Something isn't right. Still internalizing about this clinic, but something just isn't right. As a former ophthalmic surgical industry executive and global trainer, been involved in tens of thousands of surgical procedures and a faculty member in around 100 surgical courses; lived ophthalmology for 30 years. My prospective is probably a little different than average. Glaucoma is a small sub-specialty within ophthalmology who hold some of their own separate meeting at national ophthalmic meetings so there are not a whole lot of specialists in this area. But, knowing what I know now........... go to another clinic. It appears all they do is diagnostic tests and prescribe eye drops. Most Optometric or Ophthalmic offices can do the same thing? Why even bother? Personally, do not tolerate glaucoma eye drops as they blur my vision to the point, I'm not comfortable driving so I am not a good candidate for that treatment. Told this clinic several times, so what do they do? Prescribe a different drop that still has the same side effect. Finally figured out this clinic is nothing but a money and time sinkhole and if you want any other treatment other than drops......... Keep looking. Even then, you can most likely just see about any clinic and they will do the same without you needing to go into a clinic every month. They overschedule: (looked at my calendar and had been to this clinic 8 times in the last 12 months.) When I finally cornered the OD (Patel) asking what the treatment plan was, she obviously had no plan. She said "they monitored patients until they get worse." OK, so you then need to go to another clinic!!?? Then why bother with this clinic? Very poor response. read more

I will not return to this office. I've been here 4 times and had the same negative experience every time. The technicians and doctors are rushed and come across as rude. The entire visit felt like a business transaction focused on seeing as many patients as possible rather than providing quality care. The doctor offered very little feedback and hurriedly answered the specific questions I asked, ending with "Do you have any other questions?" while already halfway out the door. I spent about 20 minutes in the front waiting area, 3 minutes with the tech staff, 15 minutes again in the back waiting area, and only about 4 minutes with the doctor. The visit cost me $175 out of pocket, plus whatever my insurance covered, and I left feeling that neither the staff nor the doctor had my best interests in mind. read more

If you're getting prescription refills here you better start the process of calling it in at least a week in advance. I suffered further permanent eye nerve damage due to not being able to get a refill in time despite trying over a week before I ran out. I have logged several incidents when it took over a week as well as incidents that took a little less than a week requiring me to call daily. I gave up on my last attempt, forcing me to go to a doctor somewhere else, yet again. Not only is it nerve racking, it's also expensive. Let alone the less care received due to going to more than one doctor. And they all contradict each other about practices. As if getting further permanent nerve damage isn't bad enough, the hassle of being pitted between the pharmacy and gcot's voicemail adds insult to the injury. Calling the pharmacy only to have them ask me to call gcot because they weren't having any success and gcot denying getting a request etc. I essentially had to get them both on the line at the same time to argue it out. "We haven't heard from them ". "No they haven't called". It makes you feel like a referee or moderator that is powerless. On one incident I even voiced concern to gcot that I had been calling since Monday and it was already Thursday and I was worried of being out of drops all weekend only to get smart answers (and no answers) in return. And I was forced to spend the weekend without vision preserving eye drops. One time I got so desperate I had to plan on going to the emergency room hoping I could get a refill there if I didn't get any results soon. Luckily they came through at the last minute. It's a waste of time to post this since I'll have vision loss for the rest of my life but people need to be aware. This has been going on for years. And during covid the voicemail box was overfilled and I couldn't get a hold of anyone or even leave a message. I had to call another doctor somewhere else. One time they made me an appointment and on the day of the appointment they called me when I was 5 minutes away to tell me there was no appointment because the lady that made the appointment was fired and made it like it was my fault for making an appt with a bad employee yet I was 10 minutes late one time and they canceled. Glaucoma Consultants of Texas Grapevine the rudest front desk person ever! I made this appointment October 14 for Jan 10th! They called on Friday and left a message saying I needed to give them my insurance card or pay $395 before my appointment on Tuesday! It was too late to call on Friday when I got the message so called as soon as they opened on Monday and gave them my insurance card information and asked if there was anything else they needed and she said no we will see you tomorrow! I left in plenty of time this morning but alas an accident and it delayed me so I was 5min late including waiting for a client who was leaving the office and was trying to get out of parking lot and blocked it for some time, no biggie. I go in the front desk person never looked at me and said sign in I will call you in a minute. I did, I sat down and she immediately called me back up, asked for insurance card and drivers license I handed them over. She said you never filled out paperwork and you are now 9 min late! I said no one gave me paperwork she said they emailed you! I asked where they sent it and she said she couldn't tell me. All the while she never looked in my direction. She stated that I have to fill out paperwork before being seen and I was late already I said I am sorry I realize I was late due to an accident and I would gladly fill out paperwork. She said okay looked in a drawer, sighed and then turned back to her computer and a few minutes later said they are printing. Then realized she had no paper in the machine so then she huffed and went and got paper and put it in and printed it out. I started filling out and she called me back up and told me that I was not going to be able to be seen but I could reschedule and there would be a deposit of $100. I asked for my cards back and said I would be looking elsewhere and left! By the way she did look at me when she gave me my cards back...lol. I came home looked in all my emails nothing! looked in spam folders...nothing! Then I looked them up online and saw the reviews and their 1 1/2 star rating! Sounds like I got the better end of the deal today! Home safe and sound! WOW I really don't know why I didn't check them out, but I know better! read more

