Worst dentist. She is not professional, and makes my kids feel uncomfortable. She double charges in insurance, so beware!

As someone who was traumatized at a young age by my local pediatric dentist, I understand all too…read morewell the significance of having a dentist who goes above and beyond for children when it comes to something important, like teeth. We went to another family dentistry across town (they were also exceptional in treatment of my kids, I still go there for myself) but since they caught a cavity they sent us to White & Johnson, knowing they could handle my oldest kids anxiety. I am beyond grateful to have such an amazing staff to work with my kids. The layout is efficient, the teamwork that I have witnessed during our appointments is flawless , and bedside manner is second to none- they sing songs, talk to the kids throughout cleanings to explain what they're doing and reassure them, and are completely transparent about everything upfront with parents. The only crying my anxiety-prone child did was in the wilmington office, as they tried to get the gas mask on him (he ultimately had to have his cavity taken care of at the hospital under general anesthesia) but even having gone through that, he is not at all scared of coming back. THAT is how I know they're doing everything right. While we do spend a bit more money here than we did elsewhere, but it certainly shows in the quality of care our kids receive.

What an experience. For clarification, I visited their clinic twice, once for a painful broken…read moretooth, and later for a crown. When I went in for the broken tooth, the hygienist was fantastic, she's the only reason I am offering two stars, instead of a one-star review. When I went in for my crown, I don't know what the dentist (Dr Sipes) did but it was 100x more painful than the root canal (I got elsewhere). I begged the dentist to stop doing whatever was causing so much pain, but she said she would not. I was sobbing and felt victimized. There was nothing I could do. Once the crown was done, she said something along the lines of an apology. In truth, I was too traumatized to hear her words, I just wanted to go home. I paid my bill and left. Weeks later I get a call asking me to schedule a cleaning and other things. I told them I was not interested in coming back to their clinic because I had such a terrible experience. Today I get a bill in the mail, and a text message telling me that I owe them more money. Saying that the payment I made when I left the clinic after my crown "may have been off a little after insurance processed the claim". Seems fishy to me. I hope other patients have a better experience than I did.

I only offer two stars. Even though I loved my dentist and the staff I received horrible work…read more I had two crowns done here and both have failed in under two years of having them. My new dentist said it is due to improper fitting and now I have to get new ones that insurance will not cover because they only cover one within a five year period per tooth. When I contacted family dental, they said they have a two year warranty on their crowns, but only to cover broken or cracked crowns not decay underneath caused by ill fitting crowns. So now I have to pay completely out of pocket to get new crowns that fit correctly and that should have fit in the first place. Mind you I've had issues and tooth pain since getting these crowns and they always said there were no issues. Anyway save your money and go to a dentist who has good reviews on crowns! Don't double pay like I'm having to do! Again very nice people in office but crappy work!

Have been going back to Eastern Carolina Dental for about the last 10 months. We tried another…read more"chain" dental office here in Jacksonville, but are glad we're back at Eastern Carolina. Very helpful & friendly staff. Good at listening & problem solving.

I originally posted a month ago but took it down thinking I should give them another visit since…read morethis was a first occurrence. But, now today I receive a certified mailed letter (MIND YOU) that they are withdrawing from further care for my family's dental needs. So, my original comment will go back up and stay up and WILL NOT COME BACK DOWN AND YOU CAN SEE EVERYONE HOW THEY CAN BE. 4/29/2025 Post: Very unhappy with our services lately since Dr. Whitley has became part of their practice. He does not put the patient first. My daughter had an appt. yesterday and instead of him seeing her like we were originally scheduled after being rescheduled due to them because of spring break and they wanted off he let his secretary for billing (don't know her exact billet) see us instead and didn't even talk or speak to us after I had to jump through hoops after requesting off work the prior week and then rearranging my sons schedule so he can get my daughter and bring her to the clinic and me hurry and leave work to meet them there so I can talk with him about my daughters teeth and then he doesn't even see her or me. Very disappointing and disrespectful. Then the billing lady tells me that the part that I signed before that was $1100 for her teeth is now going to be $2000 and they wanted off to do it under the table and don't send it to the insurance company. Yeah. Okay. So, I have been going to this dental office since early 2000s and never ever got treated like this before. Believe me, me and my family will be looking for a new dental office and you and your family should be as well. Because, they are out to charge you for everything you got and not to help you at all. Believe that. Sad part is, I love the front staff. This letter informed us that our family's dental care would be withdrawn, the issue only involved my daughter and me. My two adult sons, one has different insurance, nor my other son, my husband, my innocent daughter, had anything to do with the matter. Eastern Carolina Dental, you've outdone yourselves.

Got seen and did my X-rays got sat in the chair and seen the dentist. I was there to get my bottom dentures started. First off he comes in and ask if I want to pull my bottom teeth, I said yes pull them all I'd like to just finish what I started, then he proceeded to ask if I had top dentures.... At this point I'm confused so I move on. He told me we would need to get my insurance approval perfect great fine with that. Don't really have a choice, next He goes off and says let's just do the surgery pull all the bottom teeth then heal up then submit the request to approve my dentures. I said absolutely not. Get approved then do the extractions around the time the temporary dentures would be in so I had them to wear. So I could heal and eat. After that he agreed to do that but we would need to do a mold of my bottom teeth. So we go ahead and do so, in the process he brings this liquid mold half way down the hall to the room I was in proceeded to make the worst mess all over my face shirt and pants. I ask if there was anything I could use to clean up the mess he told me no that I needed to use what I could see and not dig through anything. No water to rinse my mouth nothing. After all that I go to talk about process and what it looked like because I know all places are different, receptionist and dentist both said they would numb my bottom jaw and do full extraction while awake. I said HELL NO. absolutely not. You are extracting my entire bottom jaw, wisdom teeth that are impacted coming in sideways and you wanna just "numb my jaw" while fully awake while you yank out everything. Nooooo. The dentist got all rude and started to refuse me a referral to an oral surgeon. I left. That was the worst customer service and dentist I've ever been too. Thankfully I have a few people I know who are dentist and they said oral surgery like I would need for my teeth being numb is extremely dangerous and no recommendation at all for the course of action. I will never be going here again.
