This place's customer service and management are almost non existent. Don't rent here unless you like problems.

I'd rather watch paint dry than rent from this place. I'd rather put my hand in a meat grinder. I'd rather go to the mall.

Fourwinds Lakeside & Marina - Sunset view from my balcony

    Fourwinds Lakeside & Marina

    (89 reviews)

Welcome back to 1972 when The Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina was built!…read more This motel is a step back into the past with no internet, sculpted carpeting, a wall made entirely of rocks, dark hallways, toilet paper as thin and rough as sandpaper, and what looked like a popcorn ceiling! The photos online are NOTHING like the real thing. This is not a fancy place. That said, the bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean, and it was generally restful and quiet. We were able to check in early (at 1 pm) for free when we called the day we were coming in. Thank you! There was a gorgeous view of the lake in our lake-front room but on our patio, there was only 1 chair, and the dividers between patios didn't come all the way down which meant there wasn't much privacy. The internet was out most of our stay (2 days), though the staff tried hard to fix it. Turns out, the modem was above the ceiling tiles! Most of the staff was very responsive and friendly, including the cleaning people. We were able to get towels to the pool from them though there were no towels by the pool and very few towels in our bathroom. Parking was easy and plentiful. The pool was gorgeous and warm and lovely to swim in. There were a number of leaves in it, but, other than that, it was nice to swim in! The workout room was closed during the time we were there, but, we chose to swim instead which felt great. Tips: 1. If you want to check in earlier than 4, call the same day and ask if you can. 2. The Fourwinds Inn is inside a state park which means you will be paying $7 that you get back after your stay. They also give you a flier with your name and room number so that you can go in and out of the park without paying again. 3. Bring food and bottled water! The rooms have antiquated looking tea and instant coffee -- and if you're looking for anything more, it's not going to be right. 4. The restaurant gets horrible reviews and it's very expensive. They also don't have many or any gluten-free options. For food, I would recommend places like FARMBloomington, BRU Burger for lunch/dinner and Vivencia for breakfast. 5. They do have a kiosk that sells a few snack items but it's not very well-stocked. It would be nice if the hotel had bottled water in the rooms (for free) OR if they brought in a coffee company like Tinker or Hopscotch to sell coffee and breakfast items. They would make a killing! This is the kind of place you stay when you want to rent a boat (apparently, it's 25% off during the week), or want to avoid the Square during college move in or move out times.

I had the opportunity to stay here a year ago for a work function, and then more recently for a quick getaway. For its age, the rooms are pretty spacious. The rooms have been remodeled (although the paint on the wall of one room was peeling). Check in and out is quick and easy. The restaurant is seasonal so it was closed this last visit. The previous visit, the food was good and priced well. The staff accommodated 50 of us with no problem. As the property is adjacent to the marina, access is easy. There is an indoor pool as well. There are restaurants off site close by (I recommend the golf course). I would definitely recommend a lakeside room for a great view.

We had…read morenever been on a boat together before, and I was kind of wondering what I had gotten ourselves into when we stepped aboard. The thoughts running through my head included: How the heck does a boat work? How am I going to shuttle us along safely when I've never driven a boat before? And other anxious boating thoughts. But luckily, Paradise makes it easy to rent a vessel and take it out on the lake, even if you've never driven a boat before. First, when you book your reservation, you are directed to watch a long video about the dos and don't of boating on a lake. Then, the kind people at Paradise go over the rules again when you're there before you shuttle off. It turns out that boating isn't super difficult, as long as you follow some common-sense rules! And also, always wear a life jacket! We rented a pontoon, which is great if you have kids with you because this vessel has a canopy that provides lots of shade. Kids can't be in the sun all day, you know! The pontoons also have lots of storage space so you have places to put all of your snacks and extra supplies. We spent about three hours out on the lake, and by the end of the journey, I felt like I was almost a boating pro! Renting from Paradise was a great experience from start to finish, and I'll definitely be renting from them again the next time we want to spend time boating on Lake Monroe.

