The changing rooms are brilliant because they are all little individual cubicles; this is particularly good when you have children with you. Another good point for children with this pool is the fact that there is a smaller paddling pool that is very shallow; this means that children have a safer place to swim but also it means that there are no children getting in your way when you're doing lengths in a free swim in the larger pool. I have gone to Aqua Aerobics classes a few times in this pool early in the year, there are two instructors, one is really good and the other is really bad. But sure you can give it ago anyway, any exercise is good exercise right?

Well its the place I freqeunty probably the most and I'm a big fan of Carlisle. Its a great gym, always busy, with big changing rooms which are kept clean, with staff always available and ready to help. With the pool in the middle (no under 16's allowed) to divide the main hall up a huge range of Carido machines; treadmills,bikes, elliptical and machines which I use but don't know the name of. Also plenty of weights gear too. Theres also a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi in the pool area. As well as this theres classes, personal, trainers, a small café area, that doesn't have a café but has coffee machines and snacks. And theres a barbers, beauty salon,spa and hairdressers.As as result its very busy, but off peak its normally fine and the place is so well stocked you'll always get a machine. At the moment they're offering membership at €295 for 18 months, take that Westwood.

However, there are few issues. First I'll say what's GOOD about Carlisle. It's massive and it has more cardio and weight machines than any other gym I've ever visited. It offers a full range of fitness and well-being services: a swimming pool, sauna and steam room, yoga and spinning classes, a supplement store, sandwich bar and lounge, spa treatments and hair styling for both men and women. Its prices are the most affordable on the market. Annual membership for one person is about €235, waaay below what other less equipped clubs are offering. Which basically explains my first problem: Carlisle is full of scangers.....hard-faced, foul-mouthed, macho-swaggering, tattooed, Fred Perry-wearing SCANGERS. You might think I'm a bit of a snob, but until you've witnessed a knife fight in a changing room (I kid you not) or listened to their bovine banter reverberating through the showers, you might want to hold that criticism. The knife incident aside, mostly it's just annoying and lowers the tone somewhat, but that's what happens when prices are this low. Haha...I AM a snob :P. The other point I wanted to raise is about the staff, specifically the male staff, discounting one or two. Their attitude can be apathetic, cold and abrasive; they have a smarmy cliquishness about them, much like high school jocks and aren't very approachable. I also don't appreciate their obvious resentment of people who train late. I often go at 9pm and leave at 10pm closing, simply to avoid the rush hour. They stomp around the place banging weights down on racks as if to say "get the hell out already!" which I don't appreciate. However, these are only a specific few. The last thing is a more recent issue. The new spinning classes are held in the middle of the gym floor and are obnoxiously loud. Saturday morning training is almost unbearable now thanks to the overwhelming cacophony of blaring dance music and Nazi-like yelling. Sometimes it's so loud I can't even hear my iPod. I've just learned to go at different times to try and avoid it, but it's still really annoying and inconsiderate. Those gripes aside, you won't find facilities like this for such good value! The National Aquatic Centre contains the only public 50-meter swimming pool in Dublin, and is only…read moreone of three 50-meter pools in the country (at the time of writing the only others are the University of Limerick and Westwood Clontarf, which is members-only... UCD is still in production). It was initially opened in 2003 but closed after only 18 months to have the roof fixed, which was completed in 2005. The main pool comes with a moveable floor so they can shorten the pool to a 25-meter pool with a two separate pools, one for diving. The complex also includes a kids' pool (Aquazone Waterpark) with slides and an on-site gym and cafe. There is room for about 2,500 spectators as well in an impressive viewing gallery. If I was to describe the quality of the pool when extended to the full 50-meters and when it's not too busy? Abso-feckin-unbelievable (that's a word... right?!). If you've never swum in a 50-meter pool you should do it immediately! I unfortunately live a fair bit away so only get to the pool once every few months and for a pool-based triathlon each year (Fingal Sprint, held in May), but it's well worth the trip and I've never been disappointed! I would STRONGLY recommend however to phone the centre before you go, because a LOT of clubs and competitions use this pool and also it's not always extended to the full 50-meters; try and go at off-peak times with the full distance available, and you're bound to come out smiling!

My niece and nephew…read morewere up for the country for the weekend, so decided this would be a good place to check out. I had a peak into the competition pool area and it is an impressive facility. However, the kids were here for the Aquazone. I was pleasantly surprised by the Aquazone, it wouldn't compare to water parks on the continent, but my Irish standards it does pretty well. The changing rooms and pool areas are all very clean. The changing area is communal with lots of cubicals, so makes it easier when you have kids with you. The main attractions for younger kids are a wave pool, lazy river and a pirate ship with a few small slides. Then for the slightly bigger and braver kids there are three flumes and a "flow rider" (a large stream of water you can surf or bodyboard on, great fun). The three flumes are very good, each one it quite different, so nice bit of variety. My niece loved the flumes, running up to me after going on the Dark Hole flume "that was TERRIFYING........... I'm going again!", I thought the entrance fee was about right; Adult €14, child €12 (3 & under free) and family €46 (2 adult & 2 child). You can stay as long as you want, but the ticket is single entry. It is much cheaper at off-peak times, however, a lot of the attraction will not be operating.

Not really using the swimming facilities- I should, hopefully when the weather will be a little bit warmer Classes are great- I hate spinning class, but I heard it's really good- I don't cycle at all. Zumba is great, Pilates, Yoga! Weights on the ground floor - packed on Monday to Wednesday evenings (6-8 pm) Thursday Friday better - weekends it depends. All good- most of the equipment is working. You can ask staff to show you how to use it. There is basketball-football court upstairs on the 2d floor - you can reserve it for the kid's party or football fun game - ask reception for the info! You can get your chart ( info.desk on the ground floor)- measure yourself (weight, height, etc.) And you can set your goal and go ahead- with the trainer or by yourself! It is an absolute joke! They never ever answer the phone, and yet when you go into the gym there are multiple staff at the reception. If you email them, they will take over a month to respond. If you ask one of the receptionist for anything (the most basic of requests) they haven't a clue and direct you to call the number for Westwood, to which you will NEVER get an answer. The gym itself is nice and all that, but I actually miss Flyefit now and regret paying the amount Ive paid on a membership with them due to the terrible customer service. Also just something to watch out for, the day you visit the gym with an interest of joining, you will be shown around by a staff member who has all the time in the world for you and will dazzle you with all of the perks etc of joining Westwood, but don't be fooled by this !
