After working in public schools for 12 years, my main objective is for my children to be in a healthy & happy environment. I could go on & on. The atmosphere is lovely and the learning environment is strong; however, the level of communication was extremely lacking. Our child is spirited and likely has ADHD, and the school was not equipped to accommodate or support her needs. During her second year, we were told the Montessori method might not be ideal, but we were assured the school would pay for someone to observe her and work with the teachers to create a plan to better support her. While this gave us hope, that observation never happened, and no plan was put in place. We were completely caught off guard when attempting to re-enroll and were informed that a final decision had already been made not to accept our child into Kindergarten. At no point was this communicated to us in advance. Our child attended the school from ages 3-5, an age when children are still learning self-regulation, yet we were told the Montessori model requires children to already possess this skill. By the time we were notified, enrollment at other schools had closed, leaving us with very limited options. In my opinion, this is not a good fit for spirited children or those with learning differences. The lack of follow-through and poor communication significantly impacted our family's educational path. If you suspect your child may have ADHD or needs additional support, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

Especially Mrs. Shade in the early morning. But the school felt muggy and musky smell like mildew frequently. The fees were high, mostly because of how they were all seperate and school was always closing which added additional fees. When school was released for the aftercare.. About 2-5.. I would pick up my son in a small room with a group of all ages and a very young person whom I did not know as the adult. This young person I think is a son of a teacher? Not sure. Always someone different. I felt uncomfortable with this mostly because my son was 2 and id prefer to keep the groups desperate by ages similar to one another.

It's stressful, isn't it!? My son was in an in home daycare I loved from 12 weeks old but as he approached 4, I knew I was going to be faced with a very difficult decision. Where do I send him next? He has a September birthday so I wanted him to go to someplace I could count on for VPK eventually. But I also needed to feel confident in their leadership, the curriculum, and the facility itself. We toured many places and met with several directors but nothing felt "right" other than Ohana. Here are our reasons! 1. Location. For us, this is close to our house so my son doesn't spend an hour in the car each day. 2. Cost. Their tuition is very reasonable for the area! 3. Staff. Kara, the director, is super chill, has a masters degree, and just leaves you with the feeling that your kid will be in good hands. She was great during the tours and answered all of our questions. My son's teacher is also great. Ms. Amber is communicative, positive, loving, and helpful. 4. Curriculum. They provided me the info on their curriculum so I could do my own research. This was helpful as we chose between preschool because I knew what to expect educationally. 5. Facility. The preschool is CLEAN and cute! (I mean who doesn't love turtles!?) 6. Reasonable expectations. They are realistic about what to expect from kids behaviorally and developmentally. They don't call you for every little thing. They don't send your kid home because he sneezed twice. They get the woes of a working parent. 7. The extras. They have a provider come in to teach soccer (at an extra cost), they do school pictures, they do class birthday parties, they encourage parental involvement (reasonably), they have special theme days. They keep it fun! 8. 2 months in my son is SO HAPPY. He asks to go everyday. Even on days they're closed he wants to go to school. He loves his teacher. He's made friends. He's learning quickly. On the plus side, I think it's great for children to be exposed to different languages and cultures. Even though the director was cagey about teacher training, I know for certain that the teachers we saw are not Montessori trained. Good luck getting those types of questions answered. The classrooms themselves do not have the traditional Montessori sensory/manipulative materials. The materials were sparse generic and not traditional Montessori. There were very few books accessible and what was there was tattered and dirty. Again, Montessori inspired, at best.