Go somewhere else! I have had 3 appointments there. Each time I waited 45 min to an hour to be seen. The first time I set my appointment I was actually thankful I asked how long it took because the first appointment will take 2 hours, not kidding. And they don't think to tell you this, like it won't affect your work day or something. But honestly I was willing to put that aside until I was having some eye problems after the drops they gave me. I was given drops for both eyes and I told the Dr at my first follow up that one eye was really itching. She said since it was just one eye and not two, it was probably an environmental allergen of some kind and not the drops, however it didn't start until I started the drops. The itching got worse until my eye at the lash line was scabbing, swollen and red. I called to ask if I could be seen because I wanted to have it checked for infection. They said I couldn't make an appointment and that I had to talk to a tech first. I had already called the tech with no answer and it was Friday and I didn't want to get into the weekend without possibly being seen. I called back and the front desk girl was very rude to me as I had already called and she said she would not make me an appointment because that "their policy" that the tech would have to tell them if it was necessary. I asked if I was a current patient and I wanted to be seen why I couldn't just make an appointment because I wanted the Dr to actually see my eye and not guess over the phone. She then insisted that's what how they did it there and argued with me about the fact that I wasnt just allowed to make an appointment, which seems absolutely silly to me. So the she offered to get me in touch with the tech right then. After she talked to the tech, the tech got on the phone and said my issue wasn't an emergency and I would just have to wait until she spoke to the Dr because it sounded like an allergic reaction to the drops, even though I told her that I had previously brought it up to the Dr and she didn't think it was due to the drops. I then said my eye seems infected and I don't know how she can diagnose me without seeing it. And she again said, well that's "our policy" and since I'm just "uncomfortable" I would have to wait until they decided if I needed an appointment. Never mind that I am a contact lens wearer and work in an environment where I can't wear anything on my face (my glasses) and need to make sure I can wear my contacts so an eye infection that's "uncomfortable" actually affects my work. She didn't care at all. I told her to take me off their schedule and she just said "ok goodbye!" Their staff is horribly rude, not helpful and seem to have a "gatekeeper" type way about them. I'm sure if the Dr actually heard how I described my eye from me she would've thought I should be seen. But sadly she probably will never hear about me. I suppose I could've gone to another Dr to see if my eye was infected but then how do I know if I should continue the use the drops or not or if I need alternate methods, which is important to my eye health since I have glaucoma. I wanted the Dr who gave me the drops and knows if I can or can't use drops that affect my long term vision to see if this was infection caused by the drops and what to I should do. That seemed reasonable to me, but apparently only me. read more

