My friend and I were recommended this salon by a friend and booked an appointment two months ago. We were greeted with friendly customer service upon revealing it was our first time. They were eager to do designs and were very attentive to the detail and quality of our nails. We had a wonderful experience with nails that lasted over a month. HOWEVER, the same friend and I had an appointment Friday afternoon (Oct. 20th) for a fresh set of nails, to my excitement I had the same technician as my previous appointment. Upon arrival I was told there would be no time for designs although another technician offered my friend the option of designs, when she declined they didn't consider offering me the option instead. Usually when nail appointments run longer it's because of the technicians attention to detail and cautious behaviour, so the extra time is no issue. That was not the case when our appointment ran long though. We had to point out multiple mistakes made; smudged paint, bubbles, crooked nails, uneven shapes and more. No cuticle oil or hand massage this time and nails not worthy of compliments. I had nail polish peeling off and the gel chipping the next day even though I've been housebound studying. Usually a set can withstand much rougher treatment than everyday life while still looking fantastic, I'm scared to see how this set will look if this is the case after 3 days of barely lifting a finger. I've gotten cheaper sets of nails before and understand you get what you pay for, but for $85 I was expecting a higher quality than this. read more

Helen Dao is truly a makeup ARTIST. I was lucky enough to have her do my makeup for my sister's wedding and, let me tell you, that girl performs miracles with her itty bitty brushes and magic pots of pigment! In about an hour she managed to erase my massive dark & puffy under-eye circles, double the size of my peepers, lift my cheekbones by about an inch, and give me the most flawless perfect complexion that I thought was only achievable via Photoshop and some good filters. But most importantly, after all that I still looked like me...just a MUCH better version of me. If you're at all in doubt, just flip through her online portfolio - pictures don't lie. I loved this place so much! I did a bunch of research as I was in town for a quick work trip and needed to get my nails done for burning man. Julia helped me and she was fabulous! I got tips and a new nail shape that I've never tried and she was so wonderful about taking the time to really explain everything. She was super sweet and funny and made the whole experience lovely. End result, IM IN LOVE! Like obsessed hahahha! I got them done because I am getting married at the burn so wanted something special. I got exactly what I wanted! Easily the best pedicure that I've had in my entire life. I didn't have an appointment, so I had to wait for a bit. However, the individualized treatment I got once I was there was amazing. The technician worked on my feet for an hour, until she my feet were unrecognizable. (It had been a while since my last pedicure.) I've never had feet so beautiful. I'll never go back to this place. It's crowded, and the techs aren't properly trained, and don't do a good job. The young man doing my hands cut my cuticles and drew blood twice--this is very dangerous; I'll be fortunate not to get an infection. I had to tell him and the woman doing my feet to please be gentle numerous times. They basically just yanked my cuticles off with the nippers, and weren't careful to not to buff the skin around my nails rather than just my nails. I've rarely experienced such carelessness before. They use coconut oil for moisture instead of lotion, which left me greasy because they don't wash it off properly. They also charge luxury prices for very, very basic services. Stay away. read more

Cute place, friendly girls. Very difficult to get in as they aren't open on Sunday. They don't really return calls, either, but I was told that was because not every girl knew how to check the messages? A bonus is that everyone speaks English (not that it really matters, but it helps). Received a great shellac manicure for around 40 something with tip. I've only been there once, but so far I like it as much as Sparkle, but not quite as good as Diamante in WR. My recommendation is that they give a longer, better massage and I did not have the same girl throughout the process. This might have been part of the reason for the lack of follow through. Also, my nail chipped the next day which had never happened to me with shellac. Usually, my nails last almost two weeks no matter what. Then again, I don't usually get colour, either. My natural nails began to show within two days, and I think that was due in part to the fact that she did not brush the nail as close to the cuticle as she could have done. But again, it's hard to tell when getting brighter polish than usual. I can't really go above a three for that reason, however. Also, my nails are the weakest they've ever been, and I was told it was b/c they removed my prior gel app. in the wrong manner (with the machine). But who really knows? I had to get it removed within 10 days--much shorter than usual, and I've now reverted back to boring, cream-coloured, regular polish for a time. I generally see Amy and Julia. I've never left unhappy. I'm also a new mom and the place is baby friendly. There's always someone wanting to hold baby for me which as a mom I'm really grateful for. The girls are great. The place is clean. There's other services like lashes and waxing available too. Huge fan of this place. No matter where I've moved I commute to get here. read more

Oh my god, I am so lucky - I chose this place entirely based on location, I was working on Granville Island and needed somewhere I could get to on a break. But oh.my.god. Amy did SUCH an amazing job, they're Exactly how I wanted and I had Such a lovely time - and she was so quick (while still doing a flawless job) that I still had time on my break to grab a bite, it was fantastic. It took me a few visits to warm up to the place, but I quickly discovered that if I'm clear about what I want, I always get good results! I went to GlamStar during the Canucks' run for the Cup and LOVED the Canucks nails!! I was so impressed, because it was all done free-hand without stencils. I don't usually do nail art (I think it can sometimes look tacky), but I can see myself going back when I want to "glam it up" for a night. read more

Popped in for a mani/pedi and it was just okay for quality. The girl that did my pedicure cut my big toe and it bled quite a bit, and stung for most of the time there, so the end result was a scabby crevice of dark dried blood. I asked for a discount for this mistake and they offered 10% off and were very apologetic. read more

I heard that Amy was great, so I scheduled a pedicure with her. To start, I waited 15 minutes before she was available to see me. If I was going to be late, I would call ... couldn't she do the same? Not a huge deal, but it was my first impression. Then, she barely focused on me! For most of the pedicure, Amy was busy talking to her co-workers in Vietnamese and she barely even look at my toenails while she was filing them and cutting them. Ugh. Then, in the middle of scrubbing my feet, she asked if she could call her husband. What? She called him twice! Then when she returned and started scrubbing my feet again, I ask her not to scrub certain areas because I was ticklish but she did it anyway. Again, I told her not to scrub me in those places, but she kept doing it. Oh my god. When she finally focused on my pedicure, she didn't ask what shape toenail I wanted, and she didn't ask how short I want my toenails. Amy did her own version of what I wanted for $42. I have been getting my nails done here since the end of 2011. I found Amy through a friend. Amy is truly a talent, I have tried many nail places and this one is the best. There's only one other that compares in quality its downtown and just as popular. For me a great nail place is not only about the talent and cleanliness but also friendliness. Everyone at this place is really nice to everyone not just their clients, people that walk by and ask for directions, or ask for a matches they always try to help. I specifically see Amy for gel nails, art work and pedis. Cleanliness is super important and has been consistent here. When Amy was on mat leave I had Julia do my gel nails and she did a great job! Been seeing Amy for years - she always does a fantastic job, she is precise and is open to listening to exactly what I want and is concerned that I am happy with every service. Plus she is super quick (45-1 hour max) - have gone to other places in the past that takes them twice the amount of time to do a gel fill. And no one in the city does the gel French like she does - which in my opinion she does the best! I don't go anywhere else for a reason and I am not an easy customer to please. read more

Really happy with my experience here. I was used to going to the closest place to my home but I'm happy I read a few reviews and ventured out to this gem. Not only do they have a TON of colours to choose from (I opted for Shellac and was used to just a few of the classic red and pinks) but they were incredible efficient with their time and my nails never looked better.
