I was then given an appt to come back at 2:30pm the same day. I returned and again waited less than 10 minutes. Amazing!! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I was finished within 30 minutes. This worked great for me. If you get there too late in the afternoon as a walk in (2:30pm on the 2nd try for a different reason) there maybe a sign up reading They are no longer accepting walk-ins. 3rd visit I was there by 11:30am, no line, my questions were answered. Went in to renew licenses but no walk-in is available. Instead the made appointments for us on the same day. We went back later and the process is efficient. Checked in on a kiosk and waited in the first waiting area for our numbers to be called. The staff that helped us was extremely friendly, spoke two languages. Didn't take too long since we had all documents needed. Afterwards, we moved to the second waiting area to get our photos taken. I called asking if they can specifically do a salvage title transfer while still getting a salvage title just switching to my name. they say yes it can be done. i double check they understand what I am saying and they yes over and over again to just make an appointment. I leave work early and then tell me they can't. Staff is not knowledgeable in their work and waste my time. Staff need better training and customer service. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. We have had to visit this location during the pandemic as DMV appointments are hard to come by. We've got our Real ID here and did a driver's test (behind the wheel and knowledge). Both experiences weren't bad all things considered. There is one woman that is really on top of things. Very friendly and efficient. I would say as far as DMV visits go, the reservation system is kind of nice. It's just GETTING the reservation online that's difficult. They literally don't care how long you have to wait. I have an 11:30 "appointment", arrived on time. Was assigned #123, they were on #95 at that time. 4 people are working the windows, one person on intake. A woman just came in, 12:10, and was assigned a # in the 140s. She asked how long it would realistically take and the intake guy said, "I don't know, if you have to leave please use that door." Then he laughed and said, "DMV blues!" Hahaha what a fun guy. Its 12:15 now and they are on #107. I have another appt somewhere else at 2:00. I'm legit concerned that 1 hour and 45 minutes won't be enough time for me to get this done. Let me say that again. It sure seemed like I could make an 11:30 appt and reasonably expect to he able to do other business at 2pm. But maybe not. And they don't care. Not a bit. They joke about it. I've frequented this location 4+ times at this point and the timeline for service is atrocious. Even if you get here when doors open the wait extends to 45 minutes plus. The service desk attendants do the bare minimum to assist people and they hold all forms (besides DL) behind the counter so you walk in, get a number to wait 45 minutes for a form, and then have to wait another hour to be helped by an actual clerk who processes information. On Friday, I got here at doors open and waited 4 hours to be helped with a title transfer and new plates. I'm back on Tuesday at doors open and have been sitting for an hour just to retake my knowledge test even though I was told I'd have no wait and be put right through. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this system is so archaic. Forms should be all online or out for folks to reduce wait time. This place is soul crushing and inconvenient by design. If you live in Portland, skip getting a car and take the bus. Coming here makes me wish I never drove. read more

They NEVER answer the phone! I mailed in two different envelopes of forms and checks - one to get the title for my truck, which I paid off, and the other to register a new trailer. After a six week wait, the Oregon DMV sends me a new registration for my truck and no title (I did not need a new registration) and a license plate for my trailer, but no registration! So, I've attempted and attempted to call the DMV to talk to a live person to say "what the hell?!", but they won't even let you stay on hold and wait. They just hang up on you. Today when I called, the automated message said the whole state's call center was closed due to poot air quality....meanwhile, I work for the government and it's business as usual for us. Any excuse to get out of work I guess. The worst part about this lack of service is that our tax dollars go to support this "service". If they can't produce the service they are hired to do, then reduce my state taxes. read more

They will handle one person and then leave their desk to go ... who knows where for over a half hour. 3. There is no structure to or formation to this facility. Don't take your driver test here unless you want to be yelled at during your whole test. Took a friend here for their driver test and they were nervous like anyone who takes their test for the first time. After the test I could tell something was wrong because she wanted to literally cry and she explained to me that not even 5 minutes into the test the instructor had yelled at her and continued to throughout the test. The DMV is always underfunded so they can't staff well but I found them to be courteous and knowledgeable for the most part. There are still folks who, when faced with an uncommon situation, will tell you to get on the phone with home office and handle it yourself. That's the only mark I have against them. If you like to be spoken to in an extremely rude fashion, come here! Every attendant speaks to customers in a very condescending manner. Not from the US? Expect to be treated like garbage and be given very little guidance during whichever process the ridiculous OR state laws require for your task. The employees here each give different instructions, then speak to you like you're a child when you follow the previous instructions that were given by a different employee. Why can't they all be on the same page? I actually heard an attendant tell a customer who filled out paperwork inaccurately (English was not their first language), "it's YOUR time. All about how you wanna spend YOUR day." Why, why, WHY is this process so incredibly cumbersome and costly?! Seriously. I thought Washington DMV was a nightmare. Was skeptical I arrived around lunch. Lines, people, not chaotic, but looked bleak. I walked in, pulled number 267, they were at 166! Yikes. Keep in mind, they do have a system and you have to get into two lines. One first, One to actually talk to teller. Trust the system. So, I couldn't wait for 267. I was there shy of an hour, but I just couldn't wait longer on a work lunch break. The initial line to talk to the information desk is worth it, they will direct you, make sure you are fully prepared to actually conduct the transaction. Atmosphere. Wide, Huge, mall like lighting, nice clean bathrooms, plenty seats to do paperwork/wait. It sucks waiting, but the staff are legit. They are doing their best directing folks. I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes. The person at the front desk was really polite and sweet. She made sure I had all my paperwork and answered all my questions. The lady at the counter that helped me stayed through lunch break helping people in line. She had to be hungry but she stayed calm and collective. When I was finally up to be helped I didn't have everything I needed and the lady helping me talked me through everything and I found out I did in fact had everything I needed I just didn't know where to look. This place is an utter disgrace. By far the worst processing of any state I have lived in. Including Vermont, Connecticut, New York(!), New Jersey, Arizona. Clearly the result of a hopelessly twisted bureaucratic rules drafted by lawyers, whose registration is handled by their limousine drivers. Executed by an undermanned staff, half of whom seem to be on break at any time. The wait time is always pretty terrible. 3 hours seems to be the quickest I have ever been in and out of here. It's pretty clear that this is an underfunded undersupported, system. There is never (ever) enough staff online to help customers and everyone behind a desk is responsbile for a thousand and one types of services. I don't know why I feel compelled to leave a review for the DMV but since we are in a pandemic I think it's important for others to know what to expect. The staff at this office are extremely courteous and knowledgeable; I would rate them 5 stars if I could. I saw an employee being harassed by an angry patron today and she handled it better than I ever could. The lady who helped me with my visit was extremely helpful and fast. However, the reason I'm rating this 3 stars is because the appointment system and wait times are ridiculous. I made an appointment months in advance, showed up an hour early, and still somehow managed to not actually get help from a DMV employee until 1.5 hours after my appointment was scheduled. In other words, I was at the office for more than 3 hours despite having an appointment. The actual appointment took less than TEN minutes; the rest of the time was spent waiting in various lines. First you queue up outside, then eventually some people are let inside and put into another queue. That queue sits down, then you get called into one or two more queues until you're actually at a desk getting your business done. The employees are definitely doing the best they can, but management and administration need to step in and figure out how to manage this operation better. There's definitely an easier way to do this than how they're doing it now. read more
