I'm not one to leave reviews...and I'm sorry to. But I hope my review will at least be constructive. I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and egg and salsa on the side. They give this to you in a raw tortilla (it said it was grilled on their online menu), and the "bacon" is actually just prepackaged pepperoni??? The salsa was put into the burrito so by the time I got home it was too soggy to eat. I had to throw it away. Then we ordered the grilled cheese and added egg to it. I opened the sandwich up and it had huge chunks of raw avocado (was thinking it'd be like a nice mash with seasoning in it). No seasonings, not even salt, on this sandwich. The egg was virtually non existent it was so small. I had to whip up additional eggs, Avo, and toppings to salvage this sandwich which I should've just thrown away. Again, I don't mean to sound harsh. But when this was my most expensive meal in this little town, I thought I'd be getting something at least edible in nature. Girls were nice and the inside was spacious and clean. If I didn't order the food, I would've been none the wiser. I feel the need to leave a review. I'd like to preface it by saying that Glas has been my go to coffee place for years. Recently they changed their computer system. Apparently the dollars I had on my reloadable card (about$50) didn't transfer. I made several attempts to see if they could right the situation. Their response was, oh it says there's a zero balance. Maybe it didn't transfer to the new system. Because of their indifference and unwillingness to make this situation right, they've lost a longtime and until now, loyal customer! read more

I like Glas. I'm a little surprised that it has so few reviews and that it is listed only under coffee houses. I have often eaten there and have found the soups and sandwiches pretty good. I purposely get the chocolate frosted doughnuts when they are not sold out. For me they are worth the trip. Ambiance: I'd say it is the brightest, airiest place in town with windows on three sides and a great view overlooking the channel and the Historic Park. There is seating on two levels and outdoor seating when the weather permits, although mornings and afternoons would be more tolerable when the sun doesn't scorch you. There's a meeting room that is fully equipped to use projectors, etc. On Tuesday mornings a computer help group sponsored by the Office on Aging sets up shop there, so you can grab a cuppa and get some help on your laptop, etc. I've been to music events at Glas, but it's not well accommodated for that type of event. There is also one of those Little Libraries where you can swap books -take one-leave one. Coffee: As I am primarily a straight-up Dark Roast guy, I'm always happy. No opinion on lattes and the other concoctions people order. I don't see people spitting them out, so they must be OK. Service: I see that some reviewers are not thrilled about the service. I think it may get a little sluggish at lunch time, but I think it is about average for Shawano. I've always found the staff cheerful, friendly and attentive. And, as far as I know, nobody's been cuffed for asking to use the restrooms. read more

I've been here multiple times and every time is wonderful! The staff are always friendly. The lay out is the perfect place for a casual coffee date, study session, or just a relaxing break. It is always clean inside and it's cool that it's eco friendly. The meals and coffee are always made perfectly. The only down side is that the coffee can be a little expensive but if you walk or ride a bike you can get 10% off and they have a rewards card (buy so many coffees get one free type of deal). read more

The room and use of space is well planned (I came by to get some work done and was very happy). Two story open concept with nice views of the lake and adjoining channel. The owner is trying to inject a little bit of sophistication into the local pallet, so expect foods with spinach instead of lettuce, olive oil instead of mayonnaise, and cheese that isn't American or cheddar. I have a had sandwich and a strawberry smoothie and both were very good. I plan to drop by tomorrow morning for a coffee, but I don't expect I'll be disappointed. It's 12:30p on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and there's roughly 15 - 20 people in the building and on the patio. I think this is a great addition to Shawano's downtown if you're looking for a spot to meet, work, or relax. read more

1/11/15 (Outside temp 25°) Large open space was quite cold and noise level was higher than optimal for goal of warm, welcoming atmosphere. Suggest textile wall hangings and strong, quiet space heaters. Uber large 16oz cup was not comfortable to hold by its slim handle and beverage tended to cool off rapidly - not best for coffee/tea service. Nice array of pastries and sandwiches. Not much emphasis on cold beverages and smoothies - understandable given current weather, but don't overlook them. Staff/servers were GREAT: helpful and friendly. Background music was a little too loud and modern for my age 68 ears; mellow jazz would be more enjoyable, but that's just my opinion. read more

