photos) recently added new items. BRAVO! There was fresh Turmeric on the shelves one day never to return, apparently. :-( Fresh figs appear more often. YES! And fresh mangos (2 varieties) are routinely stocked. Fist bump! I come for the produce. While I'm there I shop for other stuff like the poultry selection which is better than Safeway's, a low standard I agree. When I want a variety of cheeses, different cuts of meat, a Olive bar with more variety, etc., I go to Wegman's in PG County or Trader Joe's in NoVa. I suck it up and take a ride and make a day of it. I bet the military families are glad they have a Commissary at AAFB , as an option. C'mon CC. Do better! Shoppers in Waldorf also doesn't add much variety but at least you don't need an affinity card to get Shoppers lowest prices. ALERT: If you have an electronic freebie added to your Giant card, like I did today, make sure you aren't charged for it. A manager had to come over and authorize my free 8"Apple pie today. With only a couple other shoppers in the entire store, we went to self checkout. There were, maybe, 15-20 items in the TOP of the little cart. The checkout attendant came iver to my daughter and asked..."how many items you got?" She said Im not too sure exactly but not many. The attendant told her that she has to go to the regular line and she cant check out here. At the same time, a black guy walks up to the scanner with 40-50 items in his large cart. My daughter asked, what about him?? The attendant said, I quote exactly..."Some people can get away with it. You have to go." Needless to say, we will NEVER shop there, or at Giant, again. My go to grocery story in Waldorf. Shelf's are always stalked, employees are always professional and polite.

Very disappointed in this branch. I reached out and followed all the procedures and was denied hosting a fundraiser for my daughters cheerleading team. I was promised to be called back several times only to be ignored. This branch doesn't care about the community and helping local cheerleading teams raise funds for their competitions. Horrible customer service in returning phone calls or caring about the community. read more

Not doing a very good job with the social distancing in the lines. Why are the lines formed to the point where people are standing in front of items in the aisles? The only 6 ft distance marker is when your approaching the cashiers. Good luck if you need a coffee item because you'll have to manage social distancing yourself, while having to ask people if they can move out of your way to grab whatever items are close to the line towards the cashier. I'll come back after things get back to normal and hopefully they are keeping their employees safe! read more

While grocery shopping for my family at the Waldorf Giant the other night, I passed the meat section and saw what appeared to be spoiled red meat. Not sure why someone would buy meat that is browning. It made me physically ill to see this mixed in with the good meat. I will be shopping at the LaPlata Giant from now on. I keep receiving calls from the pharmacy information stating that my prescription is ready and when I get there I'm told they have no prescription on file. Once I show them the text they say oh......that must be a system error. Meanwhile I am still out of my BP medication. The girl/tech at the front counter seems to be spacey with a poor attitude. Great staff, but understaffed and poorly managed. I'm forced to use the self checkout most mornings since no registers are open and it never fails gay something is priced incorrectly. I end up having to yell to get help and look like a crazy person and usually the problem is solved in the next 10 to 15 minutes but I should be in and out in way less time than that. read more

