I was only looking for some hair supplies and she directed me to the correct aisle. As we got talking, she knew her products very well, showed me different ones and was very patient with my questions.She wasn't rushing me or made me feel like I had to purchase anything. But from the start I told the stylist I wanted bigger ring curls throughout with the back flaring out(I have a mullet). When he started using the pink rods, I told him I thought those would be too small and that every other perm i got used orange, but he insisted that the orange was not the right size. So i decided to trust him(THE OWNER) since he had 30 years experience. After that he started rolling the sides downwards instead of towards the back, so I asked him again and he reassured me that rolling them down wouldn't effect the way they lay. So again I trusted him. Then when he finished rolling I noticed he rolled the backside down instead of up so that it would flare out, so I stopped him and asked if he could change it and he reassured me once again that he has never rolled up and that with my length, it wouldn't matter in the end. After that he came back with a form I had to sign saying that it's not the salons fault for undesired results that i had to sign. Once we washed everything out he could tell I was clearing unhappy with the results, so his way of fixing it was combing through my hair to try make the back flare out and brushing the top to make the sides lay back instead of fall to the side. I'm not perm expert but I've always been told never to comb or brush you hair after a perm or the curls won't set. Now I'm left with small twist curls that aren't rings on the top, with sides that pop outwards and small curls in the back with no flare. I look like I have permanently bed head. He wants me to go back in a couple days to reperm it for free but I'd honestly rather pay someone else to fix this disaster.

I'm super vain about my hair, so getting it cut is a big deal for me. I was super pleased with Stacey, my stylist, and with the whole salon. First of all, I came in early and they were super polite and talked about getting me in ASAP. I got hooked up with some delicious tea in the small waiting area, enjoying the atmosphere. It was very open concept, chic and open, and it didn't feel crowded at all. Love, love loved how gorgeous the interior was, which is exactly what I want in a salon. Loved getting my hair washed, although I was a little disappointed with the lack of scalp massage :( Stacey asked what I wanted, and totally consulted with me the whole time. She also listened to me chatter along the whole time. I love my one-inch shorter hair (I also like it when people listen to me when I explain that I'm growing my hair out). A…read moregirlfriend and I were headed to Calgary to celebrate my birthday weekend and during our drive we decided we wanted blowouts in order to look our most spectacular for our night on the town. The Ginger Group was the first salon to pop up on Google and the receptionist was happy to get us in that afternoon (which came to a surprise quite frankly, because it was a Saturday, after all). Once we arrived we were kindly greeted and met by our stylists right away. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the gentleman who tended to my messy locks... but he did have a station right next to another gentleman who, to our excitement, frequently had his bow-tie-wearing weiner dog roam the salon. That was a cute touch. The space itself, was perfect also, with its lofty vibe and industrialized pieces. I, personally love a laid-back environment without the snobbery that comes with certain uptight salons. My girlfriend showed up with her hair drenched in coconut oil from the night before, and was extremely worried about being judged by her stylist due to the fact she too, had worked in a salon with women who were umempathetic toward clients behind their backs. Our stylists were phenomenal. The female who worked on my friend was super understanding about the oil and casually chatted her up about our plans for the evening. As did my stylist. They were both kind, informative, and talented professionals. Our hair looked fabulous the entire night and carried all the way into the following day. They always seem to be busy when I am passing by but they were able to fit me in for a quick touch-up-trim. The gal who cut my hair was very sweet and loved to chat, asked a lot of questions and loved her job, obviously. She was young - all the gals seemed to be young behind the desk and in the salon area itself. The place had a 'hip' feel to it and the music was good and not too loud. All the ladies looked very nice and it gives confidence to a new customer that they are bound to get a good haircut, that the ladies know what they are doing. The salon was clean also. My hair stylist was very gentle, I never felt rushed and she did a good job. No hair tugging or pulling or jabbing me in the eye with the comb. Nor was she tasked with running to answer the phone while I was being 'serviced'. I had her full attention. I give 4 stars as the place is quite pricey. My trim that was on dry hair (no wash) that took 10 min cost $21 plus 18% tip. Plus I gave her a little gift from my biz. I will return!

It was obvious that she was a student still learning how to cut hair. You could tell she did not want to do it and was rude and very unprofessional. When she asked me what I wanted I told her that I usually go for a number 2 for the sides and a 5-6 for the top length. She started looking for her supplies in her drawer and couldn't even find her comb and then she said that she only had a number 4 for the top and that's all she was going to be able to do. She did not have the proper supplies!! I said to use her own discretion thinking she was a professional but I promptly realized she didn't even know how to properly hold the sheers to cut the sides or even the trimmer, which I thought would not be difficult to manage. She used the number 4 and it was way too short and since she was holding it wrong (I could feel something weird happening on my hair but could not see it) she made me bold and completely ruined my hair. The sides are uneven, the top is completely bold, the front is too short and I honestly look like someone shaved my head but used different numbers for each side. I did not get her name but she was young, in her twenties, long brown curly hair, glasses and she said she was half Jamaican, half French, which she mentioned because she asked me if I was from Calgary and told her I was but that my parents were from Colombia. I usually don't write reviews like these but I was so horrified that I had to say something. I just cannot believe that they would charge me 37 dollars plus tip for completely ruining my hair prior to an important Christmas event I'm supposed to attend in a few days. The haircut is so bad that I'm actually thinking about not attending this event because I would have to wear a hat. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to this Chatters, the quality is absolutely terrible, the people that run it are unprofessional, not knowledgable at all, they were supposed to have 25% off but was still charged full price. There was no compassion or willingness to fix the issue and compensate me in one way or another, I just paid and left. I just wanted to get out of there and run as fast as I could! I'm going to let the photos I took speak for themselves. And I will most definitely be taking this along with my evidence to the Better Business Bureau to place a formal compliant against this business so they can issue a fine. This is the most amazing hairstylist in the city and especially if you have Asian hair. I feel like I am with a New York stylist.. In general Calgary is lack of good Asian hair stylists compare to Vancouver, so I was happy that Raymond handled my hair fairly well. However, I started to get fed up with this place because even if you made an appointment, you still have to wait at least half hour for the hair stylist to come to you, then half way, he will be going to another person, and then you have to wait for him to come back to finish the job. In average, it takes me 2 hours to complete a simple hair cut from the time I walked in on time for my appointment. This has never happened in any other places I've been to. Also, although Raymond is a good hairstylist, when it's really busy, he got distracted, stressed and so he didn't do as a good job as he could. My last hair cut was horrible, I spent 2 and half hours there just got a few hair trimmed. I could have done that myself at home! Anyways, I am going to try some other places. It's just not worth the wait unless you really have tons of time.
