Last week, I was lucky enough to be pummeled by rain and wind while zip lining in the jungle...spend days snorkeling amid fish and coral, get covered in sand watching baby turtles emerge from their nests and spend some mornings challenging salty ocean waves. Now that is a cool vacation. :) RE: OILS: Whole foods sells a small container of jojoba oil. It was cheap, I picked it up. I rub it on lashes for maintenance. The advantage also being that it doubles as eye moisturizer as well. (Serious advantage in that even given the fact I should have some sort of beauty routine I still use soap and water on my face. But I digress...) Re: NATURAL BLONDES: Mary ALSO is the the ONLY person I know who can match eyebrows to my naturally light blond hair. Yo! Only eyelash studio around the Pflugerville area. Which is north, north Austin. Anyway, love, love, Love my eyelashes that I received from Kristen. She is gentle, sweet,accommodating and informative. She didn't even care if I fell asleep. Put on any kind of music you want, girl..it's not me that needs to groove while doing something as tedious as placing one eyelash extension at a time on somebody. Hopefully my head didn't bobble too much I can tell with my eyes closed that she has great attention to detail, listens and appreciates her work! Cause it most definitely shows! The place I usually go to had no availability for two months out, so I made an appointment with Glamour Eyes Studio, because it had so many 5-star reviews on Yelp. I booked online, which was a bit confusing, because the options under Book Online do not show the full menu of options. You have to click on the Services tab. I ended up choosing the Ellipse Sugar Mascra Full Set. I had to hold my breath a lot throughout the appointment, because all I could smell was the cigarette smoke mixed with hand sanitizer on her hands. The appointment was for 2 hours. She was probably done in about one. The lashes felt super plastic-y, which may have been because of the type of lash I chose, but they were stiff and felt like they were weighing my lashes down. She told me that I had small lashes so I should choose a different type next time so they look fuller. I wish that she had told me that before finishing. The only care tip she gave me was about how to brush them. They got twisted together easily, and when I brushed them my eyelids hurt. Lashes started to fall out that evening. My eyes itched all weekend and were super watery. Sunday I was ready to claw my eyes out! They kept getting so watery, that it made the lashes twist upside down and poke me in the eye. Four days later, I have itched and rubbed the lashes off, because they bothered my eyes so much. I wear goggles in the shower and carry clean mascara wands with me everywhere. They normally last at least 2-3 weeks. I've had lashes for six months prior to this, and I have never had this issue. Not even when wearing strips for a day. I'm going to take some time to let my natural lashes regrow before I go someplace else to have them redone. read more

Rema is the best! She puts more lashes on in less time than anyone else that I have ever went to and believe me, I have went to quite a few different places. I used to go to Lashes De Bella down in Austin (also awesome), before I had kids. Once I had my daughter, I quit working to stay home with her and didn't get my lashes done for a while. When I decided to get them done again, I didn't want to drive all the way down to Austin to have them done (I used to be down there for work, so it had been convenient). I looked for something closer to home. I literally tried out about 10 places through groupon before finding Rema and they all either did sparse lashes/not enough lash extensions, glued more than one of my lashes to many of the individual extensions (which is the wrong way to do it and causes you to lose your natural lashes), used crappy glue/ the extensions sperated from my lashes/fell out quickly or they had crazy normal/non groupon prices. They were all okay to good, but not awesome. Rema is awesome! I have incredibly sparse natural lashes and Rema really makes my lashes look beautiful. My lashes are so thin that they can't handle super thick extensions, so it takes more of the thinner extensions to achieve the same visual result that other people with extensions can get with less lashes. She's fun to talk to and the time flies by quickly. She really gets a lot of lashes on quickly (you will be pleasantly surprised at how many lashes you get: much more than other places) & her work is very neat & clean. I never thought that I would find someone as good as my old place (LDB) and I figured maybe I would have to drive 30 minutes away or resign myself to lower lash standards (lol). I've been to at least a handful of lash extension places and I can say that Mary is the best for so many reasons. I've been coming to Mary for the past 4 months and have not been swayed by discount Groupons to try anyone new. The prices are very reasonable and appointments are easy to schedule. I've scheduled online, via text and in person. There is a 5% discount if you schedule your next appointment when you visit. The studio is not glamorous, it's is just a room inside a strip mall hair salon, but Mary makes it very comfortable. She is sweet, easy to talk to, does great work, and is very accommodating. I also love the fact that she doesn't try to up sell services or products. I know what I'm paying for without feeling like I have to buy extra "products" to maintain my lashes. I love my new found long lashes and maintenance is easy. read more

