I hadn't been to DMV in some time and I needed to get a Real ID. I had thought I'd lost my license in another state, and just to log on to the DMV website was a challenge. Once you are in though, it was pretty easy to schedule an appt. Big changes have happened since I was last in one. You can schedule an appt and your wait time isn't too long. Yesterday I found out that Nurse Ratched is alive and well at the Gladstone DMV. I submitted my Handicapped Parking application at the intake desk where I was passive sadistically told it was invalid. So. . . Today I took that SAME Handicapped Parking application to the Lake Oswego branch DMV office- and now I have a Handicapped Parking permit. What bothers me the most about yesterday is I met the kindest person in the Gladstone DMV parking lot (a wheelchair user) whose application had been refused TWO times. I was happy with the service I received here at the Gladstone DMV. I didn't have an appointment, and the wait was pretty much all day. But, the system was organized and easy to follow. I was able to figure I had a 3-4 hour wait. So, I just checked in and got my number, then left and did some errands and ate lunch. I came back after 2 hours and the board said I had about an hour till my number was called. I waited and it was exactly an hour. The system worked well, and for having to wait for 3-4 hours it was a pretty easy experience. Once I got up to the agent, she was very friendly and efficient. My whole transaction of registering an out of state vehicle took about 5 minutes. read more

Staff are friendly and proffesional which is amazing! You do not get that everywjere these days. They only have 1 person checking-in folks. That wait was long, 20 mins or so. I tried to see if I could make an appointment on-line prior to going. Could not find that option on line. It exists I just could not find it on the website. So they check you in and give you an appointment for in an hour or so. They tell you you can get coffee somewhere or wait in your car. So I wait and scan my ticket when I come back in and get called right away. It was not too bad, but to have to wait in a slow long line to only be told you have to wait an hour is dissapointing. I do think that is probably pretty fast for DMV standards, but still a good chunk of time being taken out of your day. Parking was easy to find. It was so expensive to renew my license and get a Real ID, $85.00. Can pay with card. They do not take AM EX. read more

I had an appointment and didn't have two forms of address no problem. The lady at the counter said that I come back and talk to the counter and they will prioritized me. I realized that I had registration and went back. I scanned the QR and said that my appointment is at 11:50. I thought that I would get ahead, but people before me would get called.. i heard people saying they didn't have appointments and the lady at the counter said if you come back at so and so you can be seen. At noon, I get called and the lady then tells me my birth certificate is wrong because I was born outside of state. She then tells me how it's not a real birth certificate. Which is funny because I used it for school and work but yet DMV wouldn't allow it. Not only wasted my time and lied to me. The First Lady saw it and didn't even mention it and was concerned for the address. read more

This is an all of Oregon DMV concern: there is a program called OReGO it is a Pay-by-Mile Program for Passenger Vehicles in Oregon. That's fine and dandy but you are not made aware of it until your registration renewal comes. It's worded so only an attorney can give you the specifications with complete clarity. Is it in place of the fuel tax? Maybe? Can the DEQ testers give you those specifics? Of course not, and I don't blame them for any liability issues. There is a registration for that program from a 3rd party, a plug-in device mileage tracker that takes 10 days to ship, and a monthly pay set up. Maybe if you have an all-electric vehicle you are informed of OReGO, but with my high MPG hybrid, this is the first I've heard of it. No wonder people get mad at the government. It sounds like it could save you a little money if you're a low mileage driver, but poorly communicated to the public, naturally. You try to do your part and get a low polluting, high MPG vehicle, well then tell all of Oregon drivers about the program, Dr. Braino. read more

I was out the door ten minutes after my appointment time. I expected to wait forever since it was packed full of people. I had to come back with some paperwork & there was not much of a wait. My suggestion would be if you show up early & are not at least 10 people from the front. My car doesn't have working AC and this was during the heat wave plus very long lines at the brick & motor DMV location; so I did as instructed on the Renewal Card and CALLED. And was told Yes, if you have the necessary documents. Since my Scanner wasn't working, Haley encouraged me to snap a picture of my 'Approved Car Inspection' and front/back of insurance card and email the images along with my phone number. Easy-Peasy! So to all the Naysayers, my stickers arrived five days after my call to Haley! Thank You!!! read more

By far the busiest DMV in the metro area I have never been here for less then an hour even if I arrive at opening, they have 14 numbered windows yet only have 4 opened at a time?? I feel this location is extremely understaffed and needs some new employees... The plus is you can pre register your vehicles online now ( you'll still have to take a number and wait which is ridiculous if you "pre" anything you should get to go the limited services line IMO) and check wait times for office location read more

The DMV are a machine, first in, first out. I read about the Gladstone DMV from Yelp and used it for title business. The DMV publishes real time wait times online. Gladstone runs to least delay. Go there for a short wait. By the way, I have had great service every time I have needed something solved or a question answered on the phone with the DMV. They are near a river park you could swim in! And they are near a tasty Indian food takeout! read more

