We arrived in Pugwash on a Sunday morning on a shopping and sightseeing trip around north shore area and were drawn to a pretty home set back from the road in a setting of dense green foliage. We went inside and admired and planned to purchase a handful of items (jewelry, a dog collar, souvenir) when one of our party needed a bathroom. We asked the two young women behind a counter if they had a public bathroom and were told they had nothing that customers were permitted to use and that we would have to drive several miles away. This wasn't an option and we explained that. Same reply. We dropped our selected purchases and abruptly left. We were angry, and in reviewing our visit at first decided to give them one star, and maybe we should have. We believe that kind of behavior to be quite unacceptable. (We finally located a porta-potty behind the closed library several miles away.) But we like the products for sale and the store's use of local artisans. So two it is.....

The new owner is equally as cool as Rick, although there is no canine presence, which is probably a good thing in the PC world we seem to live in now. The new store is completely different from the old Market but also quite the same. You can still buy papers, bongs, flags, t shirts, pins, buttons, and much more. Records are back too, in a big way, and there are even turntables available (not always). Remember, this isn't 1985, and this isn't the flea market. The prices reflect that. Get over it and enjoy yourself inside this gem of a shop, and bring your blunt smoking/record buyer friends too.

I picked up a stone bead bracelet that had a stone sloth on it, my wife's "spirit animal" and then another item for my son who was not with us. The choices were good and they had some additional sale on a cup at a discount because I bought over a certain amount, I didn't need another cup, but nice for someone to throw in a discount. The girl who worked that day was friendly, but didn't laugh at my dad jokes...oh well. A nice place to pick up stuff while in PEI.

This downtown Charlottetown store celebrates Anne in some surprisingly good ways. We say surprising because this isn't your too-typical souvenir shop with lots to ticky-tacky items for sale. Even the Anne dolls are as cute as can be, though we wonder if you have to have red-hair to work here, as it seemed to us. But there are grown-up souvenirs too, among them some attractive pieces of clothing (yes, definitely some gloriously old-fashioned Anne dresses) and things like exquisite English teapots, saucers and the like. We thought it was most appealing, and even the bumper stickers were sort of classy if that doesn't sound positively peculiar. Anyhow, the store is well worth a visit; if you don't know Anne, you should.