You'd think people wouldn't really notice something as small as eyelashes, but it makes a surprising difference on my face. Which is why I've been going to see Mary forever. My lashes are a 10 (you'll have to ask Mary what that means), but it looks naturally full and not like I'm trying to change wind patterns with my face. Depending on how good I am at taking care of them, they typically last 3-4 weeks. One time I was being brutal to them, but Mary fit me in for a quick fill and it was all good. It could be awkward laying on a table for an hour with your eyes closed, but Mary truly has a customer-focused approach. One time I didn't feel like listening to the typical spa whale humping music, so she kicked up a jam and we talked and laughed the entire time. Once I was in a shitty mood and she let me lay there and sleep. Mary is super-chill but always completely professional. It shocks me that she's shocked when I leave a gratuity. Her online reservation system makes it easy to book and the reminder emails are great. But she is POPULAR so book in advance. I cheated on her once because I needed a last-minute fill before long trip so I went to that OTHER place, that charged twice as much and didn't last nearly as long. Plus, I felt like I was in an eyelash mill and they put a standard set on vs. talking with Mary about what options are the best for my face. All I want to say is that Kristin SAVED my eye lashes!!!!!!!!!!! First off, I had an extremely horrible and painful experience at a previous salon! When they were applying my extensions they held my eyes open, and just dabbed on the lashes!! Horrible right? It was an awful experience, and I knew I wanted those extensions off immediately! Mary is AMAZING! I had the fabulash full set put on and she is so good she got them done in a little less than an hour and a half. She's so sweet and personable, very thorough, and knows how to make your eyes pop. I visited their newest location in Austin. It's in a great location off of 2222. I'll definitely be going back to Mary for my fills. Also, incase you're a beginner and aren't sure what you want the fabulashes are the way to go! The can get wet right after, you can use oil based products (such as face wash) on your face/eyes, and they stay on longer than basic lash extensions. I got eyelash extensions for the first time and wasn't completely pleased. I showed Kristen pictures of how I wanted my eyelashes to look but I think she completely disregarded them. I wanted wispy, long, cat-eye eyelashes and they turned out to be just straight and one length. They started itching really bad a few days later and falling out. I had an amazing first visit with Holly. She did such a good job on my lashes, I got so many compliments. I went back less than 2 weeks later to get a fill bc I was going out of town (they were still good but I was going to Vegas and wanted to make sure they were extra full). I unfortunately had a different lady who was very gentle and looked good after, however, they started falling out not even 2 full days after!! They don't even look like I got them filled at all! They seriously have LESS than when I went in. Plus they are uneven! One eye definitely has more than the other! I have not showered and slept on my back both nights and have been SO careful with them. There is no way they should be falling out. I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews but I'm just irritated I drove 30 minutes and paid 70$ for basically nothing. But I really do recommend Holly!!! 5 stars for her. read more

Don't walk, but run to see Holly for your lash extensions. I recently moved here from LA and had to leave my beloved and trusted lash lady of three years. My biggest fear of moving was that I wasn't going to be able to find anyone comparable. I tried one shop that stated they were the best and had amazing reviews, but not even a week of having lashes from them at least 25% had fallen out!! We don't even want to get into what they looked like the second week :( So I almost admitted defeat, and at least I'd get to enjoy being able to rub my eyes without extensions, right? But I figured I'd give one more place a shot, and I couldn't be more happy that I did! Even though I had a request that pretty much made zero sense the way I described it, Holly still made it work. Absolute BEST eyelash extensions! I have been going to Mary for a couple years now and can tell you that I would not dare let anyone else do my lashes. Being completely honest though, prior to Mary I had a lash girl that I loved. It was only when that girl went on vacation and I was in desperate need of a fill that I decided to go out on a limb and try Mary. Going into it, I expected it to be a one-time thing and to come out of it being a little unsatisfied just because I was so accustomed to the great job I felt my original lash girl always did. But boy was I wrong...after my lash fill with Mary, I never went back to my original lash girl. Bar none, Mary's lashes are the most natural and glamourous you will find (and I feel 100% confident is saying she is the best because I have tried countless places & girls over the years). I can't tell you how many times random people stop me and compliment my eyes, stating how gorgeous my lashes are...many of whom don't even realize they are fake. And for those that do ask me if they are real, they immediately then ask for Mary's number.