I have spent 8-10 hours here since June 27th... and can I just say I've only gone 2 days in the last 2 ish months? (Which is more than most people need to go in a year). They keep losing my license in the mail (I have photo proof from USPS showing the day it was going to be in my box; it's not in the box, and it's been 3 days). All they do if you email them is have "Yolanda" send a message that's exactly the same every time and tells you to wait 20 days for delivery. Uhm... y'all just suck at this. I can't keep buying temporary permits from y'all I can't afford it. DO YOUR JOB!!! I've never had an issue deliverin ANYTHING TO MY ADDRESS AND IT HAS NEVER CHANGED FROM MY ID!!!! So I kindly would love someone to print me one on the spot, but I'll probably have to spend $60 for ANOTHER ONE EVEN THOUGH IT IS THEIR OWN FAULT!! My address is not fucking "underliverable" when USPS confirmed it was at my box with a PHOTO!!! So fuck y'all. read more

Just a note. If you need to renew a licence or identification card but plan on moving within two weeks be careful renewing. I went through the renewal process and after informing them about my move in two weeks was told that it would be okay and I needed to use my current address. The post office does not forward official mail. My new licence was sent back and shredded. When I called the DMV I was told that the person who helped me "should have told me to wait until I settled at my new address to renew." I was never informed of this fact and was told I would need to repeat the process and pay new fees. I clearly stated that I was moving and was worried I would not receive my licence before my mail was forwarded. I clearly stated that I would like my new address on the licence. I was reassured all would be well. Nope. All of this and over an hour wait time. I know it gets busy and the DMV can be rough but this was simply professional incompetence with no accountability. I was able to accomplish something at the Gladstone DMV today that wasn't possible in Lake Oswego or Sherwood. Have a simple question answered in a timely fashion. Since most of our registration is taken care of automatically through the DEQ process, I haven't needed to step inside the DMV for ages. But, I have a little problem. The info. on my driver's license label is fading into obscurity. I'm on the cusp of having my license rejected when presented. So, really all I need is a simple little label. How hard can this be? Unfortunately every DMV in the area I've visited has a 'take a number' system and no matter if I go first thing in the morning or mid-afternoon, the other DMVs are always busy. And waiting for an hour just isn't an option when you have a couple kids in tow. Much love to the Gladstone DMV for having a receptionist when you enter to help expedite customers and either answer their question or point them in the right direction. Turns out I didn't need to wait in line AT ALL. She just handed me a basic form which I filled out and returned to her, then off it goes to Salem. It was supposed to be fast! I finished my knowledge test in 10 minutes. I only wanted a driving license, not the new ID, so I had all my required documents. The lady who handled me proceeded to make a mistake on her screen ( put last name as first name, which changed my sex and name) then she asked for SS# and could not match my SS # because of course it was not me, I am lady and she had input a guy's name ( I have always been a lady btw) Equally hopeless man came to help her, assured me I did NOT have a SS # with my name ( Pls remember THEY had input my information wrong) and sent me home to get the SS card, probably thinking I did not have one. But I came back with it, they made me redo the line outside, then finally a smart kid got me and got to the bottom of the problem. I spent there almost 3 hours, including back and forth to my house to get the SS card they did not believe I had. I feel offended and discriminated against by lady who handled me and her helper, because I was born in a foreign country, although I had my American Passport and my Driving license from an other state to adequately prove my identity to obtain an OR Driving License, which is all I needed. At the end I got it, but it is so depressing whwn people hold positions which they cannot handle. Also, be prepared to wait for a very long time, even if no issues arise. I was scolded by lady outside for getting there too early ( 15 minutes!) and waited in line as requested, all the while listening to her saying that everyone who had an appointment was showing up so they were backed up !!!! Inside, however, things were moving very slow since not all employees were actually busy with customers, some just looked like they were hanging out in full view or in their offices. The only good thing about this DMV is that the place looked clean and hand sanitizers were provided everywhere. read more

Not having had stepped foot inside in ten years, the last time my decennial identification needed an updating (and a new photo, my has age come for me!) but also living in this new COVID world, I wasn't sure what to expect. Do you remember (or are you old enough to remember?) waiting at the DMV in the nineties with screaming children, arguing people, stressed out people, etc, while you waited half the afternoon to get your ticket number to show up on the little red, digital screen only so you HOPED you remember all the correct paperwork? For some of us now, if you have the forethought to schedule an appointment from the DMV website (be advised... they are booking six weeks in advance) your appointment time will be guaranteed. I literally got my new REAL ID in twelve minutes, including photo time, no kidding! They even email you a list of every document you need to bring- be prudent and always bring a couple more than you need. So that is the way to go if you can wait six weeks. If you can't? Well, prepare to take a number like the old days, and mind the screaming children and stressed out people. read more