Have stopped several times for coffee over the past two weeks while visiting in town. Today, I asked to taste the Sumatran which is a very good coffee at this location. It was luke warm. I was told that it was brewed about 2 and 1/2 hours prior. Apparently all the coffees were brewed about that time and were luke warm. Instead of offering to brew a fresh pot, I was told maybe in a half hour when they were not so busy. There certainly were not many people in the place. Really, serving luke warm coffee for $2.25? Bought my husband his latte and left. read more

I adore Glas coffee house. The coffee is outstanding. The location is beautiful and scenic. You can enjoy your suburb drink and fresh made food on a patio overlooking the river or in the 2 story shop that hosts local art talents. They have a free library to pick up a new book or donate your old ones! They have open mic nights for everyone to sing and enjoy. But hands downs the best thing about this business are Tracy and Sadie, these barista's are top tier. Always kind and pleasant they always have a smile in their face and will go above and beyond To ensure you have an amazing experience and want to go back again and again. There have been others where customer services was not only not a priority but not even on their radar but they will have a customer for life as long as these two amazing ladies are there to start my day. I had to onion soup and 1/2 Turkey Sandwich. The soup was terrible no onions definitely not homemade no melted cheese which is why I order onion soup. The Turkey sandwich had no Mayo the don't have Mayo in the house they use olive oil! Very disappointing. The space was beautiful! read more

This was are First time in, but it will not be our last. We enjoyed the great patio as in Wisconsin you have to take advantage of a beautiful warm day. We had the house blend coffee, a breakfast sandwich and a dunker all of which were very delicious. The shop was clean bright and nicely decorated. Glas is a refreshing contemporary coffee shop in rural Wisconsin. The coffee is quality but a little pricey. $3.00 for a laté.

In town for work. Went twice. Breakfast: coffee and oatmeal, very good. Real oatmeal, not the processed kind with lots of sugar. Came back for lunch: all was good except big miss on the service. The person at the counter took my order but never placed it. I asked after 20 minutes how much longer might be as I was running out of time - he responded what did you order ... his associate in kitchen overheard and said he would make right away and did. Really like this coffee shop. Good Espresso drinks! But in the wintertime this place is freezing!!! 80% of the people who where drinking their coffee at the shop were wearing their coats / jackets. I've been here once before, the coffee was pretty good the first time, this time it tasted like the shot was either burnt or sat out too long before adding it to the milk. The coffee tasted awful but I felt as though i had to drink it because it cost me $5. They also had "fresh" donuts from a bakery down the road... if by "fresh" you mean left in the fridge overnight... sure, then it was fresh. Not only did I receive a cold donut but it was twice the price as what I would have paid if I had gone down to the local bakery. I wouldn't have bought the donut had I seen the price on it prior to paying for it. Needless to say don't charge prices like Starbucks or other major chains if you can't backup with the same quality of product. My wife likes the tea, but I will most likely never stop here again. read more

When I'm visiting Shawano I come here to grab some internet and a coffee. The location, facility, decor and cleanliness is great. It sits right on the bank of the channel facing the Wolf River. There is a nice patio complete with fire pit and the internet speed is amazing. I just wish the demeanor of the staff was as reliable. Four visits this past summer had me scratching my head wondering why such a lovely space would have such surly employees. No smiles, no welcome and sorry I even asked a question about the lattes. HOWEVER I just returned this Dec. to meet Tracey who not only had a big smile, welcoming attitude and great customer service, but she worked some magic to get me a tasty breakfast sandwich well past the breakfast cut-off time. Kudos to Glas for getting the right person behind the counter and realizing that a favorable customer experience is much more than just a beautiful building. read more
