I've tried giving this barbershop multiple chances, but unfortunately my experiences have continued to get worse. I asked for a medium fade and ended up with a much higher fade than requested. On top of that, my eyebrows were shaved down way shorter than I wanted without really checking first. I've also been nicked by the clippers on two separate visits, which is concerning. After this last experience, the overall care and attention felt very off to me, and I left feeling uncomfortable and unhappy with the service. Amazing Haircut at Gils Barber Shop! Gils is very good at what he does! I just showed him a picture of the haircut I wanted, and he nailed it. My hair didn't look great before, but by the time he was done, it looked really good. The custom barber shop with the friendly vibe appears to be a favorite of most ages of men in my area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I walk by and talk to the owner who is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I learned they provide services for Men and not Women as I stopped by needing a salon service, yet the store draws people for walk In and preset appointments. While chatting I happened to notice the people coming in and leaving are all different styles and different ages with various styles that means the stylist are not common in this shop. The low stress environment created by the owner makes it a relaxing and friendly space for your male grooming. The staff is both Male and Female and seems to be talented in understanding the different styles and needs of all ages. I probably pass at least 10 barbershops on my way to Gil's, that should say enough. I heard about this place by word of mouth, another good sign. A buddy of mine recommended Gil's barbershop when I was looking for a regular old school barbershop to take my kid for his first professional haircut. I had searched the county for a first come-first serve regular style barbershop, no appointment required, no salon styling, just a regular barbershop like the one I used to go to as a kid. Having been turned away from a few barbershops, I walked into Gil's and was welcomed. He collects patches on the wall, and has a TV usually playing some movie for entertainment. There are 2 chairs as Gil's has a lady that cuts hair there too. She gave my kid his first 2 haircuts which he loved. Since then, Gil gave my kid 2 haircuts, as my kid will no longer let me touch his hair, apparently my buzz cuts aren't cool. Gil's is reasonably priced, and one of the last true barbershops in East Ventura county, I recommend it. I'd get my haircut here too if I still had hair. read more

Chairs against the wall and the three barbers chairs facing where you can all chat and have a good time. You're guaranteed a great cut by both barbers every time. Gil and Martha from Pete's Barbershop are back and recently reopened in a new spot. But now Gil's the owner of the barbershop, which was a pleasant surprise. They're just a few doors down from where Pete's Barbershop used to be, and now there's more parking in the back. It's a great place, a haircut's 20$, and you really can't beat that price in this area. I've been coming here since I moved to Thousand Oaks from the east coast back in May 2020. Both Gil and Martha are really good at what they do. As of early September 2021 you do need a mask while inside, but that's obviously a given. Can't promote these people enough. read more
