I cried I was so upset, and I decided to stick to weaves. Fast forward a year and I couldn't stand my hair and didn't want another weave, so I looked for a braid shop once again.... After striking out and a practical repeat of bad luck that I had before, i.e., people not at the shop or not answering the phone or having horrible reviews or being stupidly overpriced, etc., I came upon Superstar Hair Braiders. I called and no one answered BUT they called me back! Whoah, that's new! I like it. Next day at noon, I showed up for Senegalese twists with a one sided French braid sweep. 10min after I arrived I was in a chair being worked on. They answered all the questions I had, helped me with hair color and style preferences. I had wanted burgundy but they didn't have enough of the color to do my head. I was disappointed as I had asked for that color when I made the appointment so I'd suggest if you want a more unique unnatural color to make sure they'll have it in stock or just bring your own. I was also told $160 on the phone but then $180 when I arrived. I didn't dispute it because I just didn't want to get into it but I should have mentioned it. I'm non-confrontational in a bad way. Ugh. Anyway... My hair came out awesome!!!! I've never been to a shop that had so many different hair styles for braids. All the ladies are helpful, wear cute pink aprons with Superstar Hair Braider on it, and omg are they FAST. I was done in 4hrs, not 4 and a half, FOUR. The biggest capper, as if it could get any better, they take credit cards!!!! I'll totally be using these guys again no doubt. It's in a basement of a house which was totally fine with me. I get there on time and the owners daughter who's really sweet set me and began separating the hair. She confirmed what I was getting and the price I was quoted. She did one braid. I told her it was short. She asked me if I wanted the hair braided to my waist or if I wanted it to hang to my waist. I said, braid it to my waist she began braiding more. I had to get up to check on my son I looked in the mirror and told her these braids are too short. She agreed they were too short and she kept braiding. I assume she was braiding longer in the back half and she would come back and fix the ones that were too short, but that did not happen. Her mom the owner came down because another client came. She finished her and she assisted with me. I turned around and asked the owner are these waist length because they're pretty short. she got upset and say yes these are waist length why? I said because they're not waist length they're actually only braided to my bra strap and the rest is hanging. I would never want that much synthetic hair hanging. She said oh well that's what we do here and when you say waste length it's the hair that's hanging to your waist, not braided to your waist. I said that's not standard because everywhere else waist length is braided to the waist, which is why it cost more not because there's hair hanging that would hang anyway. she said I don't know where you went but here that's not how we do it. She also stated at how she's been in business for 20 years and how you just can't please everyone. All while yelling. I didn't match her tone or her raised voice because my minor son was there and so was her daughter, but I did let her know that when I called and got a quote I asked for waist length. I let her daughter know twice that the braids was too short she said, yeah I know that she let me know. I said well if she let you know, why didn't you come down here and address it. She said I'm addressing it now. I can either cut the braids out and you can go or for 50 more dollars we can braid to your waist. I said I have already been here for 4 1/2 hours. I have to go to physical therapy in 40 minutes. I can't do that. She continue to get upset and yell about how long she's been in business how she knows what she's doing and not to compare her to other places. I didn't even go back-and-forth with her because once again I wouldn't do that in front of minors. I cannot drive due to my recent surgery, so I'm on someone else's time so that's the reason I did not have her take the braids down or go someplace else because I've wasted a half a day there. I would have to go and shampoo my hair to find another shop to go to. I cannot drive so I'm on someone else's time and I had a funeral to attend in the morning. My take away from this entire experience was very unpleasant as I've been to her before although it was years ago I've worn Braids all year. although over time I've been to different shops standard in this industry for waist length is braided to the waist or at least close to it not the middle of the back and it's hanging to your waist. It's synthetic hair. You should be given the option or if you want several inches of hair hanging there was no reason for her to raise her voice as I did not raise mine nor did I ever get disrespectful. My parts are not the same size. My parts are not the same shape. I do not have a center part. If I wanted to wear my hair in two ponytails, it would be a zigzag part. I have approximately five braids that come past my butt. Approximately six braids that hangs to my waist and the rest stop in the middle of my back. I did not realize this until I got home and looked in the mirror, but she knew this while she was raising her voice yelling at me I would never recommend anyone going here. I would tell you to go someplace else where you get what you were expect and your money's worth. If this was not paid in cash, I absolutely would dispute this charge because I did not get what I paid for and I am very disappointed.

When I arrived I checked in with the receptionist and told her who I was there to see. I was immediately seated, the stylist introduced herself immediately. I felt very comfortable, she washed my hair, even though I told her I had just washed, but I think washing is part of the policy. Afterwards, she gave a good blow dry, pressed me out and curled my hair. Overall , the experience was relaxing and comfortable. There were no ghetto people or crying children running around. It was a very professional experience. The one negative, I didn't really care for how my hair was styled, but maybe I didn't really explain clearly what I wanted. However, I loved the experience and would definitely go back.

I would do my wash and go's and just feel like a wet mop. I came in and asked for shape and a short bang. The bang was really the only direction I gave her since I knew I wanted some better framing around my face and to change up my look within my comfort zone. Honestly, I would have been really annoyed if I were her about how vague my instructions were (lol). However, Joy wasn't annoyed all. She gave me suggestions and Ideas of how it could look and then went to work. The end result has made me so happy. This is the happiest I've been about my hair in a while. And I've been able to keep up the style for ~week without a wash/completely wetting my hair -- even doing hot Pilates and sweating every day. I think the haircut has a lot to do with that.
