We had an excellent experience with Gilligan's. The checkin process was simple & the boat and tube were ready for us when we arrived. I can't say enough positive about the employees who were there from the beginning to the end. Kind, friendly, funny & knowledgeable are only a few of the words I could use to describe them. The boat wasn't brand new, but it was clean & well kept. After reading a couple other reviews, I was a bit hesitant to reserve our boat with them, but I'm so grateful we did. Their fees are fair & the equipment was fine. p.s. The "rocks" referred to in a couple other reviews are actually concrete blocks that work excellent as anchors. It is not an uncommon practice to use them.

The beds are horribly uncomfortable. You will feel every single spring in them. My body was really sore the next day and I am not old! I would recommend that you bring some extra blankets to try to make the bed softer because it's really hard to get to sleep and honestly almost painful. The bed was also very noisy, so if you are tossing and turning because of the extreme firmness, that will also keep you away. It's also really, really dark at night. There needs to be some exterior motion detector lights so people can see to get in the cabin. We just used our phone flash lights but you can't really even tell which cabin is yours in the dark (at first arrival) so I would advise them to at least install a motion light near the door so you can see the lock. We also had very luke warm water in the shower. I can get by with that, but others might not. We also had some wasps and a stink bug in the cabin, but that's to be expected in the woods and they do provide a fly swatter. If I was going to stay here again, I would want a different cabin due to the bed. Otherwise, it was fine.

I thought that I would catch more fish but I was wrong. For the record. I didn't know my fishing license didn't carry over from state to state lol. THE MORE TOU KNOW! Please make sure that you buy fishing license when you cross over state lines. Lol as I didn't know my Kentucky license for fishing was no good. The good thing was that the game wardens were nice enough to issue us a warning. All sowed is to buy one online while they waited. Which made it awesome. I thank them kindly for their patience and respect. We spent the whole day on the lake and it was so relaxing and fun. I know that being on a boat all day is great but no one warns you about your body adjusting to being in the boat all day. You feel like your on the boat hours after you have been off. It's like being drunk without liquor. There are plenty of fishing places to be had and they even rent you a tube if you need it. Then again they can rent you out everything. Soooooo there is that. If you don't want to go far but want to relax on a wonderful lake. This is your place. I recommend staying on a boat all day fish and relaxing and taking a swim. It's worth the trip. Stay awesome Batman

He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

The weather was enjoyable in late September and the shaded top deck had 360° views. The crew were friendly and attentive, the boat clean and in good shape. There is a drink menu available online, the prices were reasonable and the selection extensive. Nathan was our guide and we recommend them. They were knowledgeable and got a few laughs out of us. The sites seen along the way were lovely and some only accessible by boat. Passing under the bridges and by nature was made more fun knowing their history, we also saw the effects of the recent flood. We didn't see the distillery, but that might have been a different tour, different season or a result of the flood, but we got to see the singing bridge, which we were told would be deconstructed in time. We had a great time aboard the Kentucky River Boat and would return. Be sure to tip your tour guide as ours added to the experience!

Upon arriving, we were 30 minutes early, Central Time, so we didn't get to check in yet, though I think we still got checked in prior to 4pm. That was fine. We came from Eastern Time Zone, Sunnyside of Louisville. I had requested a view of lake when I made reservations. A view of the marina was the best they could do, I guess. Upon entering our smoke free room, I found an ashtray full of butts and a lighter on our balcony. I get the rooms are smoke free and perhaps balcony can be utilized for smoking, but why leave butts and lighter on balcony? I called the front desk regarding this and they said they would address it. I then found a credit card, gift card and a pill in one of the drawers. I gave those items to the young lady I met earlier at the front desk. My wife asked her where we could get ice and she said she didn't know. Back to that later. We ate dinner prior to arriving at the "Resort" since we had time to kill. We ate at Little Dave's which was fine. See my review on that establishment. The pool was open when we arrived but closed not long after. We drove around the "Resort" park and found the beach was closed with No Swimming signs posted. Hmm. There is a trend started here. Wifey and I like playing mini golf and sometimes disk golf when we visit State parks. It was quite hot during our stay so we went to play a relaxed game of mini golf our first night just after sunset. We could see during the first half of the course and saw a maintenance person drive up, get out of the cart and appear to go to a power box of some sort on the opposite side of the course we were at. Wifey asked me to ask him if he could put the lights on, but I didn't feel like yelling to him and told my wife he saw us and would surely put lights on if they worked. Nope. Wrong answer. We played the second half of game in the dark. The following day we learned the pool was closed for maintenance. The trend continues. We decided to get out of dodge and the "Resort" to find something to do. Apparently, there used to be a Nature Center on the "Resort," but no longer. No pool, no beach and the mini golf course needed cleanup from debris on it. I stopped by the front desk, told the young lady where guests could find ice and her mature co-worker agreed with my comment. I then asked if the mini golf course lights were inoperable. I was told they should work. I said we would play later on when we returned from a day out of the "Resort," if the lights were on. We visited Leitchfield and had a fair day shopping and dining at Bluegrass BBQ. You can read that review also. We didn't care to try the restaurant on the "Resort" since everything was trending negative, plus the Park's restaurant was voted last for dining in the area. Go figure. When we arrived back from our trip to Leitchfield, we saw the lights were already on, though it was still light out. I thought perhaps the trend is getting better, but wait for it. When we went to golf, my wife said it looks like they cut the grass around the mini golf course. She was correct. It was clear they cut the grass, because the grass was blown all over the debris that was still present from the day before. That course could be nice with a little TLC. I thought to ask the front desk for a blower to help out the maintenance people, but didn't. I figured the answer would be no. I had been told a work order needed to go in to get the lights on at the mini golf course. I'd like to say the AC worked fine in the room. The flashing lights also worked in the room all night. You may want to bring dark blinders when it is time to sleep. My wife said the flashing lights were like fireworks going off all night. If you are a tall person, be prepared to hunch down to get under the shower head and bend way over to use the sink. Who decides where to install things at this "Resort?" Our last item to mention before ending this review is on our way back from the mini golf course, the light for the walkway between parking lot and our room was out. My wife said, "It is aweful dark on this walkway." I told her the LED light on top of the pole is out. Perhaps they need some more maintenance people or a new supervisor. I wasn't even looking for things at this "Resort," but they stuck out like sore thumbs. My wife and I have visited every Indiana State Park with lodging and several Kentucky State Parks with lodging. This one is hands-down the worst. Calling it a "Resort," is laughable. I think if I came to go boating, it may be a bit of a different perspective, but I feel a little reluctant to rent a boat at the State Park due to the trend it displays. Hopefully, the Park superintendent, or whatever they are called, can address these issues so future visitors have a better stay.

There are within sight of each other. The store is basically stocked to support the campers but also the people renting boats who may have forgot some critical needs. For such a tiny store they have managed to stock just about every need one could think of. And no matter how prepared you think you are, it seems you always forget something or run out of some supplies. This store has been a lifesaver for us. We needed a smaller styrofoam cooler to take on a boat instead of our full size cooler on wheels - check, they had it. We needed something to go on a sunburn - check, they had it. And it was a great product, an aloe gel with lidocaine. We forgot to bring the cereal, brought the milk, but forgot the cereal - check, they had eight kinds to choose from including our favorite, Frosted Flakes. Last year when we brought the granddaughters, they had all that weird packaged candy they like. And of course, they have three giant freezers of bagged ice. At $2.50 a bag, I think that's pretty reasonable all things considered. Some prices are high but fair for being remote. Kroger is six miles away.
