Disappointed. The food here is usually good. However this time I had a terrible experience. I took my brother out to lunch and we arrived at 12:20pm. We got our drinks and said we needed a couple minutes to decide on what we wanted. At this point there were two tables with people in the restaurant and one had their food already. At 12:40 a group of 12 people arrived and were seated. As we were waiting for our order to get taken we watched the waitress take the order of the 12 person party. Finally at 1:00pm our order was taken and the waitress apologized for the wait. At 1:20 the table with the party of 12 received all of their food. The waitress stopped by again and apologized again saying that she asked the cook to make our sandwiches first. This is the point where I asked for the bill. The waitress brought the bill and it was $51 for the food that we did not receive yet. I thought maybe they would take some of the price of due to the situation, but they did not since I didn't complain and was trying to keep my cool. Long story short, we got our food at 1:40 in take out boxes and I did still leave a 20% tip. We were late getting back to work and still didn't have time to eat our food. Since we moved to the area, I've been searching for a really good bar burger. I played in bands for 28 years and traveled all over. A GOOD bar burger has a great sear, a little snap to the patty, and (God forbid) just the right amount of fat. That's exactly what you'll find at Gimmick's! Good wings, nice crispy fries, great burger! My wife loved the French Dip. One of the few places I've found the Vanilla/Java porter I enjoy. Service was great! Friendly without being intrusive, main course didn't show up in the middle of our appetizer like some places. If you're looking for hauté cuisine, you're obviously going somewhere else. Hey, something local and a little different! A group of us went here and started in the bar. The sandwiches and nachos were really good! Friends got burgers and they looked delicious as well! After drinks and food, we did the putt putt course. I think it was about $5.75. Cute little pirate themed course. Then we did the laser maze. $3. Really short but so much fun! We ran through that a few times. Bumper cars was awesome with 6 of us. At one point, our cars kept spinning and we couldn't figure out how to stop it. They had bowling, an arcade and pool tables too. Incredibly disappointing. I was feeling like a burger, so I decided on the jalapeno burger with beer battered fries. The fries were okay, but a little soggy. They were well seasoned though. The burger on the other hand...if I were confrontational at all, it would have been sent back. The menu says they serve all the burgers medium-well. Ha! This burger was way overcooked and dry. It has the consistency of finely packed sawdust. It also had very little flavor and weirdly, the bottom bun was significantly larger than the top....odd. I would avoid this place for burgers. You're better off hitting up the McDs down the road. Easily one of the top 5 worst burgers I've ever had. read more

Gimmick's has some pretty darn good food. When a joint serves fries by the pound, I'm an instant fan. My friends rave of the pita sandwiches. This place is hit or miss I've had some great food, chicken wrap and grilled cheese which are not that hard to mess up but are tastier then average here. Not so great, roast beef Au jus and nachos.....the au jus was a flavorless broth with what looked like grease drippings from the grill, and the nachos were more chips then toppings I make better at home especially for the price! read more

This has to be one of my favorite go to places in Midland! The food is always excellent, I always end up with one of they gyros or wraps, the nachos are HUGE but well worth it if you have more than one person and they never had an issue making them with chicken for me as I do not eat red meat. The staff is very friendly and fun, the atmosphere is always inviting and it always seems like the perfect place to end up. During the day they always have some game on for everyone to enjoy and in the evening later in the week they even have what I call Scary-oke....although I would never get up and sing, it is always a good time to sit around with friends have a couple drinks and enjoy the people that have the guts to get up and belt out a song or 3. You often would not think of eating at bar/restaurant inside of a bowling alley, but the decor is very log cabin and provides a great place to just hang out with friends. Once you are finished eating you can always bowl or play a game of indoor golf! Either way Gimmicks is one of the best little spots in Midland, as horrible as the Moose Chips probably are for your heath, they are amazing! Its alright, the building holds memories when there used to be a different resturant there, my father used to work there. Now though, if we go, its because we also want to play pool or bowl and we get some food. There is not much for vegetarians, the fries, pita sandwich or pits piza thats about it thought. The servis is ok sometimes, we have been there when we get great servies and one time we left no tip because the waitress was rude and barily ever came over i think we had to go up to the bar four times just to get drink refills and to ask if she was ever going to serve us. Its alright but SOOO not worth it if you are just going there to eat. read more

Of all the times I have been there, it has been iffy. The food is great, and is well worth the price. The portions are awesome, I always leave with food. But the service has always been poor. Some days there hasn't been enough servers for the lunch and dinner rushes. Disregarding the service, I definitely recommend Gimmicks. Great food for a great price. read more

There was a previous review stating this is hit and miss. That is exactly correct. I have had pizza there about five times. A couple of the times the pizza was very good. However, the other couple it was very very greasy. We went there for dinner last night. The nachos were mediocre at best. They double cheese on them. Meaning they will put a layer of chips down, put cheese on and then put more chips on with the toppings and more cheese. The nachos were nothing to brag about. I also had chili with cheese on it. The chili tasted as if it came out of a can. I think this place just employs too many different cooks which is the reason for the hit and miss. However, it is not as if the restaurant has hard dishes to create. These are simple dishes to screw up. read more