Why are there no good DMVs in Oregon??? I do a lot of buying and selling of vehicles so I come here a lot and I've never been in and out in less than a hour. An hour and 45 mins there has been my max. Lots of times it's standing room only, line backed up to the door. Usually they only have 2-4 desks open out of 14 !!!!!!!! I had my license plates stolen on my car and I also needed to transfer a title over into my name. Came here as soon as they opened just because it's closest to me (and it's where I passed for my license.) there was a line waiting outside a few minutes before they opened and as soon as it hit 8:00AM they opened the doors. They were having network issues today but surprisingly everything went very quickly and smoothly. The man helping me was very kind and quick at what I needed to get done. Inching forward I finally make it inside where there is air conditioning. This isn't so bad, right? Well this small victory is short lived when the stench from the waiting masses reaches my nose. Seriously, weed out the Axed up teenagers eagerly waiting their turn to get behind the wheel for their driving tests and the rest of the assembled folks look like they should be waiting to donate plasma, or refill their methadone prescriptions. I guess these are the types of people who also don't have anything better to do than wait on a sunny Friday afternoon. We continue our slow move forward; I'm getting closer to my turn at the desk. I feel pity for the battered old man who shuffles in, with a scabbed and bloodied forehead and black eye as he saunters to the front of the line asking for an accident report. Accident eh? No shit. I'm hoping his driving days are done. I hoping that everyone involved was ok. I shift my weight from side to side, getting closer and closer to my turn at the desk. Thing stop moving as there now seems to be a hold up as the couple being helped can't seem to grasp the fees for their customized Crater Lake license plates. I begin to fantasize about stealing their application and changing the custom plate names from "SASSCEE" and "GR8HUBBY " to "BALLCKR" and "LUVBUSH". If only I was a computer hacker, I could get all up in their files. Now that would be fun. You know, being a hacker would be kind of cool. Especially in the late 80's when all you needed was a hot goth girlfriend, a cool alias like "Cypher Man" and access to the government's super computers. Or you could just be Matthew Broderick. He was able to change his attendance in Ferris B's days off with his computer and he almost started WW3 in War Games. Boy it's sure ahs been awhile since I watched FB's Day Off. I love that movie. A mad rush to get a number ensues. Luckily the magical number dispensing God is on the desk I am only a few feet away from. I am not ashamed to admit that a well-placed elbow to a soccer mom's boob and some mean mugging to the pimpled faced teens ensured I received my number first. There will be no line cutting today, my friends. I continued to wait in line, as did others, grasping on to my golden ticket, secretly wishing that Willy Wonka would magically appear and whisk me away to do some acid, eat candy and go for a boat ride. One can always hope. With her break behind her, the great and all powerful receptionist saunters back to her desk. And yes, it was a saunter. That I am sure of. Not a walk, not a mosey, not strut. She sauntered. So here it was. I was next. My moment had arrived. I'm ready for my close up Ms. Receptionist. I explained my reason for being here today, which was not because I'm a masochistic, and was ready to pay my fee, get my picture taken and get the hell out. She kindly informed that I qualified for the Express Line. I could get in line "over there". Line? Yes. Express? No. Lucky me. I got to wait some more. I had to renew my drivers license. We all have to do it. It's funny that in 2016 the DMV in Oregon only accepts cash or checks but no debit or credit card. So let me get this straight. You only accept cash or a potentially bad check - a bad check I could have fished out of my neighbors trash from six and half years ago from an account that was originally set up in Bulgaria in 1964 and closed in Uruguay in 1985 issued to the Czarina from Italy. Sounds good I have about 60 boxes of those checks and I'm gonna write one for the DMV. OR I could use my debit card that I use my driver's license as ID. Yeah. So I stand in that line to stand in this line to get into that line because that guy was on break before that lady was on break before this guy opened the next window for the line I wasn't standing in. Then they call your number and about 10 others and expect everyone to engage in a conversation so we can all alpha numeric ourselves into chronological order (which I thought that was the reason for the ticket machine). I guess not. So by the time you get to someone to help you and for whatever reason they are always in a shitty mood - they should try standing on OUR side of the line for once and see what it's like, they pull this kind of number on you. I have my birth certificate. I've had it since birth. And I've used it for my passport, my drivers licenses for three states and for the past 33 years. But suddenly it's not good any more. It's under question. I've got my passport - too expired. My phone bill - too ambiguous. My marriage license - too pretty. And a pint of urine mixed with my blood - too gross. AND I happen to have my driver's license THEY issued to me in 2007. Suddenly my ID isn't good enough and I stare at them shaking my head. Now THIS is the reason people go postal. How can such an antiquated system of nonsense that refuses to allow its customers to use a debit card systematically fail when you provide the SAME ID as you have for the past 33 years suddenly say, "I don't know if this birth certificate is legit." I'm thinking can I sue the DMV for stupidity. No. All I can do is give them a one-star review and laugh about it until I have to renew my license in 2023. Hopefully by then we'll be teleporting ourselves around town and the DMV will be nothing but ancient history. read more
