There is free parking available in parking lots across from entrances on South and Lovell streets. The museum wasn't busy when we were there, which was nice as we were able to leisurely wander the galleries. It's not a huge museum, but I loved the Kyungmi Shin: A Story to Finding Us exhibit (through May 12, 2024). The artworks were stunning and I loved trying to find hidden images in each. The other main exhibit was American Realism: Visions of America, 1900-1950, which didn't resonate with me personally as much, but it was still interesting to see. The permanent collection downstairs was nice - I especially liked the Tiffany lamps and jewelry. There is a Chihuly sculpture hanging in the entryway, which is really cool to see. The gift shop is nicely curated with lots of great books, gifts, and more. Nate got a cute little cat shaped ceramic chopstick rest!

I went with a decent size group and each one of us interpreted the painting that we had chosen a little differently. The instructor was our "guide" but not a strict coach which allowed all of us to use our creativity and make it our own. I enjoyed that the $35 price comes with all the essentials needed AND you get to take home your art. **This location also partners with a Yoga class. It's a shared space with multiple uses** One downfall I will say about this is, there are NO signs for telling you where Happy Our Art is. It was dark and rainy when we went and were only able to find the place because one of the ladies going the event had already arrived. We were guided by "Look for the sign that says Unwinding". I would certainly do this again! The class was fun, the instructor was friendly, and the space was perfect for a medium sized group.

The art pieces are hanging with different designs for maybe the next piece you make. The website gives a calendar of the different pieces so you can know ahead of time. (Perfect for people like me that can choose ahead of time and go if they are doing something that I find cool.) Again, as mentioned, the staff was very helpful and responded quickly to email and any questions we had before our work event. The only concern I have is the location. It is really hard to find. Go on Main Street. Turn onto 9th Street and off 9th Street turn left onto Holiday Terrace. Look for Unwindings sign and it is in the basement of Unwindings. Overall: I will give them 4 stars. The cost is a little high but it is a fun event and could be good for date night or work events. The location is hard to find but now that I know. Next time I go, I won't get lost!

But I recently started touring other schools and I've now realized below the bar western has become. To start: the math and science departments are both terrible. Organic has such a high fail rate it's been suggested...by Wmu staffers...that I take it at the neighboring community college just to be able to pass it, at a cheaper rate no less. The TA's for the math classes offered at WMU also suggest taking calculus classes elsewhere as the classes aren't designed to help the average student learn adequately enough to pass. Secondly, one of my biggest digressions with this university is what they have done to the nature preserve Asylum Lake. Since buying it, they now ticket people for parking there without a valid university parking pass, yet refuse to put any upkeep into the preserve. Fallen trees on paths, overgrown paths that are still advertised as paths is unacceptable and despicable. I've been running there for five years and this is the first year I've experienced these issues. The reason I give this university three stars and not just one is due to the amazing staff at park view and their outstanding engineering program. No complaints there. The teachers are helpful, in class and out with assisting you and aiding you in learning the material and being competent in the field. For this reason I haven't yet transferred. All in all, if western would spend money in the right places instead of insisting on new dining halls and endless useless fountains, this review would be 5 stars.

There are so many options for study abroad, and the school makes it so easy for students to fit it into their 4 year plan. The SIP (Senior Independent research Project) and Comps (Comprehensive exams) made senior year quite difficult. But I still had a great 4 years!

Unlike most of the small liberal arts schools in Michigan, K is very worldly and diverse, and offers great opportunities for art and culture to students that would not be available at other small schools, except possibly Oberlin and the prestigious colleges on the East Coast.
