On another visit I checked out Enfes Kebabs...the food served here is Turkish...as I walked around there booth I knew I needed that Doner Kebab. The guys working here are really helpful...almost too helpful...they are constantly trying to get you to order...I understand that they are in a food court and they are trying to land me on the hook like a hungry fish. There booth is in the center of the food court, so they have a really amazing spot. The Doner Pita is a like an American Gyro except really really good. The meat here is real meat that is roasting on a fire spit, unlike in America where we have a giant piece of processed meat...yuck!!! Whenever I come to Sydney for business I make sure to walk over to Darling Harbour to do a little shopping and to get some lunch here. The food is really good. There are other Turkish delights here but I am in love with the Doner and I am not willing to change.

What they call kebabs is what we would call a wrap and these are sorta like a gyro with meat carved off a slow turning meat thing that they put into thin bread, load it with veggies and sauce and hot press it for you. The standouts of our meal were the calamari, which was fried nicely so as not to be squishy but also not too crusted with oil either, and the spanikopita which was flawless. Overall, I can't see going back here just for sides, and the sandwiches and salads are all overpriced. If you want a quick Greek snack though, this is the only place nearby, so it's good enough in a pinch. Service is friendly as others have mentioned, but there aren't many tables and the hostess seats you but doesn't take your order (no menus either, only on the board behind the register), which confused us and others in line. We went on a Monday afternoon and there was not much queue to speak of, but I also wouldn't wait in the massive line I've seen formed on Friday/Saturday nights.

Fatima's on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills (nearing Redfern), is one of the good ones. Many a time I have stumbled in from the Norfolk across the way in search of some quick, cheap eats. I wouldn't even venture to recount the details (of anything) on those occasions but I have, however, been to Fatima's whilst sober. And eating a sober kebab is something I very rarely do. The freshness and zest of their hommus is worth noting all on its own. Sometimes I take home a whole tub of it (for $7, I believe), to eat with veggies during the week. Indeed, the baba ghanouj, tahini, and eggplant they served were all way sour for my tastes. The filo on the lady fingers was wet as all the food is preprepared and sitting under a heat lamp. The falafel was solid, but not particularly seasoned or flavorful, and with so many enticing smells wafting down this street from other Lebanese eateries, I'd keep exploring. Nice folks work here, but atmosphere wise, the dining room is dark and has a bit of a smell.

Unlike others here, I found the service friendly and efficient. The food was awesome, in a deeply carnivorous way. Spiced and grilled meat, served with traditional Macedonian accompaniments: fried bread, capsicum dip, cabbage and potato salads, hot chills in a garlic sauce. I can't give you specifics, because it was all ordered in Serbian, with much shouting back and forth. All questions from both parties appeared to receive affirmative responses and the food was plentiful. Even with abundant imported beer, the cost was about $65 a head, so it's very good value. If you feel like a friendly, family-owned restaurant serving unusual, not to say challenging dishes, give it a go. Perhaps it's not for everyone, but we all had a great time.