I suppose service/treatment is good enough. However, they are chronic 'over-bookers' - every time I've been there (4 or 5 now), I have waited AT LEAST 25 minutes to be called back. That just begins the waiting as they have back waiting rooms between various stages of your exam. This same delay process takes place for either of the doctors involved. read more

I was referred to this establishment by another physician.  Believe me when I say the wait time is nothing I have ever experienced before, waited 2 hours till the whole thing was done. The Dr that saw me couldn't care less about my questions, she actually left and the tech in the room took over! I'm sorry if I'm being charged and my insurance is being charged why am I left with a tech to answer my questions. They hooked me up to tests I already had done but they insisted.  Some of the patients I spoke with in the second waiting area told me this is how it always is.  The techs were rude and didn't care to hear what I wanted to say.  Won't be going back.    I didn't even get to see an actual MD. I asked about the results of my tests and was told the Dr who can read them is not in today. I was appalled by this, how dare you have people do tests that you can't read and make them come back a second time to charge my insurance a second time just for results.  And as for the testing, I was asked to perform tests that I told them I can not perform and yet they still insisted. One girl even said "we can't chit chat much because we have to move you along " when I interrupt to ask something. read more

The Doctors are nice and efficient. However, their staff are rude and unprofessional. If you are 10 minutes late, you get yelled at and they may refuse to see you. Last appointment, they forgot I was there and I waited 45 minutes. I was the second patient to arrive and about 12th to be seen. I reminded them I was still waiting, but no apology from anyone there. They don't understand my insurance and make me pay up front. I'm really fed up with these people. read more

I've been a patient here since 2013, and I actually rather like this place. Honestly, I'm baffled by the remarks of some of these reviews. Regarding wait times: um .. yeah. Be prepared to be there awhile. Up till now, I've not given it much thought as I always take my work laptop with me and still get a lot done. Regarding the Doctors: Both Dr. Smythe and Dr. Patel have seen me at one time or another. They have been very patient with me and answered most or all of my questions. I can tell they get a bit antsy if I get a bit talkative, but I've never experienced either rudely shutting me down. The time I have with either has always been an enjoyable experience. Regarding the staff: ok, so granted, I've run into a few that have a very much I-know-better-than-you mentality. Seriously people ... I've been doing this 7 years now. If I say something's off, believe me: Something's off!!! It's very frustrating, and in one case led to OBVIOUSLY skewed results! Fortunately, staff like this are the exception, NOT the rule here. Most of the time the techs, nurses, front desk admins (even the social media lady I ran into some time back), are polite, attentive, informative where applicable, and accommodating to my needs. My very first appointment I had a migraine and I mentioned that the lights were hurting me (I get headaches a few times a month). Ever since then the lights are dimmed in the appointment rooms I'm led to. I'm not sure if this is the norm for all patients or if they made a note that day about me. Either way, I love it, and as long as it's not a burden to them I'm not gonna stop 'em. As for the ladies at the front desk: they are mostly polite (some on rare occasions seem to be having a bad day), answer what questions they can, and generally don't talk down to me. If for some reason I need to reschedule or move things around, they do what they can to accommodate my requests. Don't be shy about asking what tests you will be having and what the cost may be. While they can't give you exact numbers on cost (insurance companies are notorious for charging you more later which is out of their control), they will give you a breakdown of tests and costs based on what information they have available. Bonus: They have snacks, soft drinks, bottled water, and copious amounts of chocolate in the waiting room. Although last time I was there the coffee maker wasn't ready; disappointing, but they had other caffeine drinks so I grabbed one and moved on. Also, they play HGTV in the waiting rooms and beautiful, calming music in their appointment rooms. So there you have it. The opinions and observations of a 7-year patient.