well, I started working here November 7 my 30th birthday. May sound odd to others, but I have been trying to get a job as a night grocer ( which is what they call it in certain areas, but it is more popular called night stocking) nevertheless, I got the job) as we all know right after Halloween is when the holiday season starts ( late October until late December) so I was told at my interview that I would be working a lot of hours which I didn't have a problem with. The first week I worked six days a week second week I noticed my hours decreased A LOT. When I asked what the reason was one of the managers told me " well that's all up to you" I didn't quite understand what he meant, but it came off like I had to earn my hours, which was very odd to me. So after basically begging them for more hours the third week they finally gave me more hours. Mind you this was my first grocery store job and also my first overnight stocking job. So the fourth week comes and I'll look at the schedule. They have me down for one day and that was the day I was currently working at this point I'm confused but more than that irritated because I felt like they were playing games with me. After giving me the runaround. For about three days the lady that hired me. Carrie, I believe her name was tells me the general manager of the store who is in charge of the schedule. Is on vacation so I had to basically wait for him to get back to see which days I worked or if I still worked there at all. When I finally talk to him, he tells me that " we don't expect people to be experts starting out, but I should be able to put up 20 boxes starting out. Mind you my first three weeks I was basically assisting someone else on their isles. I didn't get my own until the third week and I was getting three isles to start out with and I always make sure I get at least two of them done. Each aisle varies some half about 40 to 50 boxes. Some may have 80 boxes some may have about 200. They also told me that I was placing items in the wrong spot which wasn't intentional when I informed them, it wasn't intentional he told me he knew that. At this point, I am basically begging him for another chance it's around Christmas time. I have two kids and I quit my daytime job in order to give this job. My all. I felt like working two jobs was starting to drain me. I would get off this job at 8:30 in the morning and had to be at my second job at 10 in the morning. So basically, I need this job in order to get my kids things for Christmas. He tells me OK give me a call tomorrow I'm going to talk to such and such and get back to you not only was I denied a chance to prove myself he didn't even terminate me properly he just took me off the schedule and told me this job was not for me in a very, and remorseful way. I don't know if this guy has something personal against me, but I could've did this job. I wasn't even there a month and two weeks out of the month I barely got any hours. This was one of the most unfair situation I have ever been in now. I am jobless desperately seeking employment, and my kids will not have the Christmas. They deserve. Mind you this isn't an easy job. It's a lot of work, but I am a very determined person and I wanted this job. All he had to do is give me another chance that I ask for just one week to prove myself he couldn't even do that. He just let me go very unprofessional he right before Christmas. So thanks a lot giant. It's your loss though I could've been a great asset to your company. Meanwhile, there is a guy still working there who starred the same week as me. Who has gotten various complaints And moves very slow but his hours never changed and he wasn't half as determined as I was. I'm just going to leave it at that because I don't want to throw him under the bus. All In all, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. And I know God has something better in store for me. My main issue is the timing and the way they went about things. Not looking for a handout but if anyone sees this, I just wanted to get my kids a decent Christmas. If you can find it in your heart all donations will be greatly appreciated $progress920. The worst pharmacy ever, and the last time I will use them!!! After leaving the doctors I drop the perception off , they said 2 hours!!! Ok I need these, so I went and ate, did some e-mails ect. 2-1/2 hours later I go back, still not ready !!! 15 or more people waiting same amount of time, they are under staffed, and have to wonder about them because while I'm still waiting 2 people had to bring there drugs bad because they were not the right one's!! WTH ???? So after 3-45 mins my name is called and they only had 1/2 of the prescription filled, and said you will have to come back in 4 days from now!!!!! I have to agree. I was in Alexandria last week and stopped at the Giant on Duke. What a great store! Smooth carts, fresh vegetables, clean floors,0. Looked like what I was used to in California. Why can't the Berry Rd Giant be like this one? I'll give you MY opinion... Loacton location location. This store is in a economically depressed area. So they send the fruits, bread, other perishable food stuff to this store (and others in poorer areas) when they are just at the end of their freshness meters. It's terrible. Why can't this store get fresh foods? We are kind of stuck as I don't like going all the way into Waldorf (7-8 miles- we are right off 210). Giant!? Any comments? read more

Come on, it's a grocery store. What do you expect? On most item the prices are less than Safeway and more than Food Lion. They do have a good variety to choose from. I usually go with the store brand because the store brand is usually made by the name brand companies (little known fact!). I like their meat selection, as well as their deli section. I also like their seafood section, especially the steamed shrimp! But like I said, it's a grocery store. At least it's clean and the staff is alway friendly and helpful. read more

The Manager at this store is very rude, nasty and unwelcoming. Went by to ask about an emergency donation for Thanksgiving. Although I know that request are made in advance, I took a chance. He was so mean, he said, "I don't know you." I replied, yes I know but I can give you my information, I understand that this is last minute. He looked me up and down and repeated the response in a VERY nasty tone. I could not beleive it! I told him never mind and walked away, paying for items out of pocket with no help for 10 families. I purchased a steak on Saturday 7/1, with a sale by date of Wednesday 7/5. I removed it from the frig yesterday to cook it 7/4, the entire steak was brown! Very disappointed in most giant stores lately! Meats and vegetables are pretty much a hit or miss. I'm giving it 3 stars because 1. We love using the scanners. How convenient are they? And 2. The employees, especially in the deli are such a delight. The only prob I've ever had was one time this manager was SOOO RUDE to a customer that I said something about it and it wasn't even none of my business. Now that's bad. I used to really like Giant. Their produce has gone downhill. If you don't get in there the week of deliveries the following week can be quite disappointing They want top dollar for items that, in my opinion are ready to be taken off the shelf. Like other people I work too hard to pay for lesser quality things. Please stop changing the isles around in hopes that I might buy more items.
