She seems very familiar with military-style cuts, which is why I believe all of Cornell's ROTC cadets come to her, but as a veteran that's what I'm used to and it feels great afterward. She's also very quick when it comes to having people waiting on her, if they even wait at all. Love all of the sports and military memorabilia and patch collections on the walls every time I walk in! I looked online for a hair-cutting place that did both men and women (I am a woman). I didn't want a fancy-looking salon. Narrative has a lovely, old-fashioned look and feel. Their web site said their prices were $40, $45, or $50.00. MUCH too expensive, but I realized I was paying for ambience. My barber was Michael Clark. (One got whoever was free when you arrived.) I showed him 2 sets of drawings of the cut I wanted (front and profiles, the difference between the 2 sets being where I wanted the main curve to be: a little higher or a little lower. To begin with the outcome: The drawings clearly showed that the hair should be even with my chin. It ended up, in fact, 2 inches too short...... just below my ears. The cutting experience was very weird. On 4 occasions, he grabbed the hair at the very top of my head and repeatedly pulled it up and down, as if he were washing something on a scrub board. I don't know what on earth that was about. The way he was separating strands and cutting was quite baffling to me. There seemed to be no organization to it. Unfortunately, I was unaware of how short it was getting. I was focusing on it covering my ears. At the end, it didn't even fall nicely and I had to do some repairs when I went home. Unfortunately it was too short to do all the repairs it needed. He had paid no attention to my drawings or instructions. I knew what the price was before I sat down in the chair. This is embarrassing. I paid $70.00 for this cut.

However,…read moreafter three visits for three different services (1 keratin, 1 trim, and 1 blowout+ trim) it's now entirely evident to me that Color Me Red is not worth hours of sitting in a chair. I got my first ever keratin treatment by Stylist Potter before an event out of state. By the time I washed my hair, four days later, my hair was almost as curly as it was before the treatment. I called CMR later that day and was able to connect with the stylist, who said she was busy and would call me back. Two days went by before I decided to check-in again. I explained that I was out of town for a month and wasn't expecting a refund or any magic cure. I was also willing to send before and after pictures to clarify exactly how curly my hair was almost immediately after the treatment. Rather, i explained, I called because wanted to see what products I could use (other than the shampoo and conditioner I was up-sold) to preserve my treatment. During this second call I was again met with "I have your number and I will call you back..." That call never came. A $360 expense should have lasted longer than a week. At the very least, some follow-through with customer contact should have been made. Was it inexperience? Or was the stylist uneducated about the product? For reference, I went to a stylist at Transformations in Ithaca who listened to my CMR experience, and understood what procedural error was made based on my description of how the CMR stylist did the treatment. As of today, I've never had any other Keratin treatment last less than 11 months. In other visits to Color Me Red for a "trim" and one blowout with a trim I walked in with shoulder length hair and walked out with a bob I never asked for. I probably should have said something in the moment, but there's always that bit of anxiety as a woman of color especially in a yt salon. During both visits I was told it would be just an inch, yet once I was spun around to look in the mirror I saw a trim of 4 inches or more. It was never brought to my attention that I would need such an extensive cut, especially when I regularly get trims, so my ends aren't split. It's disappointing to feel like someone is entitled to doing whatever they think looks good versus listening to a customers preference for a short trim. Rating 1 star because the stylists are decently friendly... although one does love to rant a little too much about how her adult daughter hates making friends with other women?? Tldr; Color Me Red is not worth your money. There are better high-end salons that have stylists who are actually knowledgeable.

The atmosphere is relaxed and far from being pretentious. As far as my manicurist Krystal's skill, she is so accommodating with scheduling and is really flawless in her application of product for gel nails or dips.
