My fiance and I brought our cat, Boris, in, thinking we were going to have to put him down... Dr. Kristin assured us with her treatment plan that he had good odds of survival and recovery. She also worked within our budget. Our boy was in their care for 72 hours, and the aftercare and continued customer service has surpassed my expectations! He is continuing to improve and regain his health. Their communication, organization, and compassion is beyond amazing, more than what I've encountered in animal healthcare at other locations. They were gentle, patient, and professional with handling Boris. I felt completely at ease with him in their care. We had such a great experience, that I decided to bring our second cat, Esme, in just for a wellness visit and establish a patient relationship in case of future emergency with this baby. Staff here really listens and answers all your questions, and was able to provide refills on meds quickly and conveniently! I am very pleased with all the experiences I had at this office and look forward to continuing to trust Dr. Kristin and her staff with my precious kitties!

I had a very disappointing experience with Amherst Animal Hospital while trying to get my dog in…read morefor an emergency skunk bath. When I called, I was told that my dog could be seen as long as I sent over her vaccination records showing she was up to date on her vaccines. It took me about 40 minutes to contact my veterinarian, obtain the records, and have them sent over. After they were received, I got a voicemail stating that my dog could not be seen because she did not have the canine influenza vaccine. At no point during the original phone call was I told that the canine influenza vaccine was required. Had that been mentioned from the beginning, I could have saved a significant amount of time during an already stressful situation. When I went to the office to ask for clarification, Delaney's demeanor came across as dismissive and passive-aggressive. She repeatedly stated that my dog was "not fully vaccinated," even though my dog is current on all of her core vaccinations. The issue was not that my dog was behind on her routine vaccines--it was that the hospital also requires the canine influenza vaccine, a requirement that was never communicated to me during my initial call. What upset me the most was not the policy itself. Amherst Animal Hospital is absolutely entitled to require whatever vaccinations it believes are appropriate. My frustration was with the lack of communication and the complete unwillingness to acknowledge that the requirement should have been explained upfront. If Delaney had simply said, "I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that we also require the canine influenza vaccine," I honestly don't think the situation would have escalated. We are all human, and mistakes happen. A sincere apology and a little accountability would have gone a long way toward resolving the situation. Instead, I felt like my concerns were dismissed, and I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong. When I questioned why this wasn't explained initially, I was told, "I don't understand why you're yelling at me," even though I was simply trying to understand why I had spent nearly an hour gathering records for an appointment that was never actually possible under their policy. To the manager's credit, she came out and apologized, and I appreciated that. Unfortunately, by that point, the damage had already been done. The interaction left me feeling disrespected and unheard. This experience is especially disappointing because our family has trusted Amherst Animal Hospital with our pets for veterinary care. They have treated our other dog and our cat, and our in-laws have also been clients. After this experience, however, we all have decided to take our pets elsewhere. Policies are understandable. Poor communication and poor customer service are not. I hope this review encourages the hospital to better communicate its requirements upfront and reminds staff that a simple apology and a little empathy can make all the difference.

What a wonderful medical group! They are VERY accommodating (my husband and I have tricky…read moreschedules, and our pets have a LOT of special needs) and efficient, but that is not what makes them so special. The doctors, vet techs, vet assistants, groomers, and even the people in reception are warm and friendly and CARING, especially Holly, Mel B. (Our kitty Reggie is in LOVE with her!) and Drs. Walker and Mitzi. They all listened to our questions and concerns, and they treated us with kindness and patience. It is clear that they wanted us to understand every part of the appointment, and they made sure to get our informed consent about entry procedure or treatment. And the way they treat our kitties? Amazing. After every appointment, they called us "just to check in with how the patients are doing". You can really tell that they love animals. On a sad note, we recently lost out 16 year-old cat to cancer (he was being treated by an amazing oncologist at MedVet, by the way). When we had him put to sleep at Medvet (see my other review for THAT horror story), the folks at Bartels and Busack sent us condolences and a sympathy card even though they were not the ones who euthanized him. Their tech, Vince, was especially sympathetic and compassionate. Thank you for the comfort, B and B.

When I did have an emergency during hours and I thought my dog was dying, they wanted to charge me a $200 fee to have it reviewed by their board to see if they could get her in. I never went back. You'll also wait 30 minutes to see a doctor every time you go there. Why don't they just adjust their appointment times? Don't know. You'd think they'd provide top tier service with the prices they charge.