There are within sight of each other. The store is basically stocked to support the campers but also the people renting boats who may have forgot some critical needs. For such a tiny store they have managed to stock just about every need one could think of. And no matter how prepared you think you are, it seems you always forget something or run out of some supplies. This store has been a lifesaver for us. We needed a smaller styrofoam cooler to take on a boat instead of our full size cooler on wheels - check, they had it. We needed something to go on a sunburn - check, they had it. And it was a great product, an aloe gel with lidocaine. We forgot to bring the cereal, brought the milk, but forgot the cereal - check, they had eight kinds to choose from including our favorite, Frosted Flakes. Last year when we brought the granddaughters, they had all that weird packaged candy they like. And of course, they have three giant freezers of bagged ice. At $2.50 a bag, I think that's pretty reasonable all things considered. Some prices are high but fair for being remote. Kroger is six miles away. They aren't gouging you like some places outside the State Recreation Area.

(And the lake isn't as busy) As someone who has boated on Monroe my whole life, jet skis created a whole new experience of the lake. I had never driven one, but it was super simple. Next time I'll rent one for longer. :) No complaints in regards to the staff. It's never a bad idea to take photo/video of the jet ski or boat before you head out on the water though. They were very thorough with us and I felt prepared! You may want to note that a $7 fee is required to get into the park where they are located- unless you hold the state park pass!

Antler Log Cabins Vacation Rentals - The dining room at the Angler's Cabin!

My husband and I just recently visited the Antler Log Cabins to celebrate his birthday. We've had…read morea lot of changes in our lives recently and have realized that getting away from the daily grind and stepping out into nature is truly healing for the both of us. If serenity, peace and nature are what you seek, this is a good place to start. We arrived near dusk and while the directions to the address were clear and straightforward, once you arrive at the property, it isn't extremely clear where each of the cabins are located. One sign said "Anglers Serenity something" and I recognized that Anglers was the name of our cabin, but I didn't know the names of the other cabins, so it was a bit confusing. I saw the "road" (and I use that term loosely) leading down towards a wooded area and I became afraid. It was steep and narrow and my Lincoln MKZ is not exactly what one would consider and all-terrain vehicle, so I told my husband to take the wheel (along with Jesus)! In my opinion, that road is dangerous and if there were ice or snow present, I might have decided to abort mission. While booking, I did note that one location mentioned that you had to have 4-wheel drive for that particular cabin, but not the Anglers where we were staying. After making it to our cabin safely, we decided that we wouldn't be leaving until sun-up the next day, so we got settled in. The cabin was lovely and cozy and clean (for the most part). I did notice a few cobwebs on the multitude of antlers and when I unrolled one of the towels left in the basket by the fireplace (meant to be used while utilizing the hot tub) there were long, straight, light-colored hairs entangled in them. My hair is short, curly and dark and my husband has a very low haircut. The only other complaint that we had was that the window over the kitchen sink had no window covering. I could not help but to feel like someone was standing there peering at us from the darkness each night. The highlight of our stay was definitely the hot tub. I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to soak in an outdoor hot tub on a chilly Autumn or Winter day. I can finally tick that off of my bucket list! The hot tub was set to a delightful 102 degrees Fahrenheit and that was perfect for the 40 degree weather. When we first stepped in, it felt too hot, but once fully submerged it proved to be perfect! We will definitely return once it is warmer so that we can go fishing in the pond and use the paddle boat! This place is ideal for people who want tranquility, but don't like being "out in the boonies"! We popped into a Target location just about 12 minutes away for provisions and there were lots of options for food located in nearby Bloomington.

The ease in renting and getting access was extremely easy. When we stayed here we also made reservations to rent a boat with Fourwinds Marina on Lake Monroe. The 21 mile drive from the cabin to the marina takes only 37 minutes. Add this to their list of options of things to do and see in the Bloomington area. I grilled steaks outside on their grill while she cooked the rest of the meal in the kitchen. We had a great meal, because the owners had prepped us very well. They tell you exactly everything you need to bring and what they already provide. There were no last minute stops or hunting down a grocery. As you can see from their photos, their cabin is beautiful. I'm sure all the others are just as nice. We will definitely be returning in the very near future.
