I have gone to Aqua Aerobics classes a few times in this pool early in the year, there are two instructors, one is really good and the other is really bad. It is an absolute joke! They never ever answer the phone, and yet when you go into the gym there are multiple staff at the reception. If you email them, they will take over a month to respond. If you ask one of the receptionist for anything (the most basic of requests) they haven't a clue and direct you to call the number for Westwood, to which you will NEVER get an answer. The gym itself is nice and all that, but I actually miss Flyefit now and regret paying the amount Ive paid on a membership with them due to the terrible customer service. Also just something to watch out for, the day you visit the gym with an interest of joining, you will be shown around by a staff member who has all the time in the world for you and will dazzle you with all of the perks etc of joining Westwood, but don't be fooled by this ! I wouldn't even mind that it's an extra €100 for "full access" (so that's over €350 now) but it's not "full access". You are BANNED from using the pool side gym which is air conditioned and forced to use the small "performance gym" for most of the time you aren't in lectures or meetings. As such I can only comment on the performance gym which is: small, very hot (to the point I have nearly thrown up from training before, not due to exhaustion or over training, but purely from the heat), and lacking in good equipment. One example is there are only 2 rowing machines for students to use in the entire facility since we cannot access the pool side gym. One of which for a long time had a broken foot strap which was "fixed" with a shoe lace, and the other which had a broken monitor so you hadn't a clue of your split time or strokes per minute. The resistance of the machines also was almost certainly broken as it felt significantly lighter at full resistance than any other university gym I've visited before in my undergraduate degree. On top of all that, you are forced to bring a towel (something that just means either paying UCD more money for washing that towel if you live on campus if you go to the gym every day or paying UCD more money to get the towel from reception, either way you are effectively paying UCD per gym trip on top of the €350 you have to pay to be allowed this privilege), supposedly for "hygiene" even though you're meant to use the disposable paper roll and antibacterial spray to clean equipment so not sure what the exact expected use is for. Plus you cannot give any feedback on this. Go to any staff member and they will either pretend like it's perfectly fair that on top of the tens of thousands in fees, this forced gym membership, and the cost to actually use the gym because of this ridiculous rule about towels that is unique to UCD for a shit service, or they will blame an "external company" and feign ignorance regarding any complaints procedure to make you go away. All in all, waste of money, awful place for students and the lack of capacity internally for feedback is shocking. Serious change needed and if I was in government, I'd be wanting to know where UCD is putting the money they are getting for student facilities because it's definitely not going towards students.

Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

I need to update this review with major news!…read more After a hard training, I usually go as far as the shower and don't even take the time to dry my hair before I go home. This time I felt like pushing my boundaries, wearing my bikini in public, and going to the spa. 1* For the spa: It's called spa but it's basically a huge swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jaccuzzi, and tropical showers - meaning different water temperature. The place is warm - not too warm ! - and clean. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to hygiene and this place has my stamp of approval. 1* For the sauna: Dry heat as you would expect. The interior is made of wood and the heat place is made of stones. There are 3 different levels and - of course - as the heat goes up the highest seats are warmer. It's not too hot so you can have a good sweat. Don't stay too long though and do not wear jewelry - you will get burnt. 1* For the showers: I love to alternate sauna / medium heat shower to cold / steam room. Some people like to take a cold shower right away but I don't appreciate the extreme change in temperature. I go for medium heat shower and possibly cold after that, it has to be step by step. 1* For the steam room: What a great sensation to be in a steam room! The heat and humidity is no overwhelming and that's a plus. You can't stay very long - as per usual - but you can still handle a good moment. Also there is an ambiance music played in the room to help fully relax. This place is a treat ! You eliminate the bad toxines in your body, you work on your breathing system, and you relax all at once. I haven't tried the swimming poor nor the jaccuzzi but that should happen very soon. 1* For the hair dryer: OMG Those hair dryers are so amazing it only take a few minutes to get my hair completely dry. And my hair is long to my waist. And not easily cooperative when it comes to drying! I need to take a picture of how everything is set up, but in short you can find 4/5 hair dryers and 1 hair straightener along a long mirror. You have space to put your brush or other hair/make-up products and get ready. Even when it's busy girls always make space for one another. Very friendly changing room ! 1* For the free trial: I asked for a few trial tickets for my boyfriend. They couldn't give any because this gets sent from the headquarter. At first I thought it was a bummer but then I remembered that a couple of months ago I received free trial tickets by post and a 5 day pass as well ! Should I remove a star ? It's true there should be more flexibility on that aspect but on the other hand they send a lot of incentives by post. I leave this star for now :D 1* For the beauty centre: Today I noticed a new poster in the entrance promoting a new beauty centre. Opening soon facilities for waxing, semi-permanent make-up, manicure, and pedicure. There was something else but I don't remember... Aqua aerobics classes are 6 euro and the general swimming times are 5 euro, with various offers for other classes. The showers and changing rooms are basic but they're clean and warm and the staff are very nice. A great local resource.

The good: * Changing area (cabins) has been fully rebuilt * Staff is great, they let children play and have fun (not like in Fantasia where my 16 year old bother had been asked to leave the small six people jacuzzi (how stupid is that?) * They have slides open every 45 minutes or so (during weekends only) * Very warm showers, almost like Japanese baths * There's sauna * Toddler's pull area * The price €7 per adult and kids under 3 years are for free then it's €4 * Plenty of lockers that are at the pull area, so if you need anything to grab, it's right there (just have your own padlock) * Underground car park (€1 token, unlimited stay) * Vending machines with swimming gear * Spectator area that is accessible without paying for the entrance The bad: * Slides are open only during weekend This is how good it is. Pull is clean, kids and parents are all friendly.

Also if you're coming along for a private swim try to come after the lessons are over because although there is a lane for private swimming it is often full up of other children and mums and dads so no lane swimming is possible at that time. The sauna and steamroom are ok but again can be quite busy and full of people waiting for the children to leave. But on a day when you go with no lessons its quite a nice pool and much better than the old dark pongy pool that used to be the Ballymun swimming pool by the old shopping center. The changing room is all unisex and smells quite badly whenever I'm there and the toilets need cleaning more regularly.

I love it! It's my Gym for about 2 years now!…read more I wish I would be less lazy and go there more than 3 times a week The staff is always there to help! Not really using the swimming facilities- I should, hopefully when the weather will be a little bit warmer Classes are great- I hate spinning class, but I heard it's really good- I don't cycle at all. Zumba is great, Pilates, Yoga! Weights on the ground floor - packed on Monday to Wednesday evenings (6-8 pm) Thursday Friday better - weekends it depends. All good- most of the equipment is working. You can ask staff to show you how to use it. There is basketball-football court upstairs on the 2d floor - you can reserve it for the kid's party or football fun game - ask reception for the info! You can get your chart ( info.desk on the ground floor)- measure yourself (weight, height, etc.) And you can set your goal and go ahead- with the trainer or by yourself!
